So... Anyone ever grow a pineapple?

I'm kinda jealous of you southerners....I've still got 2~ish feet of snow on the ground yet.

Haven't seen seen my lawn since October 11th and probably won't see it until April at the earliest.

BLOOMS in Jan? Where do you live Flareedah??

I inherited a lot of azaleas. They had overgrown and fountained over, rooting and growing a whole new set of plants. They're sprinkled throughout the landscape now.

They're in bloom now.

I decided I wanted to try to root one. Why not. There was a long branch off another plant that I took advantage of. I scraped a bit of bark off, pinned the branch into a pot set in place with the bare wood against the soil. That was I left it for months.

Central specifically. Winter is the best time to garden here.

bloomin' beautiful. and i think little fata's adorable! what kind of spider is that? never seen one like that around here and they're super-cute! i can just imagine it swearing it's wee spider gob off and spinning a web--charlotte-like--only it'd spell C.U.N.T :D

Yea for all but the most sun loving and hardy stuff I imagine it would be.

If I went to FL IDK if I would garden or fish more.

Update on the new back bed. Realistically it's only been a couple months so it's not like it's going to go through some massive transformation in this short of time. However things are coming along. The golden rain tree (bastard tree) has shed its seed pods so I have those and their little sprouts all over the place. Thankfully they are an easy pull and flick - I leave them to decompose - but they still suck. Bit by bit. I could devote an entire post to the evils of that damn bastard tree.

But that's not what this post is about.

So....

The dwarf variegated ginger.

The triostar.

And that prince of orange whatever philodendron.

Ignore the pointy little golden rain tree starts. The clover stuff annoys me but at least it is good for the soil. And it has pretty pink flowers when it blooms.

If I walked out one day and saw that in a web I would leave it. Just cuz you would have to. It'd be like some kind of message. :D

She is a spiny orb weaver. The girls have the red points - the boys only have black ones. Her grandmother or great grandmother appeared a few seasons ago. They are beneficials in that they eat the mosquitoes and moths and even help keep the mites that can get on the podacarpus at bay.

That's the rub with Florida gardening - the balance between hardy and invasive. Hot and wet versus dryer and cooler. Plus many people that think they can garden down here like it is done up north. This is the subtropics. It's a different set of rules.

Loving your garden pics! All I can do now is look at YouTube videos of gardens and sead catalogs and plan my garden for the spring, I'm in zone 5 so it will be after mother's day before the last frost is over, I'm completely changing the landscape around the front of my house and putting in a stone or brick edgeing, and then plant my herb garden, tomatos, lettuce spinach, garlic and green onions. And about a dozen pots for flowers and some ferns, I cant wait!...:cattail:

Thank you. :rose:

This should not be happening. This is a very very early caladium sprout - two of them. They should not be appearing for another two months. But then we've been having weather far more like April than February.

Nice. Thanks to Youtube I'm a self-taught gardener too. I started growing flowers at first but quickly realized that I can grow fruits and veggies. Though I doubt I can grow tropical fruits (I live in a quite cold state) using a grow tent as mentioned in this article I managed to grow lettuce, tomatoes, garlic, onions. Though it's not enough to be self-sustainable I'm glad to eat the food which I don't doubt.

this thread is a joy

it's like a peaceful time-out from the rest of the thread.
