So, who's on Fetlife?

Can't speak for anyone else, because I'm OUT. I don't give a rat's ass who knows I'm a sadist and a perv.

On the other hand, what REALLY puzzles me is all the people who go on and on about their privacy, who then have facebook or myspace profiles under their real names, using the same email addresses they use for porn and kink sites, posting up face pictures left right and sideways, AND then friending all their kink buds and 'nilla family and co-workers and everyone. :rolleyes:

Hellooooo, anyone friending me had bloody well better be ready to be asked by curious 'nillas "Why would you have someone like that pervert Geoff in your friends list?" :eek:

I can't begin to tell you how many kinksters have outed their very vanilla side including real names and phone numbers by friending me on facebook and myspace. :rolleyes:

I don't honestly know what others think about this. Many of the folks with whom I connect there have limited or no photos of themselves in their profiles but that's hardly typical. I've seen some amazingly explicit photos in Fetlife profiles, which I find remarkable. But who am I to complain? I get to perv quite a lot over there as a result.
 
I'm on it, I like the site a lot. Over there I'm litstwisted, not the best nick on the planet, but I did want my lit friends to be able to find me.

As for me, I'm pretty darn close to not caring anymore who knows about my predilictions. I'm just about completely out and much happier for it. I know that's not possibe for everyone, but it's possible for me, and it's great. So I post photos on FL to share with friends and to feed my vanity, jut like on any other sites (this one, [fucking]facebook, etc.).

I think that probably the reason why people who are more secritive here feel more comfortable posting photos there is because of the interface. FL is so much more like facebook, that I think people just sort of automatically treating it the same way. Even though it's possible for anyone (family, boss, media) to sign up, the fact that someone has to sign up before they can see anything might add some small feeling of security. It's hard to tell.

I'm just glad I'm out.

It's like the story of this (famous within the scene) guy, I don't remember his name, who was a big wig in the US Gov't, the army or the FBI or something like that, who was also really involved with Black Rose in DC. Some reporter found out and outed the guy, and so he went to his boss and said, look, I understand if you'll want me to resign now that my extra curricular activities have been exposed. His boss said that he didn't give a shit what he does on his own time, he's valuable to the operation, and so he's not resigning and he's not being fired, and that's that.

Nice story :) Sort of a BDSM fairytale.
 
My general rule on it is "Don't ask. If you do, I'm gonna answer and you might not like it." And when they do ask, and don't like it, I remind them of what I said.

I have one very good friend that Does Not Approve. The rest are generally ambivalent. Said disapproving friend does not disapprove to the point where he won't associate with me, he just feels mildly uncomfortable. And, oddly enough, the lack of approval is on the poly stuff, not the BDSM. That bothers him, but not nearly as much as the poly side of our dynamic.

My attitude is that I am neither out nor in, and it doesn't matter. I'm out int he sense that try to hide it, but I'm not out in the sense that I advertise it. How I fuck is nobody's business but mine, and those whom I choose to share it with. But if someone asks, and I don't feel the asking is inappropriate a la work environment, I don't mind talking about it.

And, as an aside, I would consider a co-worker asking me as inappropriate even if it were just dealing with plain old vanilla fucking. My work and my sex life are distinct things that do not mix. Hell, my work and my social life in general do not mix.

It's not a fairytale but it is true. His name was Jack McGeorge and at the time the story broke, he was a UN Weapons Inspector in Iraq.

Regarding the photos - I don't care if i'm "outed." No one really talks about sex at my work but if there were rumors about me being a kinky slut I would say "and?" but that is becuase I am a big fat nobody. And i can't imagine the uni I work for caring enough to fire a kninky secretary, when the past two presidents of the college have cause such huge scandal and expense LOL

Yeah, I know it's true :p I just couldn't remember his name! Thanks for reminding me :) When I say it's like a fairy tale, I mean that it makes me think of a story that older BDSM folks tell to the TNG folks like a fable. At least that's how it was told to me.
