Soccer World Cup

Gosh, I haven't even tried it myself! I must buy lots of bars and give it a go *nom nom nom*.
:)

That van Persie header was truly beautiful!

As for rugby, I think I have a thread somewhere in which I explain to some of the gurrlzzzz the appeal of a game full of muscular men who frequently go down together in a scrum, hookers, an odd-shaped ball ...

I caught the Colombia - Greece match yesterday. The Colombians were really just playing with poor Greece! That final goal was hilarious, when they kicked the ball between a defender's legs, then someone back-pedaled it, and then they kicked it between another defender's legs and into the back of the net. The Greeks played like each of them were carrying the country's national debt on their shoulders.

Ooops, I just saw the England - Italy score. Better get in consolatory breakfast foodstuffs, LOL.

You really must try it! So delish!

And what constitutes a "sorry your team lost" breakfast? ;)

Ooops! I bought Italian food for lunch.

LOL, it was only when I came away from the shop that I realised. We wanted to slob out a bit today, so instead of doing the roast English lunch, I bought some pasta bakes from the supermarket.

I didn't see the match, but apparently England were constantly chasing the ball and outplayed from the start, is that right?
:rose: English fans.

The Azzurri beat England.

England 1
Italy 2

Didier Drogba was the key for the African victory.

Côte d'Ivoire 2
Japan 1

Aw, screw this wimpy brain-damaged 'futbol' crap. When is the footy (Australian Rules Football) championship? Now, THAT's a field game! Futbol... ha. Bounce balls off one's skull -- oh my yes, that's a swell idea. [/me shakes head - no concussions here]

What do you mean australian rules? That's just no rules rugby.

I'd say that was wrong, England put on a good show and created as many if not more chances than the Italians. The difference was that the Italians were better at putting them away. Most people here don't expect England to get past the group stage. We still have a few prima donnas to put out to pasture but I thought last night's performance was encouraging.

Let's live in hope! although I feared the worst, given that the pundits were pinning their hopes on Buffon being injured rather than on the England team being in good form. :)

I understand that England play Uruguay real soon.
I wonder what the chances are?

Uraguay will be keen to put that defeat behind them so my guess is we'll see a far better team than came out against Costa Rica. I only hope that neither side comes out playing for a draw, thinking that they can always win the final game. that would be boring.

The Swiss upset Ecuador and Argentina makes difficult work of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Switzerland 2
Ecuador 1

France 3
Honduras 0

Argentina 2
Bosnia-Herzegovina 1

The Fella has an Italian friend whom he very rarely is able to get together with. He hadn't heard from him for months, then the other night, 30 seconds before the final whistle - he gets a text! :D

Ghana-U.S. is a very even matchup between two teams with very different qualities. The U.S. will need a disciplined and collective performance and must not get isolated one-on-one defensively. They need to impose their cadence/tempo similar to what they did in the friendly against Nigeria on June 7. Additionally, they've got to be aggressive in attack and balance when pressing.

Perhaps...

I'm the only non-football fan out here who plays football very well. My friends had tricked me into betting on Netherlands while they bet on Espanal(Spain?).

After Espanal got a beat-down, they tried too chicken out but had my way finally. The few grands of holy cash would be enough to land me a Google Nexus 7 this weekend:D

If the bet was that substantial, your friends aren't very good fans themselves. The Dutch are nobody's easy money.

We ALL were non-football fans :D and they thought that Espana, being the last FWC Champs would have a greater chance of steamrolling the Netherlands.

USA! USA! :D

And I love that a 21-year-old sub came off the bench and scored! Yeah, Brooks!

Hey guys!

Just want to ask a question to the Hardcore football fans out here.

Which team(s) would you wager upon to win this FWC 2014? Are the scenarios a lot different from the previous WC?

Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, are all good bets. The South American teams are expected to have a bit of an advantage this year. France wouldn't be too surprising. Spain either, if they can put that disasterous first loss behind them.
