With me I generally find it really varies. I have a history of having horrifically bad periods and pains when I first got it and all through my teens, now that I'm in my early 20s it's lessened noticeably (although some months are worse than the others)...

I have a very high sex-drive and am almost always up for it, so why should some blood stop me from having fun? I had a friend who dated a guy that would always make a big deal over doing anything during that time which we both found distasteful (okay fine if it's not for you, but don't be an ass about it), it's messier but it only happens once a month and if you think about the amount of other things you can come into contact with during sex (sweat, saliva, hair, skin, genital fluids, fecal bits) so what different is a period besides being messier? It'll wash off in the shower anyway I mentioned this to my bf when we started dating just as a passing comment and he told me a few months later that what I said actually changed his perspective on it more (gross, but bearable), we like sex better when I'm not bleeding, but it's still great during too. Anyway, point is, menstruation won't stop us from our pleasure (I mean shit, he still goes down on me during, as well! What a guy!)

A slightly different story...

So this post is not confusing, I don't have sex on my period. I'll explain later.

The few days before and after my period I tend to be very, very horny. Usually at my horniest then. I don't know why, but I'm hot as.

Also, I don't know if this is because I'm actually hornier because of my period, or just frustrated at being unable to have sex with him, but a lot of our best evenings have been when I have been on my period, so we have spent hours on end masturbating for each other, or he will just play with my breasts for ages, or he gets a loooooong lubey handjob. Ok, time to explain why I don't fuck on my period. Firstly, it's not because my boyfriend is an asshole. He has never been at all negative about my period.
My problem is that in my teens, I tried taking the minipill, the one you take everyday. I was bleeding, on a few days off a few days, completely random, for a total of six months. I was told by my doctor to hang on cos it usually stops within three months, sometimes it takes longer. So during these six months the sex was a bit hit and miss, sometimes we would be ok, and other times he would have to tell me halfway through that I had started bleeding. As a teenager I found this incredibly humiliating, having made him and his sheets messy, and knowing what the stereotypical teenage guy reaction to period is - I didn't know that he was in fact far more mature than most guys his age, I assumed he would react badly and panicked. But I was torn between not letting him have sex with me, and the danger I might bleed.
I'm still with that guy. He has always been great about it. I'm not hung up about my period anymore. But I've never brought up having sex on my period because it reminds me of how humilated I was, and I think he doesn't bring it up because he remembers how I felt about it at the time.

Anyway, I felt like sharing because it's just a slightly different story. I say good on you to all those people who are fucking on her period!

I have never had sex while in the middle of my period. I have had it at the beginning/tail end when the bleeding is not heavy. I have on occation, used a toy to get myself off during, as I am horny as hell (heightened during my period)

When I had periods every month (which I no longer do because of BC) the only good part about them was a very, very high increase in the sex drive like so many women here! About a week before my period and the first four days or so of my period (when the flow was heavy and medium) I was very, very horny. Interesting topic. I've noticed for years that my libido goes into hyperdrive when my period starts. I used to wonder if it was the constant moisture.

Someone has probably already noted this, but if you look at a hormone chart for women, testosterone is rock-bottom just before our period, then starts a big rise within hours of initial menstruation.

For me, I am always weepy emotional exactly 7 days before my period. This coincides with plummeting hormones, including testosterone.

I haven't had a period in nearly eight years. Maybe two days a year I have the tiniest bit of spotting, not even enough to warrant a panty liner. . . it's literally the greatest invention to affect my life. I love it more than my iphone, and that's saying a LOT.

Eeeek Mirena IUD KILLED my sex drive!!!

Sorry this is so long and off-topic but I'm really pissed that my life was f***ked up by Mirena.

I can't take birth control pills. Last time I tried my blood pressure skyrocketed, I had constant headaches and I gained 10 lbs in one month. The doc thought it was my imagination until they examined me.

I went on the Paraguard IUD (copper). I did bleed more but I loved that there were no hormones and it lasts 10 years. 2 years ago I tried the Mirena. It's twice as expensive and lasts only 5 years but the doc said that there was just a tiny bit of hormones to decrease my period.

About 6 months later I started noticing a lot of irritability, gaining weight and decreasing sex drive but the doc's office kept saying that the hormones were too minor to cause problems.

Every 6 months the topic would come up for me and I started doing more research. Earlier this year I finally found a few good forums with women having the exact problems I was.

I love how doctors deny there's a problem but one docs office admits that none of the female ob-gyns will use Mirena. The Canadian Mirena FAQ listed irritability, weight gain, acne, depression and decreased sex drive in their pamphlet until recently.

There's also an independent website that tracks medical device and pharmaceutical complaints from physicians to the FDA. The website does not include consumer complaints and reviewing the statistics, Mirena has a much higher than expected complication rate for 99% depression, weight gain, etc.

Anyway, I know that there are thousands of women who are happy with Mirena, but it does release a daily dose of hormones that some women may be sensitive too. I had Mirena removed 6 months ago and I'm just starting to feel better but my hormones are still messed up and I have not had a period for almost 2 years.
