Sphere of the Planes: A D&Der's fantasy swap.

Rydia

IC: "You see Sarinah, what we have here is the typical example of the PC doing better then he was supposed to. This is evident by the dragon eats you comment which is a sign that either we are currently fighting a dragon which we are not, or that we found the mother load early. Oh a minor note if we find the mother load while fighting a dragon the code word is a giant steps on you."

Sarinah laughed until her sides hurt at Joe's comment which by looking at Clayton who was going an interesting shade of red while trying to kill Wes with glares was completely true.

"I can see that. CLayton does look a touch....upset doesnt he?"

Laughing Sarinah patted Claytons knee. "I'm sure you will think of something suitably diabolical to make us or more specifically Wes pay later on. For now, I am very interested in what is down that well."

Clayton's nostrals flared as Joe explained things to Sarinah, he felt like he just might be able to breath a breath weapon on him, he felt so upset... That is, until Sarinah touched his knee, after that, all he could think about was how soft and warm her hands would feel around his... Clayton shook his head of the sudden line of though he was going down, and returned his focus on the game, just in time to hear her express her interest in what was down the well.

"Oh, well, like I said, it extends well beyond any of your partry's vision, and the walls are smooth and sheer, all the way down, as far as you can see. Also, you hear that rhythmic rumbling from far below. What do you do?"

Penny too saw the preturbed look in Clayton's eye. She started thinking up a new character concept as Clayton was sure to try and get them all killed now that Wes had discovered something he shouldn't have. "Nice going Wes, now your dragon food and we get the loot." Penny smiled. "Melika will say something pretty at the funeral." She patted Wes on the shoulder and let her hand linger just a bit. Realizing what she was doing she quickly turned away, grabbed her can and took a big swig of soda. Finishing, she stood and headed for the kitchen. "Anyone need a refill? Clayton, can I get you something for the pain?" Looking to Joe, "You know we're going to pay for this, right? I see failed spot checks in our future."

Wes:
"Oh no, I have the sneaky suspision that Clay might just let this one slide, I think he's waaaaay too busy mooning over Sarinah here." Wes whispered to Penny conspiratorially, having noticed his buddy's glazed over look a moment ago. He was oblivious to Penny's hand lingering on his shoulder as he stuffed his face with pizza.

"Mmmph!" He mumbled in responce to her offer to get people more soda, lifting his mammoth plastic red wings 'mug.'

Clayton:

Clayton was staring at Sarinah as he waited for the party to decide what to do, until Penny broke him out of his 'trance.' "Wha? Oh, uh... Yeah, just a glass of water for me, please." He said, instinctively knowing that if he went for that fourth monster, it would be game over man, critical core melt down, abandon ship, and he didn't want to risk acting like any more of a spaz than he already was around Sarinah.

Joe and Rydia

Joe: "Nah I am good Penny."

Rydia: "So we going down the bottomless well or what?"

Sarinah: "Thanks Penny, Ill just have water as well thanks." She smiled at Penny then said to Wes, "You know, as good as pizza is, and trust me," points to herself, "huge fan of pizza right here, there....more interesting things in life" this was said with a glance at Penny, "and, also....pizza doesnt have legs, so it wont run away" This was said with laughter as she watched Wes stuff more pizza in his mouth.

Allyria: "Right. Well I'm going down that well right now." Reaching into her pack Allyria pulls out the rope attaches it to the grappling hook and secures it to the top lip of well. She also places the to pitons on her scabbard belt and gripping the rope stands on the top of the well preparing to lower herself down. "Now, this rope is about 60 feet long...roughly. I hope its long enough, if not we will have to climb the rest of the way. Get your stuff out and ready and I'll shout out when I hit bottom. Or, we can all go at once if we use our own ropes...but I would recommend at least one of us doesnt do that incase we need rope later yes?" With that Allyria dropped out of sight down the well.

Wes:

"No kidding, I could really go for some chinese myself actually, oh, or mexican! Wait... Huh? Legs?" Again, Wes was completely oblivious to the subtle hints reguarding Penny, stuffing more pizza in his mouth. "Woah there, lassie." Wes called out, snapping back into character, catching Sarinah, and by proxy, her character, Allyria, off guard. "Why dinna we tie all our ropes t'getter, that wey, we'll be sure t' reach th bottom, nay matter how deep it mey be?" Rando, the gnomed interjected, fishing his rope out of his back pack.

Penny collected two hands worth of cups and headed for the kitchen, smiling at Sarinah's pizza comments. As she stood at the sink Penny allowed herself a little wistful sigh over her maybe not so subtle crush. At least Clayton and Sarinah seemed to be hitting it off. 'Poor Joe might be feeling left out.' Penny thought. She'd always liked Joe, but he was like a brother to her. She'd known him for as long as he had known Clayton. 'Maybe I've just never thought about him in that way...' She thought, looking into the other room where she could just see Joe... The overflowing cup spilling onto her hand brought Penny back to reality. After wiping off her hands and the glass, Penny came back in and passed out the filled glasses one by one around the table as Sarinah explained that her character was going down the well. "I suppose Melika should go down too and check for traps."

Melika looked down the well warily. She hated going underground. Underground was for dwarves and goblins. But, there might be treasure that the townsfolk had thrown in for luck. She watched Allyria disappear into the darkness of the well. Scowling she began her decent saying, "Rydia, I charge you by whatever god you worship to pull me up immediately if I scream." Melika continued to grumble about how only moles and dwarves are stupid enough to live underground as the darkness of the well swallowed her too.

Rydia

IC: "I thought you knew I worshiped you as a goddess. Now get your ass down there and see if it is safe." (Bluff 5, I actually rolled this...) Rydia smiled knowing her bluff would give her confidence to spring traps the hard way.

Clayton:

"Oookay, nice try Wes, but it looks like the party has ignored Rando's suggestion and gone down the well, each on their own length of rope, leaving you up top. Of course, no one's rope reached bottom, at a mere 60' of length, and as the three of you that went down, without heeding the wise gnomes advice, dangle from the ends of your ropes, you hear the low rhythmic rumbling as more of a reverberating booming now. You three need to make climb checks to see if you can scale down the rest of the way without the aid of your ropes, please. Wes, does Rando follow after the party?"

Wes:

"Yes, but. Oh, hey, thanks Penny. Mt. Dew, mmm, my favorite! But Rando is going to start casting Felton's Feather Fall but hold it so that he can fire it off as a free action, next round. Then, I'll use my move action to start climbing down."

Penny rolled and then frowned at her dice. "Melika gets a 13 in total. Not the best roll. You got any of that feather fall to share Rando?" She looked at Wes smiling hopefully. Picking up her pencil, Penny lightly chewed on the end in anticipation of the others' rolls. Turning to Clayton she asked, "We're 60 feet down, can I see anything yet with my low light vision?"

Melika reached the end of her rope, still a bit worried and confused by Rydia's comments about worshiping her, and looked at Allyria hanging next to her. "Crap." She said both to Allyria and herself. She peered into the darkness below her, straining to see if she could pick out anything in the seemingly infinite blackness.

Wes:

"Sure Lassie, just ye stay put, and Ol Rando Shmook will bail ye out!" Wes said, in character, his scottish brogue starting to falter.

Clayton:

"With a 13, Melika knows better than to let go of her rope and try to climb down the rest of the way by hand, and as she strains to see anything below, she thinks she catches the glimmer of what appears to be polished onyx... Not far from that, she also see's a dim milky white, pulsating light."

Allyria: Once again she thought to herself her need to prove herself landed her in the shit. "Crap is right Melika." Now what were they going to do? She could not see jack down the well.

Sarinah: *rolls dice* Yeah like I said guys still don't know how this 'dice' thing works so...." She points at Clayton, "Can you tell me what that means please?" Sarinah indicates the 15 she has rolled. "To climb or not to climb?"

Clayton:

Clayton had caught Sarinah's result the moment she had rolled it, and ducked behind his DM's screen to 'secretly' adjust the rolls difficulty by two. "A fifteen, yeah that makes it, but just barely." He said, giving Wes AND Joe a warning look, as they had played the game long enough to know that anything short of a 17 should fail the climb.

Sarinah: "Really?!" Bestowing a brilliant smile on Clayton, she thought about her next move.

Allyria: "Right. I am climbing down after we sort out how we are going to get everyone else down....hey Rando! can you pass me your rope? Melika could tie it to the bottom of mine and climb down and Rydia could follow, maybe? What do you think?"

Penny saw the glare Clayton gave Joe and Wes and she smiled knowingly with them, but said nothing about the slight numerical adjustment in the climb difficulty. "So, can we assume we all get down to the bottom of the well? This suspense is getting to me. What's down there?" She asked Clayton.

Wes:

"Aye, th suspense, it is killing us captain!" Wes chimed in, trying to restore his scottish brogue. "By the way, Rando grabs ahold of Melika on his way down and triggers Felton's Feather Fall as he lets go of his rope, that should give us a fairly cushioned drop!"

Clayton:

"Alright, weather through skill or magic, the party makes it to the bottom of the well, only to find themselves in the middle of a black dragon's lair. The dragon is in, but sleeping, its snores were the low rumbling you have been hearing this whole time. The kingdoms stolen treasure is here as well, scattered and strewn about the lair, while the massive beast sleeps atop a hill of gold coin and precious gems, not more than 100' from where the party stands. In fact, you find yourselves standing dead center of a wide circle formed by the dragons body, as its head rests on its tail. One of its wickedly taloned hands rest atop a large sphere of crystal, which pulses with a soft white light, seemingly comming from within its core. The dragon snorts once, a puff of sulfurous smoke bathing the lot of you, before it returns to its rhythmic snoring."

Allyria: After her jaw elevates itself back up from the floor she whispers "Holy hell. We have to get out of here! There is no way we can take on this beast! Not with just us we would never win. Anyone noticed its so big its encircling us?" Oddly enough her sword started to throb in the same beat as the white crystal and so did her dagger and gauntlets and shield! ALmost imperciptable to start with she could feel them throbbing against her skin.

Sarinah: "Clayton. You are an evil evil man!Big giant dragon...thanks ever so...." Nudging him foot with hers in mock chastisement she drank her water and waited to see everyone elses reaction to the giant dragon.

Joe

IC: I left for the restroom while the others continued. It didn't take long for me to go but the toilet was less then cooperative in terms of flushing. I had to head to the garage and and grab the plunger to finish off the floating beast.

...10 minutes later...

"So what I miss? We going down the well?" I quickly put togeather that while I was away Rydia had gone down the well and so did the others.

Wes:

"Ne'er ye fear lassie, good ol RANDO has this wee beastie under control!" Wes called out in his brogue. "Casting a sleep spell on the dragon, B.A.! No resistance due to it already being asleep!" Wes had referenced one of his favorite comic's when he called Clayton B. A.

Clayton:

"Okay there, Brian..." Clayton answered, rolling his eyes over Wes's reference to Knight of the Dinner Table. To this day, he still couldn't see the 'similarities' he had with B. A. from the comic.

Melika waited patiently as Rando floated by and then grabbed her around the waist. Watching the rope slip from her fingers, Melika wondered if they were going to be able to get back up. She had a bad feeling about this whole decent into darkness. Then, feeling the gnome's hands a little low on her waist, Melika fixed Rando with a look that could kill and said, "Watch your hands, short stuff." As they landed with the others in the middle of the curled dragon's body, she was careful to not make any sudden movements and take notice of the dragon's calm breath, indicating that their arrival had not wakened the sleeping beast. Acknowledging that they were in no immediate danger, Melika allowed herself to survey the treasure. She picked out some of the choice pieces in her mind to claim for herself if they got out of here alive. Seeing Allyria losing her calm, Melika attempted to console her. "Don't freak out. We don't have to fight the dragon. We just need to figure out how to get the treasure out and not wake it up." She crept closer to the dragon's snoring head. It's eye was as big as Melika's head. But, there was something alluring about the crystal it held. Turning back to the party and shot them a wicked grin and said, "Then again, we could always just kill the dragon while it's asleep." She began to think how she might be able to severe it's spinal cord with a well placed sword thrust...

Penny looked from Wes to Clayton and back again and asked "So, did that sleep spell really work? Can we kill it? There has to be major experience points for dragon slaying."

Wes:

"Oh, Aye, Lassie, I BE watching my hands... Closely!" Rando retorted, giving Melika a lescivious wink. "An I mey be short in stature, but, weal, they don call me pogo inah me home village fer noothin..."

Clayton:

"Yes, as far as you can tell, the sleep spell works on the dragon. Heh, you can try... Just remember inactive opponents are only worth a quarter of their experience..." Clayton warned.

Joe

IC: I considered waking the dragon. No it wasn't worth the experince given this was a one shot adventure, at least for the moment. "Well what are we doing now?"

Allyria: Sizing up the dragon she looked around at all that treasure...and the pulsating white orb that seemed to be calling her. She wanted it. "Well we going to kill it or run for it? While I would like to be able to slay the dragon, I do not know if we will be able..." Trailing off she stared at pulsating orb...walking towards it she slowly reached out a hand to touch it...
