Star City- The Heroes of Tomorrow OOC

I actually strongly disagree with this. It depends on the version of The Punisher that you choose. The original Frank Castle was a Nam Vet Marine, who became a cop and got his family snuffed, then went on a rampage. He was very two-dimensional and kind of stupid and in the end, rather boring. Then in the 90s, The Punisher got a redo.

This version is a genius anti-terrorist operative who speaks 17 languages and has contacts in every nation in the world. He's a rather complex and shaded individual who has a certain duality that I find intriguing. His motivations are hard to comprehend, he is obviously a psychopath to do what he does, but he also feels conflicted about it. There are moments of tremendous cruelty, but alongside moments of incredible courage and compassion.

He's a good man who has just been fractured right down the center of himself. His family was the only bright point in his life, the saving grace, his one chance at sanity and peace. They were taken from him and...well... Frank Castle died.

The Punisher was born in blood and fire from Frank Castle's grave.
The ghost of Frank Castle wants to rest and rejoin his family, but The Punisher still has work to do...and no matter what they throw at him, or how tired he gets, he still keeps living to do his work...

I just love how you disagree yet only agree in the end. I did say that Punisher is complex, but a wacko. That is basically what you just said, that he is complex, there's a lot going on in that ol' noodle, he is made up out of more than just guns and tactics.

Next!

Had to say it with more words. :p

...I love you.

See, when I say things like that, people call me 'crazy' and 'dangerous'. I guess it depends on the kind of personal charm you have.

It's also about context-- there's a lot of different meanings for "love," The Ancient Greeks had four different words for the stuff and that barely scratched the surface.

There's also something to be said for a respect for mutually agreed-upon boundaries.

I love Vail, for instance, and I love Tears, but each of these loves is a very different animal.

Both of which can, at times, be crazy and dangerous, admittedly.

"DeathsKnight" -- you stoked for the Deadpool movie coming out next year then?

No.

To be frank when I heard that they're making a movie on Deadpool I went like... why? Why? Why in the name of all that is holy would you want to FUCK THIS UP AS WELL???

Just look at what they did with my most favorite character of all times. I mean you don't make a movie named "WOLVERINE" and make him a dumb tourist in JAPAN! For God's sake the man practically lived there for years. They screwed him up a lot of times. Thankfully in Days of future past he was redeemed slightly, but in an action movie with Wolvie kicking ass, you can't go very much wrong with him.

So am I stoked? No

Am I interested to go see it? Yes

Am I looking for the game? Yup

Am I wishing that I could write? With all my heart

But like we know, wishes don't come true.

"The Wolverine" was largely based on a seminal Chris Claremont miniseries with early Frank Miller art. Granted, it was a fairly loose adaptation with a much stronger sci-fi component, but the "tourist in Japan" aspect is valid to an extent.

Did you see the leaked test footage from earlier explorations of "Deadpool" with Reynolds in mocap?

Because I'm not even a huge Deadpool fan and I wept for joy.

"Rich Corinthian Leather."

Also Chass, nothing against your info, nor against you meant when I say the following: I don't care if they based "Wolverine" on Ron Schuckman's one year old daughter's crayon drawings, if they only got the basics right I'd be happy.

For instances:

Logan: "Watashi wa onsha no chichi no tsūka no tame ni mōshiwakearimasen" (I am sorry for the passing of your esteemed father)

Miko: "Watashi wa anata ga seiyō hito no tame ni yoi nihongo o hanasu, arigatō" (I thank you, you speak good Japanese for a Westerner)

Logan: "I had some experience with the language in the past."

Que flashback sequence of Logan living in Japan. Maybe even Mr Jackman saying: "Yeah, a lot of experience to be exact"

I mean it is NOT that hard, even people who now nothing about comics should be able to catch up on that, if not, use Google for Pete's sake

Well. Took longer to post, than anticipated. But...therein lies, 'nother post!

*collapses*

I'll have you guys know...I was going to include my character 'bumping' into Ollie and Felicity, originally as well. Too. But I didn't know their....*EXACT*...location. If it was further underground, or what not. So figured, I'd omit it. To be safe! ;)

"DeathsKnight" -- FOX. I haven't watched a single X-Men, in the theaters since the one with Reynolds(as your boy) and Taylor Kitsch(as mine) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I did see First Class that a friend bought. And hated it.

They have raped, my all time. Fave franchise. For the last time. With everything that is. Going soOOoo right. Within the Marvel Universe of movies. I just can't stand Fox and Sony, hanging onto the Marvel characters, preventing them. From being in ONE continuity. And done 'rightly'. By the fans. (although I actually did like that last Amazing Spider-Man 2 sequel)

That said, I'm indifferent to the new Deadpool movie. I'm scared of Channing Tatum as Remy. Their track record is just, so. MONEY-HUNGRY-FIRST. It doesn't bode well for fans.

But we'll see....

I hear there's going to be an X-Men television show coming out. If Gambit and Rogue are in it, and *HALFWAY* decently represented.....I might have to sell...completely...out. And love it to death! *smirk*

Also updated Profile to include a face to the man in the suit.

Not sure why I didn't think about that, but there it is now

Keep in mind that the X-Men's movie continuity runs differently than 616 or 1610-- it's its own world. Perils of The Multiverse. I got the impression that Logan's amnesia is more complete in the movie-world, rather than swiss-cheesed by Weapon X it was wiped out completely by a bullet to the brain that he then healed from. He may not remember his time in Japan-- or the language.

Still, it was fun to see him mucking about in his second home.

First of all, I cringe at your use of the word "rape." It's too easily tossed around these days, and it's too terrible a thing.

I thought "Amazing Spider-Man 2" was a crushing disappointment after the heights of the first one. Sooooo many plot points crushed into not enough plot so they could spin things off into movies that probably won't get made at this point anyway.

Based on my humble opinion, Fox has now made more good "X-Men" movies than bad ones-- I was mildly entertained by "The Wolverine," and "First Class" and "Days of Future Past" were both epic successes-- especially DOFP --covering the multitude of sins left by "Wolverine: Origins" and "X-Men 3."

"Fantastic Four" has been a rockier road. I found both of the original theatrical "FF" films to be fun and watchable, if not especially well-written or acted (except by Evans and Chiklis). I did, however, get goosebumps from the trailer for the new harder-science reboot, so that's a good sign.

As for corporate money-grubbing-- they're all as bad as each other, even Marvel. Marvel's pissed that they made their bed with this licensing and now they have to sleep in it, and Sony and Fox would be idiotic to not make what money they can when they can make it-- that's why corporations exist, after all, to garner capital. While from a creative standpoint, having a shared world has great possibilities, I can also accept that telling separate stories can also be amazing. Granted, Sony has kind of kicked the spider-story into touch, but eh.

Meanwhile, Marvel mucky-muck Ike Perlmutter is so pissed at Fox that he's made them cancel "Fantastic Four's" comics so Fox doesn't get free advertising. They've killed off Wolvie and Deadpool both to do the same thing to the "X-Men" franchise, and Claremont has been forbidden from creating any further X-Men characters so as to deprive Fox of any new ammunition. He's also notoriously flintskinned when it comes to paying the actors of Marvel movies, and you'll notice that they haven't done anything with Big Hero 6 in 616 in awhile even though their own parent company, Disney, was the one that made the recent animated film.

And don't even get me started on how short-changed Jack Kirby's legacy has been considering how much he's contributed to all of these worlds-- well, except maybe Spider-Man's.

It's all about the money. It always has been.

But I think if they're going to sell their souls in Faustian bargains to make these stories-- they should at least be good stories. So I'll enjoy them. When they're good.

Additionally, the casting of Channing Tatum is kind of hilarious.

I've been saying for like half a decade now that Chan should play Sam Guthrie. When they cast him as Gambit, I nearly exploded.

SO CLOSE AND YET SO FAR YOU GUYS

WRONG MASON-DIXON MUTANT

I would totally buy him as Cannonball.
I will NOT watch two hours of him doing a shitty creole accent
(I'm not a fan of Gambit in the first place)

I'm a pretty big fan of Gambit.

He was the first X-Man I ever successfully roleplayed.

And I think Chan could do okay at this. But I would definitely prefer me some Channonball.

And this.

Unless someone has pinned you down and physically assaulted you in a sexual way, OR has done such deep, emotional damage to you that you will forever carry the scars, please don't use this word.
Being upset about how an IP has been treated is NOT rape.

(And, unless they are rounding people up into camps to be slaughtered wholesale, don't compare anyone to nazis)

Yes and yes.

And, as an additional thought, this understanding of story and medium and the dance they do is key to RPs. Good story ideas are seldom good RP ideas, and vice versa. Why? They simply work in two very different ways.

I ran into this problem with my "Powers of Ten" storyline.

I had massive story ideas, but putting them into a RP format was not the way to go. As amazing as the stuff was that we did with Jack and Donna and Giles the Werewolf King, other less cooperative factors proved detrimental and ultimately fatal to the thread. This would not have happened if I'd just written the story out myself, but I didn't trust myself to keep the momentum going solo.

Exactly. When writing a story on your own, you don't have to worry about keeping characters constantly amused ;)

Or other writers who just want to write a little ball of chaos filled with out-of-character knowledge instead of writing the character concept they originally pitched to you.

Not that I'm bitter.

Oooooh, sorry gal-pals(Miss "ChasNicollette" and Miss "Vailyn"), along with anyone else I...unintentionally may of...brought harm/negativity toward! :(((

I was shooting toward -- concentrating, even -- on the character/comic-property angle. Someone/thing fictitious, for sure. But no less important enough. And just the disrespect. The disservice. And 'protection' not, that the properties -- and thus those that love those creations -- have. Truly. Against the higher ups. That continually just, are "throwing" more characters...in these movies. Without consequence or meaning.

I can certainly understand that movie-verse is separate from comic-cannon continuity. But when they -- FOX -- cannot, even be consistent within their own. Movies? That they created?

Stop seizing these characters.
Stop destroying that which is sacred.
Stop breaking my heart..one can only take so much.

...just because you can. And even because you'll continue to do so...

(Johnny Storm and Sue NOT siblings in this new 'reboot'? Foxxxxx it up s'more!)

Anyway, please accept my apologies once more. I'll be sure not to use...any words so 'lightly'. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. And may everyone have an amazing weekend!

(Johnny Storm and Sue NOT siblings in this new 'reboot'? Foxxxxx it up s'more!)

Adopted siblings are still siblings.

Even a Jotun and an Aesir can be brothers in that circumstance.

And the lily-white teams of that first wave of Lee-Kirby Silver Age superteams could use a little more diversity. Remember when they recast Alicia Masters as a black woman and Kerry Washington owned the role? Same deal.

Anyway, apology accepted, Lachy.

Loved your Bart post.

I'll try to get replies out later on tonight.

These conversations always remind me of the people who complain that the LOTR movies weren't page-for-page the novels.
Page for page.
Of slogging through swamps.
Of eating and complaining about not eating.
Hundreds of pages.
Of nothing.

In fact I had made the mistake of watching the movies and then reading the books. Biggest mistake I ever made...apart from the bi...I mean ex.
