Star Trek: The New Adventures

Name: Ryika Thompson
Race: Genetic altered Orion.
Rank: Not applicable.
Position: Bartender of the Crew Lounge/ assistant Ship's Councillor.
Age: 26
Height: 5’ 2” bare footed. 5' 8" in her footwear of choice.
Weight: 135
Eyes: pale blue
Hair: Black

Ryika was an illegal experiment "created" by an outlaw genetic engineer named Robert Cobb. Robert Cobb had a dream of an Orion woman with higher than animal intellect. He had obtained a pregnant "specimen" and manipulated the child in her mother's womb.

Cobb never found out if he had succeeded or not, because shortly after Ryika's birth he was killed by her mother. It was six months before mother and daughter were found by Star Fleet. Ryika's mother was accidentally killed when she attacked the humans that had found them.

One of the Star fleet officers that found her took her in. Lt. Maria Thompson raised the young girl, Ryika, as she was named in documents found in Cobb's lab. Those documents were what allowed Lt. Thompson to keep Ryika, seeing as she was a genetic aberration she could not be sent back to the Orion people.

In years to come it would bear out that not only had Cobb succeeded, but he had exceeded his own expectations as Ryika was determined to be a genius. She learned several languages and three college degrees by the age of thirteen.

Ryika, genius or not, was however an Orion girl, much to many's dismay. Her tastes in clothing and her mannerisms are considered by some to be down right minkish. She is masterful in the art of the vamp, and her wardrobe is exotic and revealing.

Being that she was genetically altered she wasn't permitted into Star fleet, but she has found a profession that permits her to travel in the employ of the Fleet. She aides the Ship's councillor as the Barkeep of the Crew Lounge, after all, everyone talks to their bartender and one of Ryika's degrees is Psychology.

What position's are still available?

Helm (I already named the helmsman, but that's easily changed), any of the science/research types usually found on starships, Operations Officer, Hazard Team members, aliens, the guys in the red shirts (these will prolly be NPCs), etc....

First of all. Wyld.

You've outdone yourself with this one. (I can't stop staring at her.)

Just. OMG. Seriously.

Second of all...

I may have made a continuity-related boo-boo.

Is it all genetically-altered lifeforms that cannot enter The Fleet? Upon reflection, I remember that dear Julian from DS9 had himself a bit of a genetic restructuring, and that this would have ended his Starfleet career later on.

But on the other hand, interspecies romances would seldom-- if ever --result in viable offspring if genetic engineering weren't involved. I remember reading about the teams of doctors that kept close eyes on Spock when he was a boy, and when Will Riker commented to K'ehleyr that he didn't think Klingons and Humans were compatible, she replied that they "had help." So my character, in order to even live past infancy, would have to have been genetically tweaked.

However, maybe it's just genetically-enhanced lifeforms that are forbidden from The Fleet? Creatures who are beyond baseline normal because of bio-tinkering? Kahlest herself is actually below baseline normal for either Klingon or Betazoid, though she does have the advantage of having both sides combined.

I mean, I can go back and write out the pre-natal genetic alterations in her bio, I just didn't think she was feasible without that sort of background.

O.O

...what should I do?

Hold the complete works of The Bard in front of your bare bosoms and use the distraction provided to get it OK for genetically tweaked life forms to be OK in Starfleet.

(just a suggestion)

:D

It's an order of magnitude thing. Ryika's got herself some of the same mods in the intelligence department as Khan's people. But she's not as smart as they were due to base racial intellect.

Genetic manipulation to make a viable child between two races is okay. Hell any Half human half Vulcan has to have certain modifications.

Oh, and as an aside I found the pic:). I'm nowhere near that good with the computer to tweek a pic like that.

Can we guess who the model is?:)

While I appreciate your interest in keeping the thread as faithful to Star Trek as possible, certain allowances will definitely be made.

I mean, after all, Thor ended up in Smallville, so a bit of genetic variation among the norms in this thread is perfectly fine.

In other words...

Don't worry 'bout it, darlin. Ain't nothin'. Nothin' at all.

But...but...

the book idea!!!!!!

it was a good idea!!!!

(this outta at least get a eye roll outta Chas!)

Yeah, let's use the "book idea".

Never, ever, no matter what, under any circumstances should you beam down to the planet's surface wearing a red shirt.

If anyone watches Star Trek: Phase Two there's a quote from McCoy about "We don't put bulls eyes on their backs anymore."
