i think it's pretty messed up that one of the parents suggested it.

on hte other hand, i can guarantee you that once there, most of hte girls would either be in bikinis' or tying up their shirts to show middriffs anyway. we did it a few years ago when i was in high school, and we always sent the girls out to the side of the road with signs. well, and one particularly pretty guy. but yeah.

you see a cute, sweet girl with a modest bikini top... you're more likely to pull in. i can say that i dont think those little triangles should be worn... but a modest bikini top. people think its' cute.

In what way is it empowering for a 14-year-old girl to show herself in a bikini to an old man who comes to get his car washed?

it's only empowering to the beneficiaries of the money, the school, charity etc. who the carwash is for. Then they'll turn right around and condemn the girl if she comes to their funtions scantily clad :D

Being raised in the 50's and 60's I remember, the old kissing booths at Bazaars where a pretty blonde girl would kiss guys [ white guys ] for a buck apiece, so things haven't changed. Money overrides morality to some; :D :nana: in this country still [ lmao]

Ah, the Classic argument! I was waiting for it. "That's what everyone does."

Doesn't that just make it even worse?????

Much, much worse...

Undecided. I can't make up my mind if it's exploitive or empowering. Let's face it, physical appearance can be a useful tool and most girls realize this long before they're 15. It's wrong and it's shallow but that's the way it always has been.

Empowering? Not at all. Physical appearance is part of who we are, not a mask to hide behind, and not a tool. And yes, mask and tool go together. The more we use our outer selves as objects (tools), the less we show our inner, true selves ot the world. It simply isn't as easy to be you when being someone or something else is more beneficial, or something we believe to be more beneficial. It gives us a comparison in which who we should be proud to be is, in our minds, less than who we want people to see us as.

That jackass at the end fo the bar with a toupe that sits crooked and fake gold rings who claims to be a millionaire (when he makes minimum wage or slightly above, if he works at all) and talks about everything he doesn't know about as though he were an expert; the porn star who... Fuck it, let's just say Houston and get it over with, she's pretty much the most plastic and pathetically fake woman in porn; both of these people are the result of that type of teaching. They're notably extreme results, but still...

As within, so without... and vice versa. If you don't believe that you can sell your service/product/idea on its own merits, but have to rely on appealing to the audience thirst for sex, then that's gonna show - AND, the more you let it show, the more you'll start to believe in it, until one day you have NO self-esteem whatsoever.

They had those even as late as the 60s? I'd somehow gotten the idea that they were older than that.

and you can be damned sure that no one is insisting the guys get down in speedos. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the same people pushing for bikinis, would be appalled merely at all males being shirtless, much less in bathing suits or speedos

If the girls are going to wear bikinis, for sure the guys should take their shirts off. What's sauce for the goose...

I live near a beach town, and whenever I've gone there in the summer, there's any number of young guys with smooth, tanned torsos, skateboarding shirtless through the streets. And with nipple rings, yet. Do you think they're merely taking the air? They've come out there to be seen.

Closing this up

This thread has now been inactive for two weeks, so I wanted to close it out by thanking everyone who participated.

Women opposed young girls flaunting their sexuality for fund raising 17 to 3, men 18 to 3, 85% against.

In the end, the girls were not allowed to do this, not because any great morality stand on the part of the parents or girls, but because I pointed out we could have embarrassed the church the group was loosely tied.

It is fascinating to me that a group of "porn" writers are much more responsible than a group of high school girls or many of their parents. The outcome is what I expected, frankly, as I know the AH'ers to be mostly responsible people, who regard eroticism as their art form, and take it very seriously.

Thanks again.
