What is Sex?

Women often say that men always have sex on the brain or think with their penises. And yet they also complain that some hubbies are so caught up in work that they never take time for Romance. Which introduces another trope. Women may say they don't think about sex all the time; but they will also say that 'sex' for them includes so much more than 'the old in-out". Getting ready for a date, whether or not they are attractive, choosing an outfit, flirting, making eye contact, maybe a little verbal fencing, lots of kissing, the right kind of touching, maybe some teasing, maybe role playing, the more foreplay the better, taking time to enjoy the old in-out. And women are the primary market for Romance novels. And Romance novels are all about all those kinds of...sex. They often are about obsessing about...hooking up. So if women spend a lot of time thinking about all those other things that are 'all part of what makes sex sexy' don't they also 'always have sex on the brain'? It depends on one's definition of sex, right?

I think when people talk about men always having sex on their brain, they're referring to the knee jerk interest in the female body that is not so present in women in the reverse. Women (harking back to our evolutionary nest building qualities) require more context. I feel a little bit educated on this front because a few years ago I experienced some physical events (see my bio) that were accompanied by a 180 degree shift to an interest in stories with a male MC, as opposed to a female one. (I'm female.) And I began paying attention to men's physiques, with pleasure, in places like the T and in church. I think I gained some insight into what it is like to be a man.

Yes, and you can certainly define sex the way you do in your OP, very broadly. But it's interesting to compare the different definitions of sex, one applying more broadly to men, and the other to women.

What's with these dames always wanting you to dress up to the nines for a night on the town? Jeepers creepers, why can't a fella just come home from a long day at the asbestos factory, have a hot steak and a cold whiskey waiting for him, and play hide the bishop with the missus without having to gab about it?

I think more modern research shows that men don't think about sex as frequently as earlier studies showed, and that women think about sex as often as men. The more we peel away social expectations, the more we find that men and women are alike.
Bravo 👏

It’s almost like we are the same species!

Nice to see someone gets it😬

You are changing the meaning of sex in your conversation. Equivocation.

At the start "sex" means intercourse.
Men always have sex on the brain / think with their penis.

But later you redefine sex to mean everything surrounding attraction and romance.
If women think about those things, then women also think about sex all the time.

Here is an example:
Humans need light to live.
Feathers are light.
Therefore humans need feathers to live.

Feels like a rhetorical trick.

Romance = connection, affection, attention, validation
Sex = physical act

They can overlap and do. But they aren't interchangeable.

These gendered sexual proclivities are some of the best arguments in support of homosexuality.

If your intentions are shared intimacy and not procreation, why not seek someone who is more likely to share your sexual appetite?

Well, aside from a predilection to a cis/het normative. 🙄😅

I would quibble that we aren't 'alike' but that we are very much 'tuned to each other' on the biological level. OTOH, 'being human' means 'taking control of our bodies with our minds' and we sure do mess around in our minds with 'what we are supposed to do.' And we have SO many stories about how it is 'better' to we walking around in our minds instead of our bodies.

The quibble is with the statement 'men always have sex on the brain'. Many people insist that sex is not confined to PIV intercourse in order to truly be sex.

Well, I was delighted to have my sensibilities expanded to experience some of what men may experience. (See bio). It's quite different. The differences are exhilarating.
