The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Everyone seems to be in a deep freeze this morning except our friends in FL. Stay warm, watch YouTube on how ancients used to stay warm and be thankful for thermostat šŸ˜‚. View attachment 2583446
It's a mild, sunny morning in the south of England. Perfect for the carol concert ... outside a nearby pub serving mulled wine!

He is able to stand and sit but can’t walk. They literally carried him on and off the stage.

He’s a helluva songwriter and story teller.

Junior and I caught RATM in Raleigh back in summer of '22. Zack had injured a leg early in the tour, but the show must go on. They literally carried him out and propped him up - sitting - and you couldn't tell that anything was wrong - he sounded fine/great.

So yeah, Showman!!!

Dateline: Asbury park

Fun night of drinkin and rockin and rollin. Rolled into town and hit the WonderBar for amry/navy. The staff were great… they normally kick people out at 6 for the 7pm show. But I was wearing my first cav hat and the waiter and bartender recognized it. Bartender was Air Force vet. They let us stay and watch the football game. Two bars came on and did sound check - both good.

Then we moseyed to the Stone Pony. Jesse Malin fuckin brought it. His band is so good. Imagine Americana music with a few dashes of punk rock sensibilities. He was stricken w a rare spinal stroke and can no longer use his legs. He is able to stand and sit but can’t walk. They literally carried him on and off the stage.

He’s a helluva songwriter and story teller.

Met a bunch of lovely people. Drank too much.

Hungover.
Did Bruce show up?

No… I’ve been to the stone pony and other clubs around Asbury park a metric fuck ton of times.

But never a Bruce sighting.

My wife has seen him before and many new Jerseyans have a ā€œBruce sightingā€ story, but I do not. 🫤
I spent a lot of time down the shore. No Bruce stories but spent a few nights at the Stone Pony, I think!

If Miller is the champagne of beers…

And Yorkshire is the champagne of tea…

Is chock full of nuts in a percolator the champagne of coffee??

(Sorry B2… just egging you on!) šŸ˜‚
Who said Miller was the champagne of beers? šŸ˜‚. It’s Guinness.

And nothing from a percolator can be close to being good enough to be the champagne of coffee šŸ™„.

Thanks to you, I caught the second half of the Army/Navy game! I seemed to remember it being around Thanksgiving weekend or week after, thought I missed it, but saw yer post yesterday! Thanks…sadly we lost…but exciting game.

Next year.

SWMBO bought us some tix to a GD Cover band that came down from RDU. It was in what I always thought was a little dive tavern on a backroad in a neighborhood in what the hipsters are calling ā€œMidtownā€ now šŸ™„

Well. The band was pure fire, had the Dead vibe down pat. Lead guy doing Jerry’s parts was on point and even had a replica ā€œTigerā€ guitar (the one famously auctioned off to the owner of the Indy Colts), the crowd was nice mix of old hippies, hipster 30-40 yr olds, some college kids, and the usual burn-outs than flavor any Dead themed show!

It was a balmy 62 and humid last night. Front pushing through and it’s getting down to 19 tonight!🄶. No snow, but windy…I haven’t even seen what the chill factor is going to be but it wont affect me as I’m staying inside.

Everyone hunker down and stay warm. Stay out of the snow and floods out west. Get them critters safe in the barn!
