The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Sold out of wood again. And refilled the wood stand again.

The storm is good for business!

I hope ever in the path is prepared and takes good care and is safe. I don’t mind the snow so much, but the ice is a motherfucker.

Today was really nice, but the wind really picked up in the afternoon when I was moving firewood and the temperature is really dropping. Tomorrow will be very cold.
Be careful

Hello likes to Watch how are you?
Where are my manners? I didn't even ask how you're doing. Prepared for the incoming storm?
Not this 🤬 again. Thank you for choosing a clip that explains what really happens with trees in extreme weather... and debunks the whole Hollywood image of "exploding trees".
As one local (to me) meteorologist said, "If this were an actual thing, Canada would have no trees."... Also, our trees (Midwest) are acclimated to this weather. So when it happens it's often a massive temp drop in a very short timeframe.
As for the pops - it's not just trees. Thought someone was breaking in last night until I remembered it's just the weather. I think we were in the minus 20sF and minus 40sF wind chills at the time.
Sorry - pet peeve... and siblings who fall for every viral piece of BS posted online that they see

Im actually not going to get anymore than a couple inches from the storm but its dangerously cold here..Im doing ok..

Exploding trees and Frost Quakes are a thing..

Do u have a good shortbread recipe.... ?
I'm sure @Greylag has one...
Have you seen the Ted Lasso recipe?
I'm not a cookie or shortbead person, so don't know if this recipe is any good or not. Opinions anyone?
Exploding trees and Frost Quakes are a thing..
They are a thing... just not the way they're being faffed about on social media.
It's the hyperbole of it spread on socials that I don't like. Perverting science for clicks and likes.
I've lived in the Midwest my entire life and have experienced both. Trees with frost breaks are very common. I likely have more than one in my backyard right now. Given the low temps last night, I was expecting one of those frost quake "POPS" and was not disappointed.
But nothing "exploded" and I was never at any "risk".

Edited for grammar

It has been a busy day of prepping for “THE STORM”

I took a half day, took my mother out to get her food and water and alcohol. (She likes her nightly wine or gin and tonic). I made sure her car was filled with gas, not that she will be getting out any time soon.

I made sure she had cat food and cat litter for her two cats.

She lives about 45 minutes north of me so getting to her quickly in a storm, even with 4 wheel drive will be a challenge.

But she is set. And I am set with food, drink, alcohol and cat supplies. I am ready for Sunday.

Be prepared, be safe and have fun.

Oh, and I put Pam spray on the shovel and Pam spray on the sled. I am ready

I am curious when my ice will melt.
For those with experience, if it does snow first and changes to sleet and or freezing rain. Should I shovel the snow off at or before the change over? At 20 degrees or less the whole thing turns solid, right?
If I know that it is going to be snow first than ice I will wait until the storm is over and then shovel. The snow protects the concrete or asphalt from icing.

When I have shoveled and then it ices it is dangerous and takes a lot of salt.

My two cents.

💯 agree!!
How's the mouth? 🦷
Pretty good! They basically take a titanium screw and put it into your jaw. They screwed it in with a small medical grade impact driver!

Did he put a ratchet on it and cinched it down tight!

I was pre-numbed up, and it did hurt once the Novacaine wore off. But I took two Advil and felt great the rest of the day.

I kept mine stocked after working with my boss in the 00's. He was a Russian Jew from Ukraine. He had escaped with his family from Kiev after Chernobyl blew.
We asked in times of war what did he miss most. Toilet paper. Newspaper or leaves where not a good alternative and difficult to dispose of. Since then I always had an extra dozen or two stashed away.
During covid I thought it was funny how people were hoarding. In the end it made tp thin and hard to use economically. I am still a folder. But the new flimsy rolls 3 squares come off more often that 2. I think my significant other is a wader. She uses a lot!
This was TMi. But also quite funny.

Why thank you! We had fun, but had to push the digging of the azalea off till today. Her attention span is only…this much…
Yes, spending time with the wee ones is always a different headspace. Glad you had a good time with her!
Sounds like the perfect pot for your orchid - indoor pot, right? Orchids are hothouse flowers, are they not?

Yes…well, they don’t like our colder winters in the Carolinas, but they can do well outdoors in the summer. We keep them indoors all year though.

This is technically a “bamboo orchid,” so not at all sure if it’s just named that because it kinda looks like one or it’s the real deal. Orchids that I’ve planted before I use a bark mixture, not potting soil as that holds too much moisture. This had me plant it in potting soil. That’s why I question it…
Although it did have two small flower stems, so who knows. Either way, it will remain indoors.

Looks like a job for our Resident Researcher? 😁🙏🏻💃🏽

Eggplant really? I like Pineapple on Pizza but Ive never heard of Eggplant where do you get it?
We have a really good pizza joint right here in town. NJ is deep in the heart of the “pizza belt” and I’d argue we have fabulous pizza.

They put strips of breaded fried eggplant on top of the pizza: it’s yummy.
