The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Here in Ontario Canada it's illegal to trap an animal and relocate it. However I can get a trappers licence trap and kill the animal go figure.
Here it is illegal to relocate squirrels too. NJ when I had that problem I drowned them. Late one summer I was standing out in the street chatting with an older neighbor about whatever a squirrel went bebopping along the fence. I referred to it as the east side highway and said I hadn’t seen a squirrel in a while. He laughed and said they were annoying and his wife had it out for them. I said kill them all. He laughed and said they keep 2traps going and she drowns them in the sail tubs. He washed the sails for members of the local sailing club. I said I was at 275. They were well over 600.
I haven’t found a way to dispatch them without upsetting the neighbors here in va. They have a totally different view of them.
I talk to raccoon. For a while years ago I had one that was so brazen it would come up on the deck with me while I ran the gas grill. Now I just see evidence they’ve been by. Squirrels nor raccoon have figured out how to get in my bird feeder. They shred my pots.

Three or four years ago, we had a mother and baby Cooper’s Hawk, who were doing just that.

Trying at least… To take out squirrels.

But Cooper’s Hawks are too small and especially the young one could not really get them. He was actually kind of funny to see the baby tried to get the squirrels.

Red tails would have no problem, but Cooper’s Hawks are a bit smaller and would feed more on the birds.
Back in the old days when I smoked I’d go outside the building on campus. Lots of old labeled trees green grass…. Rabbits. We sat and watched a red tail hawk get set to drop don on mr rabbit. Rabbit ran darted around the tree like he ran straight through it and froze right there in the grass. Smoked 2 more cigarettes waiting for the hawk to see the rabbit. Didn’t happen. Finally flew off like the rabbit wasn’t even there.

I've watched them for hours, while hunting. It's really funny when they fail. Saw one jumping from branch to branch about 40 feet up. He missed that last branch by just a little. Just hit the ground all embarrassed looking, and ran off.
I’ve popped them with the air soft when they had no idea what hit them. I always think they look confused when they hit the ground.
I felt horrible hitting one with a slingshot one time. Big bubble of blood coming out its head and it couldn’t walk right. Couldn’t find a way to put him out of his misery and just felt like a real jerk. I never saw it again so assumed he became someone’s lunch. Retired the sling shot. When I started out I figured I’d never hit anything with it.

Baking commences this week
I baked bread and cookies today.
Friday valentines did surf n turf. Boat load of scallops and new your strips. And got lucky and found green beans. Her favorite.
Saturday chicken Marsala with Sauvignon blanc so we’d drink hat didn’t make it in the gravy. Tried some new tricks on the mash potatoes that I put them over. Amazing that before mashing add em back to the pan with low heat no lid. Stir some to dehydrate. Then add the bit of cream sour cream salt and pepper, stir. Mash as little as possible and the potato flavor stayed intact.
Rained all the salt off the roads here today.

Who (restaurant) in your area has the best pork rolls and/or Taylor rolls... and what's the difference?
Mmmmm. Pork roll. When I lived in Jersey they had this mysterious thing so hot it turned provolone to liquid. It had broccoli rabe on it too.
The best one I found was at this place called Panzerotti’s.
He also made what he called Panzerotti’s. Pizza dough formed in to a ball bigger than a softball. Like a calzone or Stromboli size. They’d fill it with what ever you wanted. Then deep fry it so the thin crust would crunch. Poke a hole in it and eat gobs of goodness. I visited back in2018 and the place was a wine bar.
I miss the ham cheese spinach mushrooms onions black olives. I miss the one like a cheese steak mushroom onion provolone. Even the one with red pizza sauce init. Would love to find someplace that could make those again.

A regional chain did a version with green onion instead of brussel sprouts. I made my own w/ the brussels b/c I don't like green onions.

This was one of the only places that had "white pizza" for a long time. It's more popular now. Very common is the chicken alfredo pizza.

Tomatoes and I are not friends anymore... so I've been experimenting a bit with other options. I find some just too oily for my tastes... and none is a "replacement" for tasty, tasty tomatoes. 😂
Artichokes.
