OK…here’s the rest of the story!

Grandaddy traded a dood a pistol for this Ludwig drum set. My parents were overjoyed…as you can imagine. So, yes, a six year old, had a 7 piece Ludwig set…mother of pearl to boot…keep that in mind.

So I banged on these things for years, never really learning how to play other than by what I could copy. See, our local indoctrination center deemed you couldn’t learn drums till Junior HS…Grade school I had to settle on the trumpet…my dads choice, not mine…because, you know…he played the trumpet way back when.

So I sort of dropped the horn after a couple of years. Not because I wasn’t good at it, just because sports and surfing and girls started encroaching on practice time. The drums I always circled back to, but they suffered the same attention deficit I gave the trumpet.

When I went off to college, to gain a little knowledge, momma, who can’t stand clutter, asked if she could “donate” my drums to her church who had a praise band. I figured I probably wasn’t going to pick them up, so gave in.

Fast forward many years later, and I take her to church. “My” drums aren’t nowhere in sight? They had some drums, but not my drums. Well, when I finally got serious about music a few years ago, I took some lessons and my guitar teacher was telling me a seven piece Ludwig drum kit in Mother of Pearl is fetching north of $10k nowadays? That explains my missing drums.

I’ve never really got over it. Especially now that my youngest plays the drums!

Lesson learned here boys and girls…never ever ever…sell your musical instruments and guns. Just don’t!

Yes do not sell them. I had formal lessons. My drum set was a snare, 2 tom-toms , a base and a floor tom. I had cymbals, hi-hat, crash and ride. The colors was sparkling champagne. I taught as well as in a couple of bands. I never should have given it up. Who knows, I may buy a set and play for the fun of it.

I was thinking of doing the same abt 5 years ago. I think on Craigslist I found a bunch of barely played kits (all posted by the parents of teens), for not too much money.

Plus when my mom was going really deaf, her ear doc urged her to listen to more music or make more noise…. She started playing the bongos (I kid you not). She really enjoyed it!!

So getting drums may just be good also to stimulate your ear drum!

I have a cheapy one. The other gadget they didn’t have when I was young was the dodad that looks in the wall for ya so you don’t find electricity or water guessing for a stud.

It sounds delicious and I will get some. i know Hershey is standard fare but I have spent days and weeks working in their plants in Hershey, PA. Driving into town the smell is great! My favorite plant was Reeses but I do have a thing for Kisses.

I had heard so much about Hershey chocolate in the decades before I finally travelled to the U.S. When I eventually got to try it I was underwhelmed, to say the least.

Yeah… it’s American chocolate. Not that great really. Esp when compared to European chocolates.

However we do use it on our choc chip cookies. It’s available. That’s about it.

I head up a group at work that does a dive bar tour every few months. the Ivy Inn at Princeton is a fun joint!

My boss came tonight and brought her 90 year-old mother!

It was also Tuesday night trivia, and our team, the Dipshitz were in 21st place! (Out of 35 or so)

My kids took me to a bar trivia contest one night when I was visiting years ago. We lost by 10 or 20 points to a table of 6 because they didn't give me credit for my bad French pronunciation of Nostradamus's real name, which was worth 40 points.


We wuz robbed!!!
