The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Octopuses look so strange and so cuddly when they're sleeping. Unlike the cat currently on my lap, who just looks like someone assembled him incorrectly

I just corrected myself, and my father scolded me about my mistake. It is more like (I don't know for sure) the guitarist appeared on the same stage.
I... don't think Slash ever played in Dire Straits.

Mark Knopfler did arrange 54 guitarists for a charity play along, so I suspect that's where your confusion comes from. Slash was part of that.

Frame for chicken palace complete. Taking a dinner break, the together a pasta with chicken and veggies in a cream sauce and a salad. Having a friend come over to help me wrap the beast in hardware cloth.

Okay, here's a question for the group: Do you like cold fried chicken and ice cream at the same time? My father does; he used to eat plain vanilla ice cream and leftover chicken with a Coke late at night. A bite of bird, a spoon full of IC, and chew. No, I'm not fond of it. Coffee please.

I like cold chicken but not fried. I therefore avoid the fat but smother it with mayo, deluding myself that mayo is a healthier option. I first had ice cream on Coronation day 1953; it was horrible. Ice cream was one of the last things to come off post war sugar rationing in the UK and the ingredients were rubbish for several years more. My first and last coke was the day I joined the army in 1954 (15/16 was old enough then for limited duties.) I didn't like the sweetness- probably another hangover from no sugar in WWII. So if I sat down with your dad for supper one of us might get fatter and the other skinnier.

A menace. His name is Sprocket and he's adorable, but sleeps like he's trying to win an extreme yoga competition. Usually with his butthole pointed straight up in the air.
We used to have a tom cat named Sprocket. He was a charming guy, but he didn't last long because of a urinary blockage.

I'm back home from my daughter's gala. It was the last performance for the Senior girls, and they sobbed or outright bawled through everything they did after intermission.

Yesterday, we visited the famously haunted Bachelor's Grove Cemetary. My youngest has a thing for haunted cemeteries and I've been wanting to see it for a while, so we ganged up on the rest of the group and got our way. Any interest in seeing a few photos? Three to be exact.

This probably borders on blasphemy, but I like cold (room temp) fried chicken better than hot. But not with ice cream. There are many savory/sweet combos I do like, but I can't imagine liking that one.

The local news here did a segment on some supposed social media trend of pickles in Dr Pepper (a soda that's pretty sweet and claims '23 flavors' i.e. flavoring agents). The verdict among tasters in the newsroom was 15 hating it, and 1 lone guy saying he enjoyed it.

Hi everyone. It's been quite a while since I posted. I'm sorry it seems I come back when things are ... not great for me. I'll take a cup of tea if no one minds, and then I need to vent a little.

This morning we found out that Mr. Penn's mother had passed away last night. This is sad, of course, but not unexpected. She was 90, and has had dementia for many years now. We'll miss her, but are glad that she's no longer suffering.

PennGirl -- who is now PennTeenGirl -- has been having a tough time the last few years with anxiety. This year, since January at least, has been a struggle. I have never been so anxious for a school year to end, although it looks like summer school will happen.

Lastly, a friend of mine -- that I met when he commented on a story I wrote -- will die soon. I'll miss him a lot. It's been mostly a long-distance friendship, conducted over email and text, although he did visit us twice (he lives in Canada, and yes, I know how that sounds). However, we became pretty close and as I said, I will miss him.

It's been a day. Thanks for listening.

Hey PL. I send you copious hugs and wishes for wellness and healing.

Big hugs and all the tea and ears you need.

Cool. Arrangements of popular genres for orchestral instruments has become quite a thing. Favorite ambience music around the house these days is the Harp Twins, identical twins who perform classic rock on harps. Playing right now is their arrangement of Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams. It's both pleasantly relaxing and slightly disturbing. Another harp duo, "Harptallica", play Metallica on Celtic harps.

Why am I on the computer at 0530? Damn dog. He's currently asleep on the sofa, but insists that I be up and awake. If he squints open to check on me and I am not sitting upright, it's a bark-fest.

I would love to hear a decent metal version of the Anvil Chorus and Sing, Sing, Sing. Chicago sort of did their version of the second one, but they cut 5 minutes off it.

There is a whole bunch of Beatles stuff done classically.

It's a beautiful morning here as the sun sparkles off the dew in the grass. As I sip on my Earl Grey, I'm watching the rabbits gamboling through the yard while the mother birds are being badgered by the babies to be fed, even though they are as big as their mothers and are capable of feeding themselves.

We're having a pleasant morning heading for the low-mid 90'sF this afternoon. I like being home with my chores and responsibilities, but coming back from green Chicagoland makes it hard to get re-accustomed to the brown-all-around setting here.
