The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

My family has been in America since way back in the early 18th century when it was called the Colonies. That's much longer than Mary's, no offense. My adopted Dad's line arrived in the southern Colonies in the 1680s. From Germany by way of Irland, on his dad's side. Of course, his ancestors wanted to come here. Mine, not so much.

Once upon a time, I read through a story. I found a number of continuity errors, events jumping around in place and time with no indication of flashbacks or rememberances Scenes would span chapter breaks, but then another scene would be introduced before the next break. Breaks seemed to be based on word count rather than content. One scene told how the subjects from a group wandered off into the distant night darkness, but then the story discussed how others in the group were watching and listening to them as if up close.

Events took place with little or no reason. Two people got into the Funky Monkey almost as if they were expected to, even though it should have been very unlikely and with some resistance.

The writer asked what I thought. I responded. The writer acknowledged and agreed.

I re-read the story recently, over a year later. No changes have been made.

This is why I never volunteered to edit.

Good morning all, busy day on schedule today, I volunteer a few hours over at the county Emergency Operations Center, then I've got a meeting with @Campus77 this afternoon, he's in town and we're going to go wander around Amelia island and talk about books.

Coffee's on!!!

@Rustyoznail - don't worry about the lithium, I hear these are all over Australia now:

That's a warrior bug from the movies "Starship Trooper".

I listened to the news today. I have little interest in military battles, as opposed to other history, but hearing an elderly French woman speaking about how her house was the first to be liberated on D-Day and how honoured she was to meet the remaining veterans - only 80, i think, now, brought a tear to my eye. Especially when she mentioned, "Sadly, there are still wars."

Various beacons are being lit round the country tonight to commemorate.

On the subject of WWII invasion plans, if any of you get a chance to see the musical Operation Mincemeat, I highly recommend it. If you know what OM was, it really isn't a spoiler. As a piece of theatre showing what's possible with a cast of five, often changing costume and character multiple times in one song, it's outstanding.

Doc thinks I may have asthma. I do seem better after using an inhaler for the last few days. Touch wood it'll continue.

My mail chickens arrived safe, healthy, and feisty.
I'll have to find a way to upload a picture, most of them are what we call teacup patches or electrocuted vultures- but I'm glad I could help my friend out.

Join the club. My new doc thinks I'm the same. Problem is, I had a bad reaction to the cheap inhaler. 🤢
The new one seems to be working, but I'll give it a month.

Lunchtime tea and coffee, anyone?

Mail-order chickens, oh my.

At first I thought you said, male chickens, LOL! Are your mail chickens roosters or hens?

... he promptly gives me Covid.

Yikes! Good luck.

We left our cabin-in-the-woods yesterday, a day earlier than planned. We were both tired, grumpy, and snarking at each other, and in no mood whatsoever to socialize with anybody, especially the 200 invaders who were expected to start streaming into the resort this evening. Today I was so tired after breakfast and morning chores that I set my head down around noon with the intent of closing my eyes for the usual 30-45 minute catnap... and woke up at 3 o'clock. Did I mention I was tired?

The three of us (me, her, and the dog) are going out for ice cream in two minutes. Nice evening for it, and maybe some mood adjustment will result.

Bartender! Garcon! A stiff tea pour faveur! Finally got my older brother upstate into my house so I can take care of him and he promptly gives me Covid.
Ye skipping hah.
Good luck with that

I'm expecting to come down with something from my exposure to the airports coming and going from Chicago, but so far, so good. I should be out of the woods by Monday.

Talk about irony...

I'm allergic to Prednisone, the steroid most commonly prescribed for severe allergic reactions.

Anyway, my colonoscopy went well and nothing was found. But the prep gets harder to do the older I get.

The teapot is hot and on the back burner if you want any ...

Thanks Kandy. I feel like an earl grey tea. I must be coming down with something as well...

Good. Hoping for the same here.

I'm due for mine, but the doctor hasn't bugged me about it yet and I'm not going to "volunteer" at this point. Last time around I opted for Cologard, but this time I'm thinking I'll do the real thing. Cologard is recommended every 3 years, and is not as definitive as a sending a camera up there. Colonoscopies are recommended every 10, and that being the case it would be my last colonoscopy.

From what I have read on the various medical sites, full colonoscopies are not recommended past 70-75 years of age due to increased risk of weaker intestinal lining and therefore perforation risk, plus polyps found after 80 are typically slow growers and generally not a problem past your sell-by date. I guess.

Okay, this is to show that what TxRad put in place here continues. I'm here sitting at the card table by the far wall of this C. Shop/R. Room, just clear of the leak in the ceiling tile, diligently and digitally working on my laptop. One story has just been finished, and another will be in a few days. The napkin dispenser is full. All is as it should be.

I love the smell of coffee in the morning and Tx's old Mr. Coffee is an example of aroma therapy at its finest. The smell of coffee in the morning brings back memories of camping in my folks camper

Taking a break, having a French Vanilla straight from the French Press, having brewed my brownish delight with just heated freshly ground beans! Sup, friends, and frienamies?

Dinner tonight was on the patio: cedar planked salmon and roasted potatoes. I decided to forego the planned veggie, and I'm not regretting it.

I haven't decided yet if I came down with something, or if it's just allergies. Symptoms come and symptoms go.
