The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Speaking of wonderful wives - no, not in that way, D - with our son in town and enthusiastically willing to look after the dog, C and I are going out on a date this evening. We'll be staying at a nice hotel with high-end casual dining, with the intent of being fun and flirty. A real date, dressing up and all.

It'll be the first one in well over a year, maybe even two years, all because of the dog's neediness. We're being more kind than usual to each other this morning, so we're already setting the mood. This is good.

Oh - no computers. Phones 'cause we have to, but no distractions. Like you guys. ;)

Well yesterday and last night's bout of storms beat the living crap out of me. But, hey, I'm alive and grabbing a cup of tea today. Not only grabbing but enjoying.
It's all good.
Be safe and well everyone. Peace, love and happiness one and all.

Good for you. Have a great time.

Well... it may not happen after all. I'm telling y'all this to get it off my chest versus letting her have it with both barrels, on the off chance she recovers quickly.

C has a history of sabotaging dates by doing things she normally doesn't do hours before the event. For a quick example, a while back she tried a new-to-her hair color the afternoon of a NYE date - it was an unmitigated disaster, so bad she was crying to cut it all off. [Click, click, delete. Avoided saying something especially scurrilous. We'll save that for another day.]

This morning, she fixed herself a cup of an herbal tea she had no experience with. As breakfast was on the table, she pushed away from her food to splay out on the sofa, grasping her stomach in pain. Now she's back in bed, when her morning "plans" were to bathe and shampoo in prep for going out. It doesn't come off as deliberate - why would somebody make themselves sick like this? - but it's happened often enough to seem to be an unconscious avoidance mechanism.

I'll tie 'er to the fender if I have to, we're going to the hotel. Cancellation deadline was yesterday, and it wasn't cheap.

Fuck. Just fuck.

I am sorry. Good luck.

I decided to take a break and watch a movie but I'm stuck - Matt Helm? Derek Flint? I can't decide! Back to work I guess...

I hope C is feeling better and the plan is forging ahead, but who takes a computer on a date? 🤔

Unless... Add a HDMI cable to plug into the hotel's TV and some movies on the hard drive... Nah.

I made myself some Earl Grey and put the teapot on the back burner. Hopefully H_P will drop in for a cuppa today. I'll be over in the corner rereading "On Basilisk Station" if anyone wants to chat ...

Hope your trip away happens and goes well, MrP!

I'm rather worried by all this leaving teapots on burners. They aren't meant for direct heat!

Great book/series. Love Honor.

I'm one of the few Americans who know the difference between a tea pot and a tea kettle. I even have a tea cozy at the ready!
Yep, have both depending on the situation. My daughter one Christmas gave me a neat cast iron Teapot. I also have a teabloom but rarely use it.

Okay, here's a fun one. We live in a small city, sort of a micro urban center for a rural area. There is a dense downtown, several blocks square.

My "commute" to the grocery store is roughly two miles, traversing two sides of downtown. Well, on the way to the store tonight I was stopped by a buck and three does. We've seen one or two does around town, including a doe and two fawns in the schoolyard behind our house. So having a buck around is a given. But seeing the buck and his harem in the middle of town? Noteworthy.

This is where it turns weird. On the way back from the grocery store, at the same intersection where I saw the deer, I was stopped well in advance, noticing a large dog. I thought it was a large dog. Once I got closer it was clear as heck it was a wolf, following the deer's scent trail. We reportedly have coy-wolves in the area, but this is the first I've heard of full-blown wolves here. I think I need to call the state natural resources department tomorrow.

Interesting. I guess they also have wolves and/or wolf hybrids in parts of the Chicago 'burbs.
