The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Here in my doghouse we have so much to be thankful for - some bittersweet, the VA realizing that I truly am disabled and the benefits kicked in. Some completely awesome - a successful series of books that the public is enjoying. Mrs. Duleigh is making Christmas Eve gift boxes for kids based on The Grinch and Stitch and they've become so popular she's hired a neighbor to help.

For those giving thanks this year, remember to give thanks for the bitter, because without that, you wouldn't realize how sweet the rest is.

Wishing a happy, peaceful and enjoyable Thanksgiving to those south of the 49th.
Oi, some of us Americans are displaced above the 51st! To be fair, I tend to celebrate on any convenient day - there's a family birthday round now so good time to meet the folks. Best wishes to everyone celebrating or having to tolerate today.

Had a peaceful day mostly because of being exhausted and staying in bed or on the sofa, but thanks to the internet in my hand I don't get too lonely. Time to order the turkey for Christmas!

I was just working out a scene that bothered me all day when we left for dinner with my son-in-law's family. Now I'm back. Tony is drumming his fingers on the table and Laura has her chin in her hand. They want words, but I might be too full to write it.

I gave Tony and Laura some words and it's almost time to move on to the next scene. In the course of it all, I came up with the short, loaded line at the end:

I brought Laura a little closer. "You weren't this comfortable last week. What changed?”

“Last week was a balancing act," she said. "I didn’t want to discourage you, but I didn’t want to lead you on too much, either.”

“That was confusing,” I said. “Now?”

“Now I’m not ovulating.”

Maybe that's too open for a second-date conversation, but hey, I like it.

My head is spinning. This has to be a record of some sort. I uploaded a new story, oh, about 45 minutes ago. I just went in to verify that I had the description right, and something looked different about the submission page.

Turns out that it was approved and will be up for publication on Sunday. Thank you, Laurel!

Your head is spinning round, round, round, like a record because of some kind of record.

Wiped the dust off the counter, and dumped out the dregs of the last pot. New pot started.
And there's leftover pie in the fridge, pumpkin, pecan, chocolate, whichever (it's magic).

Ack! Snow! 3-4" of it. Not the end of the world, other than temps not going to make it above freezing until Wednesday, and then highs in the mid-30s for the rest of the week.

This sharp change in the weather - 20° below "normal" - is putting a kink in our studio spa progress. Next big item is concrete for the hot tub foundation, and nobody wants to take it on when temps are below freezing overnight. I have a Plan B, but am going to wait out the contractor responses this coming week.

@Plathfan I love that song! The only difference between that song and 2020's music is that it has a melody, defined rhythm, more than 3 cords, a singer with a trained voice, and legible lyrics. Other than that it's the same as modern music.

If I titled a story "Not a River in Egypt" do you think people would understand what it's about?
I don't know about 'people' but I wouldn't. :D Maybe it's just 'Denial?

Edit: I wrote this BEFORE reading all the other replies. Now I'm peeing in Denial! :giggle::nana:

Waking up each day is way of thanksgiving, I suppose. I'm catching up on readings here today. My day nurse barbecued a couple of steaks for us and a microwaved sweet potato. I heard Joe pardoned the turkeys, so we did the same. Too bad cows don't have the same status at the White House as Turkeys... :)
