The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Waking up each day is way of thanksgiving, I suppose. I'm catching up on readings here today. My day nurse barbecued a couple of steaks for us and a microwaved sweet potato. I heard Joe pardoned the turkeys, so we did the same. Too bad cows don't have the same status at the White House as Turkeys... :)
Are you calling Hunter a turkey?🤔

Well. my boys did it again, if you've never seen football the way football is SUPPOSED to be played, Sunday night's game in a Buffalo Style Lake Effect Snow Storm was Football! None of those fancy choreographed pass routes that a New York City Rockette would dance but a slip & slide free-for-all blitz in the blizzard. Anyone that could get moving without falling was considered an eligible receiver. The Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen did it all - run, pass, catch... On one memorable play Josh passed to an open receiver who couldn't get a firm grip on the ball, so the receiver tossed it back to Josh who ran it in for a touchdown. That counted as a touchdown reception for Josh, on a pass that he threw. He is the only NFL player in history to run for a touchdown, pass for a touchdown, and catch for a touchdown all in the same game.

It reminds me of the ribald joke about the dimwit hunter entering an enchanted forest:

A hunter chanced upon a naked fairy in the middle of a forest.
Unsure of handling this unexpected encounter, he asked, "Are you game?"
To which she replied with arched eyebrows and a grin as she studied his handsome face, "I...am!"
Whereupon he shot her.

Is Hunter still 'game,' or is it still a cry of 'fowl?' :nana:

Broncos dodged a bullet.

I spent all of my writing time today--several hours--on one conversation; writing it, rewriting it, changing my mind, taking a different direction. It's all about how the guys gets the girl back when he doesn't know how he lost her in the first place.

I remember the game where O.J., with McKenzie leading the way, rushed for 202 yards in the snow to be the first 2,000 yard rusher for a 14-game season ...

He did that at Shea Stadium against the Jets. That was when they named the Bill's offensive line "The Electric Company" (Because they let the Juice flow)
I was at the game just previous to that against New England. I took a childhood friend Ann to the game in the Brand New Rich Stadium... That was back when a kid could afford a pair of tickets in the D section off his paper route money... And now they're going to tear it down... 🥺

Ug. I think I overdid it at the weekend, mostly thanks to a two-mile unplanned hike home at midnight (traffic accident blocking the roads), and resurgence of whatever lurg I'm failing to fend off.

On the plus side, I've finally submitted the last chapter of a story. Oddly, it now says both Published and New, while still being in my Pending folder. Presumably it will go live at 7am, as usual when they get a New orange label. First thing I've managed to write since August. Next task, order Christmas presents...

Busy day in the offing pulling things together for tonight's symphonic winds concert. For some reason, our music director has gone overboard with a 100% Christmas concert. In the 19 years I've known him, this is a first. In fact, up until this concert he has made it a point to not do the saturation thing. Most of the selections are nice arrangements, but not particularly challenging for this ensemble - which also runs counter to his usual way of doing things. I'll have to make it a point to ask what his thinking was at our next business meeting.

Um, did something happen?
The Buffalo Bills (which would have become the Toronto Poutines if Buffalo didn't build a new Stadium) Just kicked the living hell out of San Francisco in 2 feet of snow. It was an tour-de-force for Josh Allen who just got engaged. He's the first NFL player ever to pass for a touchdown, run for a touchdown, and receive for a touchdown in a game. Check out the play at the 1:40 mark. The Bills captured their 5th straight AFC East Championship

Unfortunately you have to follow the link to YouTube.

Oh deer!

The coffee pot is full and the teapot is on the back of the stove. Jelly donuts are on the counter and I'm in the corner fighting with my Muse about my latest story ...
Thanks Candy. I feel your pain about your muse. Mine decided to head to warmer parts when I was writing my winter story and just left me hanging. Hopefully she'll turn up before next year's event. 😬

It's 53 here today. I'm still sick too! Time for some breakfast and coffee. I guess I'll have some Snap, Crackel, Pop!

I bought my folks a new washer and dryer combo (the stacked kind), which was delivered today. I'd told them about it, so it wasn't exactly a surprise, and it was about two weeks earlier than expected. Mum just texted me I'd need to drive down and put some laundry in it, or she'd do some for me. I said, "I have a washer and dryer, Mum." "Well, you can come down and watch me use my new then, I want to see you." So I guess Donnie is missing school today so we can visit his grandma!

**GRUMBLE ALERT**

The only project on which I’ve been able to write much lately is a series—and I learned, after my first few months here, to submit a series only after I have all of the parts written, edited, and ready to go. I wrote the first part quite a while ago, and I like that part, but I didn’t know what could/should happen next. It had a stopping place that was too good. I stopped. This Part 1 has therefore languished in the Unfinished folder.

Well, lately I have been drying up on ideas generally, so I peered into the U. folder to see if there was anything that I could work on, just to be writing something. The only thing that got any synapses firing was this series. So, I started thrashing away at a subsequent part.

Is there good news? Not exactly. I’ve written first drafts of Parts 2 and 3, and I like them, and I like the characters. But I have only a vague idea of what the ending would be, and not a clue how to get there. (There might be two more parts, or…not?) So I’ve gone from having 7k words of nice stuff that I didn’t want to pursue, to having 23k words of nice stuff that I don’t know how to finish.

try realizing at 75k words that it's going to take another 30k to get you to the end you want to achieve... before the end of the year.

I'm not so much worried about finishing anything before the end of the year. I'm more concerned about the number of ostensibly finished stories I'm afraid to upload because they go places that seem to draw fire - like cuckolding, M-M contact, forced, and dogging (as I just found out). I should just put on my big-boy pants and let 'er rip.

4" of snow over the weekend. 52° this very moment and the snow is completely gone. Not even any in the shadows. 18° for tomorrow's low, and almost 60° predicted for next Sunday. My wardrobe is screaming for mercy.
