The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

@Duleigh - Swoozie is a real cutie ...

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. This morning there are some hot croissants and muffins fresh out of the oven on the counter for noshing.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I had to do a minor rewrite to expound on a point I had glossed over before finishing the last scene before writing the hot steamy sex. I'm really pleased how the story has come together into something I hadn't visualized when I started, but that's how pantsing works, I guess ...

Coffee highly appreciated. Just filled my cup.

A slight sadness in the garden - one of the five cedars planted two weeks ago is dying. I have to run to the garden center this morning to replace with one from the same batch, as the last inventory check indicated they only had 11 left. If I don't, the line of trees will be "toothless".

Was just (online) shopping for wind chimes for our courtyard. Found one I liked, and will order this afternoon. I found it amusing discovering a strong preference for a chime scale in the key of C - everything else grated on me. At least this one company lists the specific notes, and from that it was apparent that the non-C scale combinations had one minor or dissonant note. No wonder.

It seems to me if they have the chimes in stock, you should be able to specify what you want and have them build it.

The first high quality wind chimes I heard were not Dorian nor Lydian, as @yowser suggested, but Corinthian (brand name). Is there a Corinthian mode? I accidentally brushed against a set hanging in a gift shop and they caught my attention right away. I think it would torture the neighbors.

This morning I await the delivery of a new living room set. We spent a month shopping for it last November and stopped because I felt like the prices were higher than the furniture was worth. Our stops at high-end furniture stores in Chicago got my wife thinking about furniture again, so we went to look at the first set we liked when we were shopping. The store had them on clearance and they had an additional 10% discount promotion. That took about 1/3 off the price and solved the problem I had with value.

P.S. Just checked. There was no Corinthian Mode.

Corinthian Bells®. Belongs to Wind River Chimes. It's mostly a fancy paint job, and doesn't convey any particular tone set. Their chimes are very pleasant.

The common modes (in order) are Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. Or, on a C major scale (do re mi), scales that start in C, D, E, F, G, A, & B.

Basically I found the Ionian chime set most appealing, although they don't name it by mode. It's C D E G A C. You'll note (pun!) that F and B are missing, and that would be because they'd be dissonant with E and C respectively.

You can get them in various scales, including C, and up to something like 6 feet long. The longest ones sound to me like church bells and cost close to $1000.

What impressed me when I first brushed against one was that I did a circuit of the store and went back, and they were still ringing from barely a touch. I imagine other tuned chimes might do that, but I haven't seen or heard many others.

I got the old living room furniture out to the porch and the delivery guys brought in the new. Then my new phone was delivered and I spent the rest of the day trying to figure out why the phone wouldn't complete setup. It works now.

Writing? What writing. And I have an 8:30 video conference. Retirement? What retirement?

My preference is for some Bristol Surprise Major on Tower bells, or maybe Stedman triples. There's a couple of decent recordings on Youtube.

Another typical spring morning with a cloudy start and scattered showers all day. Oh, well ...

The coffee pot is hot and full and the teapot is steaming and ready to pour. The cappuccino machine is watching me and I know it's ready to spring if I come anywhere near it. There are pastries and donuts on the counter so enjoy.

I've finally finished my story except for the hot and steamy sex scene. Now I just have to get myself heated up so I can get into it. If I don't, I tend to overthink it and end up rewriting it several times to make it flow more naturally ...

BTW: I will be going in for a procedure on my knee tomorrow morning so I will need someone to cover for me here. Thanks.

My oldest puppy turns 15 this month... there's not much of the old spark left, but every now and then something gets his attention and he's able to ignore the aches and pains of advanced age and play with the younger dogs.

OMG the rain! A region of instability has parked itself over us and is absolutely letting us have it! 2" since 7:00 this morning, and showing no signs of moving on. I've been checking the NWS radar every hour or so and since then there's this orange blob (heavy rain) that has not moved while everything else circles around it.

I sent a picture of the pond in the backyard to the guy who's supposed to be installing our new fence. He agrees that it's going to be at least two weeks of dry before he can do anything at all.

My task for today is supposed to be finishing the wiring for our hot tub, slated to be installed tomorrow. Since, oh, half of what's left to do is outside in the courtyard, I have my doubts. Criminy.

I should be thinking about maybe doing some more writing. What I would rather be doing is going over to the Mex place for lunch and a margarita, which is probably a bad idea if major electrical work (240V, 50A) to a subpanel is in the offing. I know the ghost of @TxRad (a very expert electrician) would be standing in front of the breaker panel staring me down and shaking his head.

In better news, I was successful yesterday with a replacement for the dying cedar. Store said they'd take it back for credit.

One nice thing about living in the desert is that things that need to get done outside usually get done as planned.

The morning's conference call turned into "Notwise presents for an hour." I'd have appreciated a heads-up from the organizer if that's what she expected.

It's nap time. See? I can be retired.

That's the ticket.

Electrical work was successful, completed in the time allotted, which mean margarita! with lunch. Thankful the job was done, and subsequently rewarded.

Now it's time for my nap! Rain has abated, too, and nothing in the forecast until Sunday evening. Pool & spa store called to inform us that tub wasn't going to be here until Saturday morning. That's great, because I have a little more electrical to do outside, and... being electrical... it's much preferable to do when everything isn't wet! Also have some minor plumbing in prep for the tub, so with the pressure off I can relax and maybe get it done right the first time.

I took my nap and planted dahlias. Now I have my WIP open for the first time in days. I've found that listening to heavy metal helps me connect to Zelda, so I'll sample from System of a Down for a while.

I popped in early since I couldn't sleep, worried about my mobility, and how I'm going to hate not being able to get around on my own. Oh, and of course, it's going to be our first nice sunny day in two weeks and I'm not going to be able to enjoy it.

Anyway, I made sure the cappuccino machine is turned on. The coffee pot is fresh and the teapot is hot. There are donuts on the counter.

I'll try to be back tomorrow. I doubt I'm going to get any writing done today. Take care everyone!

You too Candy. Hope it all goes well.

(Nicks a couple of donuts. Midnight snacks are the best!)

Good luck, CK. Hope you're able to get some enjoyment out of your pain meds.

Was rousted out of bed this morning by a spam phone call, so I'm still a little blurry/groggy. Normally they don't start until 9:00 or so. Unfortunately we have so many things going on that I have to keep the phone in "open sewer" mode to allow the many folks not yet in my contacts to ring through. ...sigh...
