The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Snow's done, our 7-14" was thankfully at the low end. Gawd. Since when am I thankful for 7" of snow?

Lights are on, internet is working, furnace is keeping up, larder is stocked. We're good.

11°F. Big windrow at the end of the driveway, as projected. Not at thing I can do about it 'cept rev 'er up and smash through if we have to go anywhere.

Smoke before sex? That's either insane confidence or something other than tobacco.
The intent was AFTER the sex scene, BEFORE the nap. Of course, I never smoked tobacco. And nothing else since the day Nixon resigned (I dod not stop in honor of him, just a coincidence, but the it makes it memorable).

Wow. Back inside from shoveling the snow off the front and back steps. Just the three steps each. Nothing else. My back is killing me, and I'm typing through the pain waiting for the acetaminophen to kick in.

C complained, "Why didn't you clear a path for the dog to get to the grass?"
"Okay, here," as I try to hand her the scoop.
"But the snow is light and fluffy!"
"Not when there's ten inches of it. He's a big dog, he can just deal with it!"

How's everyone else's day going? [...ow...]

Trying so hard not to write A Lezzie Lizard Valentine. It would have the same couple coming up in the next chapter of my series (in a MFF context, not FF; gecko/skink anthros) and feature one character from first submission (skink is BFFs with the tamandua MC), but would be a standalone concurrent piece with maybe one or two references to the first story, and I don't want to do back-to-back stories with the same characters, one as a chapter, one as standalone (though my brain is trying to convince me "But wouldn't it be interesting to see how the scalies interact with each other vs. how they intacter when the human MC is around in the series?"). But I also kind of want to do another Valentine's Day contest story and this is now just flitting about my brain like a trapped hummingbird.

Feel better!

"Not when there's ten inches of it. He's a big dog, he can just deal with it!"

Dog got the last laugh. He pooped in the dining room in front of the sliding door he uses. :poop: At least it's a tile floor.

Don't blame the puppy at all. His normal squat needs 6" of clearance. I guess my job tomorrow is to clear a little bit of space for his business, 'cause the snow is going to be there for at least a week. Poor guy.

In here, it's teetering on the edge of a thaw, so I'm kind of having the opposite problem. There is less an inch left, coating every flat surface, but it all turned into pure ice and the freezing rain doesn't help either.

@TheLobster - my back sympathizes with you.

It's cold here. At least the snow stopped. However, the cold has set in and tonight we're going to get negative temps with windchill down to -25F. The plow finally came through so the road is clear enough to drive but until my driveway is cleared, I'm not going anywhere.

There's fresh hot coffee brewing and the teapot is steaming. There are snacks on the counter along with some carrots for the plot bunnies

There's a fire in the fireplace so pull up a chair. I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I finally broke through the logjam at the introduction and getting into the flow of the story.

We had an inch of snow on the ground Sunday morning, then the sun came out. We should be at our morning low right now. The temperature is 8 degrees above yesterday's prediction and it should be another sunny day.

Here, the sun wins almost all the time.

No thaw teetering here. Dead thud froze hard, likely for the next week at least. Even the ice cubes are staying in the freezer where it's warmer than outside. VERY unusual here, more likely to be in the 40s or 50s than the teens.

MIGHT get a wee bit of melting on the blacktop driveway tomorrow with mid 20s and Sun.

Just checked the local news site - practically everybody is closed. It's currently -3°, windchill -17°. All the schools are "e-learning". I'll bet the kids hate that, but on the other hand there's not going to be any playing in the snow. Way too dangerous. Like FIH, well below freezing until next Tuesday.

Poor puppy. He is totally traumatized by the cold. We are doing our best to reassure him he's okay, giving him plenty of attention.

Same here, only the ice will achieve what the rain never does and turn the driveway into quicksand, so we'll have to wait another few days after the thaw to go anywhere.

Lucky kids. Ours are just out, and will have to make up the days at the end of the year, or by losing their free Fridays.

Yeah. Our pooch is going stir crazy not being able to get his daily walk.

We dug out yesterday; my folks did the same. The theater he runs will remain closed for one more day. Donnie loves snow. The poor kid feels deprived, he hasn't seen that much of it before. I hate it.

Most dogs should be fine going out for a few minutes to do their business in mildly negative temperatures, but of course I am not your vet.
It's the actual walk, he gets one good long walk a day after we get home from work everyday, then play time before bed. He's a herding dog, lots of energy, but these minus temps he can't walk in.

My kids are pretty upset. It's all white and thick, quite possibly eight inches still, but it's also hard packed ice, not snow. We could possibly make an igloo if we had the right tools. But the kids can't go out and play in this stuff like they could snow.

We have about 14 inches of fluff right now. And still getting deeper.

The idiot university administration mandated remote classes be cancelled as well as in person ones. For no discernible reason. I'm still trying to figure out how to rearrange around it.

I did go to my PT appointment in person. Roads were snowy, but fine if you drive cautiously.

I just shoveled a path and a small landing area for the puppy. Wasn't too awful - thin crust and light underneath. Ice on the steps was fortunately in direct sun and had melted enough to chisel off.

Acetaminophen for the back again. Expected, arthritis in my lumbar spine. At least I know what it is now. :(

Just uploaded a new Barstow chapter inspired out of the blue. It's in Horror, which is close a category as any to Adventure/Danger with a body count. Goes live Wednesday.
