The Big Lit Knit Thread (and crochet too)

Anyone here knitting/crocheting for commission? I'd love to buy some handmade pieces.

Self-striping yarn? That exists? *drool*

You bet! Right now I'm working with Bernat Sox which is fairly inexpensive. Most sock yarn is self-striping, and some other yarns are too. It's totally cool to watch the stripes form!

There's glow in the dark yarn too, you know. Also by Bernat. ;)

That is remarkable.

Oh man, if I were still pro. *sighs* I always wanted a Restoration (British, not US) era gown.

Thanks

The club I like to go to when I can is having a "Mayoween" party next week so I'm hoping to make a new bodice for my pirate costume before then. This is going to be an even larger jump into pattern making for me. I've always done a little bit of fudging, mixing this sleeve with that shirt and mix matching bodices, skirts, and chemices and things like that, but this...well this is something totally different. But after the altering i had to do on that girl's dress, and how well it turned out, I'm fairly confident in my ability to take this bodice out of my head and onto my body.

I was shoping for fabric and came across sock yarn and a magazine that had sock patterns and I instantly thought of you Etolie.

Shouldn't I have received some sort of bulletin about this?!

So can you get the striping to work if it's crocheted instead of knitted?

Of course! That's how my socks are going. Yarn is just yarn no matter what you do with it.

The glow stuff is pretty cool, I made an eyemask from it using Tunisian crochet. It glows bright!

Cool! I have a lot to learn yet.

Okay, I have a unique problem. I found the cutest toy mouse pattern to use up some of my leftover doily thread. It's really easy, and I use mylar (from the windows in business envelopes) torn into strips to make a crinkly stuffing. My problem is, the damn things look like sperm when I'm done. Seriously. I've embroidered little eyes and a nose on my first one, but I need a way to make ears that will stand out a bit and give it a less reproductive look. In the future I will use gray or brown thread, but since this is leftover, there's not a lot of choice in color. Anyone have an idea, or should I start marketing crocheted spermies?

I would buy a crochet sperm, no question.

And now for a super exciting embroidery update!

I am still working on the same embroidery that I was when this thread was first started. Its ridiculous. The grass is almost all done. Here is a photo: http://twitpic.com/7s1na

And here is an exclusive close up! http://twitpic.com/7s1pn

I would buy a crochet sperm too. I must admit.

That's fecking hilarious beyond almost any physical description. Think of the conversation piece it would make for your coffee table!

Try doing 4 double crochets(or more if needed) in one stictch on each side where the ears should be, like you're making a granny square. Then you can tack down each side of the ear with thread.

that's my idea anyway. :)

Yes. Dear God, yes. Take some slightly more marketing oriented photos, put 'em on etsy, promo the fuck out of them and watch catnip sperm start turning into movie night money.

This post, and the idea, are made of win.

Aw hell yeah.

I've always made separate ears for my mice. Here is the pattern I use: Little Mouse
