See? that always kills me. Say something is misogynistic and everyman in the room shouts, no it isn't! It's against the establishment, society.. and that being what it is means we require our women to be scantily clad and hot for whatever we are grabbing our crotches over.

I am also a metal lover and to be honest? I don't think that most of my favourites are mysoginistic in any way. The ones that could be seen like that? I don't give a fuck, it's a good song.

I've been to Disturbed and Slipknot, I wore tight fitting black clothing and my hair was pretty punk rock. But...I get called a slut anywhere and that was no exception

However that was by my friends and not by the artists or any of the crowd. The one artist that acknowledged my group and those around us was the lead guitarist of Disturbed - we were in the seating area; standing and screaming and holding up the devil horns and just generally being louder than the mosh pit. Lol!

Anyways, the guitarist pointed to us and then whispered to the lead singer once the song ended and he sat down in the middle of the stage and said, "If I did this through the whole concert, how boring would that be? These guys," He pointed to us, "Have the right idea so get the fuck up!"

And the one of the crowd that approached me and my girl at Slipknot simply asked if he could get a photo with the two gorgeous babes.

No one ever talks about how men are hated on, only when men are mysoginists. shock horror...a woman said that

I confess I am glad to be home with those I love and the fluctuating temperatures and time zones have left me worse for the wear but Holes has never smiled so much, I fear she missed having someone to tend to sexually. I may well be exhausted.

You do make a good point that a song's lyrics don't even necessarily have to translate over to something you believe in to think it's a good song. I like a lot of Dimmu Borgir's music, for instance, and they're pretty dark. There was a time where I listened to Slayer but I've never been some God hater or satanist either. Raining Blood is just a damn fun song to play on the guitar.

Though to nitpick, Disturbed and Slipknot aren't technically metal. Not that they aren't good. Just different genre.

Actually I confess I have a hard time remembering the lyrics to a lot of the things I listen to. They're pretty hard to understand sometimes with the accents. I've always been more focused on the music than vocals, which is why I can tolerate the bands with the harsh vocals as long as there's interesting music behind it.

I remember the lyrics of most songs once they start playing lol! But yeah, my mate is heavily into Lamb of God and other metal so I hear it all the time - even though my own tastes in music are all over the place.

In any case, everyone is far too quick to label things and stereotype so I had to jump in. Now I'm gonna jump out and take pain killers, all this serious type discussion is ripping my head open >.<

Perhaps, but they exist for good reason. Iron Maiden, Ayreon and Cradle of Filth are all classified as metal, but they're very different musically. They just happen to share a common compositional trait. Maybe someone should have come up with new names for these things instead of just subgenres, but kinda too late now, I guess.
