In defense of American football, the forward pass was not originally part of the game. Kicking was initially more strategic and common than the present day game.

I'm most impressed by the ref, to be honest, and the respect he has from the players. Not getting that in any other sports.

The rules then were ok. I'd never get my head around them today.

I played openside and then blindside as I got older / slower, the laws are mostly suggestions in my opinion

Great game if you want to keep fit, our school was a rugby school, wherever the ball was me and my mate would make sure we were on the other side of the pitch

Some of that comes from just how the game is played,, another part is, punishment for arguing gets the ball moved 10, so something that might be a kick to touch could become a kickable pen, or a kick to touch to the halfway line becomes a kick to touch in the 22,, so you could cost your team points by disagreeing with Sir
