The Dwunky Munky Thread

I think u might need a drink;)

Thank you, but no. I'm trying to pace myself. I've already had a bag of grass, five pellets of mescaline, two sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, and screamers. Oh, and a dozen amyls.

I'm saving the rum for dessert.

Fear and Loathing in Mexico by Hunter S. Munky

I read his books back in college, I seem to recall enjoying the Campaign Trail '72 a lot too.

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn professional.”

“Live steady. Don't fuck around. Give anything weird a wide berth -- including people. It's not worth it. I learned this the hard way, through brutal overindulgence.

“I feel The Fear coming on, and the only cure for that is to chew up a fat black wad of blood-opium about the size of a young meatball and then call a cab for a fast run down to that strip of X-film houses on 14th Street… peel back the brain, let the opium take hold, and get locked into serious pornography.”

Awwwww ... good ol' Hunter. He was a bit of an odd fellow too! ;)

I did a re-read of everything (and I mean everything!) Doc wrote right after he died. Amazing. I sure miss him. One of my great regrets is not having made a pilgrimage to Woody Creek.

Yeah - Reading him inspires you to want to knock back a fifth with him and listen to him tell stories. Since reading LV, I've always admired and wanted to own a Vincent Black Shadow. In the early 80's I could have afforded one, it would have been a bit of a stretch, they were selling for $7.5 to 10k. Now collectors have driven the prices up to $100k for a restored one and it will never happen for me. :(

Maybe we should turn this thread into a Gonzo Tribute

“Indeed ... but no sand this time, so the lever goes up into fourth, and now there's no sound except wind. Screw
it all the way over, reach through the handlebars to raise the headlight beam, the needle leans down on a hundred, and wind-burned eyeballs strain to see down the centerline, trying to provide a margin for the reflexes.

But with the throttle screwed on there is only the barest margin, and no room at all for mistakes. It has to be done right ... and that's when the strange music starts, when you stretch your luck so far that fear becomes exhilaration and vibrates along your arms. You can barely see at a hundred; the tears blow back so fast that they vaporize before they get to your ears. The only sounds are wind and a dull roar floating back from the mufflers. You watch the white line and try to lean with it ... howling through a turn to the right, then to the left and down the long hill to Pacifica ... letting off now, watching for cops, but only until the next dark stretch and another few seconds on the edge ... The Edge ... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others -- the living -- are those who pushed their control as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between Now and Later."

Now or Later? Pretty soon, Later is Now, and Now is Yesterday.

Ooops, sowwy, didn't mean to wax (un)poetic. I think I'll visit the Boobie Thread now.
