The Games (Poetry Olympics)

I thought that too when I saw the title. It can have 2 meanings, which I think (my opinion only) means it was on purpose. To confuse...oops make us ponder the use of such a word.

Am I the only one who doesn't know who their team partners are?? And I haven't been told yet which leg of the race I am....

I'm sure U.P. will be online much later tonite but, I can't really stay up and wait around to see....

UP seems to like to edit earlier posts rather than make new posts - which I also find confusing - its not the common practice so unless you know that's his particular fetish you wouldn't know to check the first post of this thread to see that's where he added the teams - I only figured it out by accident...

Which also explains the method he's chosen to have us all respond as a team under the same name in the same edited post...

I'm willing to give it a try, what the hell, but unless you know that's the game plan then it won't make any sense...

Unfortunately "MUCH" later tonight probably won't work for me - and I really don't know how much time I'll have to work on it tomorrow - but I'll make do...

If he meant it to be ambiguous he did a great job - if he didn't, and he had a particular meaning in mind, then I guess I've got a 50-50 chance of getting it right.

Well ... I just wrote mine with the interpretation I wanted to use. Given that it will be the title of a poem, so the reader won't have any further explanation either, I don't think it's going to be an issue.

Variety is the spice of life, right ;-)

now do I have a choice as to which meaning I decide to use or did UP have a particular meaning in mind?

Dilly,

use your own definition. I was talking to U.P. the other night and he said how each person intreprets the title and their writing style is what's going to make this thing so interesting.

lovetoread,

this seems to be going faster than planned ...

Maybe every team can message UP or post here when it's done, and the work can be submitted earlier?

The suspense... bad enough that I have to wait another 11+ months until the second lord of the rings movie, but 2 more days to read all the poems???

;-)

Note to WickedEve -- don't rush though. Take all the time you have. Hold on until the last second to submit if you have to. Rewrite it until it shines with the light of a thousand suns. Go girl!!!

Oh gawd, pushing that send button was hard. Thank goodness I wasnt first or last. The part that got me was counting the words, who knew that you used so many in such a short format?

So how many teams are on their last poet, I wonder?

Come play haiku with us and see what short format is. :p

Hello

Hello everyone,

Just read the last few post. Sorry I have been out of town and away from my pc. You seem to have all figured out what to do. The beginning of the thread does hold all the info. For those that joined later, or didn't have the patience to slog through the directions or found them confusing accept my apologies.

I feel we should hold the original timetable. The last person of each group will post the finished poem under the assigned team name on Wednesday evening.

I hope the building suspense will be tolerable. I had originally picked a more challenging title with 5 common definitions perhaps next time should we do this again we can try something hardrer.

Okay so am I the only one on "pins and needles"?

Dillinger I thought you read the start of the post. All instructions and annoucments are done there.

I didn't find it exactly nerve wracking but I know what you mean about keeping it under 40 words AND 7 lines. I'm pretty wordy myself and I really wanted to write A LOT more. The 7 line thing was pretty tough for me too - because I also like to "spread" my words out on the page... *lol*

But it was fun.

*lol* Yup - I kept recounting and recounting to make sure it was under 40 words!

This may sound like a silly question, heck it may have already been asked...

But I am asking it anyway. Is there going to be an announcement when the poems are posted on Lit? I know that sometimes the stories/poems get posted really fast and sometimes it can take a few days.

(By being posted I do mean up and readable on the site.)

Annoucement

Excellent thought LTR,

When they make the list. I will post a thread for each team, which will include the poem. Then I hope we will all vote on the poems of the other teams. I suggest team members abstain from voting on your own.

It should be interesting to see how the votes go.

I was in the "peanut butter and jelly" on my team.....in
the middle too! :) I had to count the words at least 5-7 times
before finally breathing sighs of relief and submitting! Its
amazing to see how many words are in such a short format....
freaked me out a bit .........

GOLD!

I know what your saying I had to rewrite three times. I think the best of my poem I had to cut. I am predicting the Gold for “Rhyme N Punishment” there is only one other all estrogen team and I think we can take em.

One word for you...

Not! ;)

away on business

feeling out of the loop. Are folks saying their teams are done writing the poem in one day?

how do you write your section without seeing the preceeding one? Or has the work in progress been passed to each player in a day?

Well, I hate time frames. Being on time is about the best I can do.

Look forward to seeing all the poems on the New Poem List.

Peace,

daughter

p.s. I've gotten past the shoe leather taste
