The Grey and Black Wars

"It is okay to be back but I don't want to speak to Valian just yet."

"Why is it you do not want to see me. Are you trying to avoid me because if you are I would be most unhappy."

Selene had heard him coming and had actually thought that Jon would answer differently but he didn't which lead to trouble... she felt bad for the man that was going to have to listen to Valian but he would live... and she hoped that he would because she would be lonely without him...

Him and his stupid antics...

"I hear that you had some trouble yestereve."

"Yes. But no thanks to your friend here I am safe and here where you want me. I do not mean to be rude but if you wanted what I had taken there is no need to have her bring me here."

Valian laughed. "You think that I want what you stole? Don't be stupid Jonathon, I want you safe and that's it. All I want is for you to be safe and come back here where you live."

"You don't want a piece of what I have? I thought that is the only way that people can live in this hall or have things changed lately that I don't know about?"

Oh... she almost reached up and covered his mouth when she saw where this was shifting to and she knew that it was going to be really bad for him.. Maybe she should just give him a book to read so he could stop getting lost in the lives of others.

"It is just the price you have to pay for staying here Jon. You know while you are here you are safe from everyone else and after what has happened then it is the safest place for any of us to be. I only ask for a small portion of what everyone takes so that you can stay here but if you do not wish to stay here then by all means leave and try to survive on your own. I warn you though that if you try to then I do not think you will last until your next day. Do you wish to try that?"

Selene frowned at Valian. This was going too far... was? was he threatening?

"You know that I don't Valian. As soon as I give my patron his box then I can get my coins and you will get some of it."

"Do not try my patience Jon. You only stay and live because I let you. I can and will throw you out into the streets if you would like."

"Valian," she said catching his attention... "Why are you being so hard on him?" She demanded. She reached into her purse and dug out the little clip of money. She dug out what she thought that this job was going to make monewise. "Here..." She said handing it over... "Leave me alone..." She said.

Tirinath stood as Tove entered the room. "Morning, Madam DeCourt, how was your sleep? may i offer you some tea?." he asked "How about you lads, some tea? perhaps something to eat?" he asked as he got up and Tove sat down. He moved into the kitchen to finish brewing the pot he had been making and brought to the table along with cream and sugar and 4 mugs. "So what brings everyone to my home? Tove requires no explanation, but i still do not understand why you've come to watersdeep K'ahl, and why you've come to see me Cairo." he said, pouring a cup of tea for himself

"Sleep was.... well I slept," she said as she pushed the deep dark covers from the back of her mind. She didn't need to think of that again. "Tea would be lovely..." She answered but didn't look up at him yet.

Tove was glad that she didn't need to explain... Well... mostly because she herself really didn't know why she was here... she remembered the attack of all of those guards that she had provoked but otherwise she didn't know what exactly was going on.

Talon went to his home... It wasn't much... He didn't stay with the thieves anymore, it was pointless when they didn't want to protect him. He looked out for them and they were prone to just letting him die or fall apart.

He wished that he was back to the good old days before the old assassin clan was doing it's own thing and he was allowed to hug and hold his beautiful Shepard again but it wasn't going to happen so no point wasting time.

He wondered why he was still so stuck... the point was that she was not supposed to just show up and drive him crazy.

"Yes, I suppose I owe an explanation... In truth I-"
"Man, I told'ju why I's here." Cairo shot a glare at K'ahl.
K'ahl let out a deep sigh. "What happened was an accident, though I've yet to apologize to a child." He looked back to Tirinath. "And as is also owed, my apologies to your lady friend..." The elf bowed his head in Tove's direction as he let out another sigh. "As for an explanation of my presence here, I myself do not completely know." He leaned back in his chair and let a serene smile spread across his lips. "But my instinct's gotten me this far. I would hate to burden you. Perhaps today you could show me the town and I shall find another inn to stay my term here." After a pause he asked "Would that suit you?"
"What? Now you a nice guy? Thas' some o' Bullshit." Cairo stood. "Sorry, T. Anyway, I'm out." Cairo left by the door he came in. He whistled for his wolf and headed in the direction of the Guild Hall. How was he going to prove himself? What more ways were there?

OOC: Supporting characters like Valian, other guild superiors, bartenders, inn keepers, and anonymous citizens are fair game right? Can just anyone speak for them? If I wanted to arrange a dialogue between Cairo and Valian, is that Angelus's character or how does it work?

Tirinath poured Tove some tea, and bid farewell to Cairo. "Nonsense, i have an extra room and someone has to keep you alive K'ahl." Tirinath said chuckling "I just have to prepare the room for you is all." Tirinath looked at Tove "Sugar?"

Cairo Makeo

Cairo banged loudly on the Hall door. "Yo! Open this shit up! Damn Tom, you know who this is! I wanna' talk ta' Valian!" Cairo's knuckles began to bleed as his flesh peeled off onto the rough wooden door. He had never had reason to dislike the door man, in fact, he wasn't even sure it was his job to open the door, which would explain the lack of a response. He just always seemed to be there with a gentle smile. "Yo! Anybody there?"

K'ahl Silvaris

"If you are certain, Tirinath. Even I know better than to try your judgment. If you will keep, then me I will stay." He gave a brief pause. "I've been thinking about what you said earlier. Although I would never cash in my sword, as I think You know, I am in the market for a dagger. I don't trust this city and am in need of something that can be drawn quickly. Do you know where to get elven weaponry these days?"

"Hold a moment." Tirinath said as he went to a closet and opened it up, displaying an impressive collection of weaponry, weapons so fine that the lowest quality was impossibile for all but the most skilled of human smiths to replicate. Blades ranging from axes and swords to claws and katars. He found a fine elven knife, curved with an ivory handle and a twelve inch blade in a dragonhide sheath. He took it out and closed the closet, proceeding to sit at the table and slide the blade over to K'ahl. "That should do nicely, have you kept up with your knifeplay?" Tirinath asked, in the unmistakeable tone of a master speaking to a student.

She looked up thinking he had called her sugar but quickly realized this was not the case. "Yes, thank you," she said taking a spoonful. She didn't really listen, and at the same time she was listening, to the two men banter on about weaponry and all that jazz.

She watched them get up but otherwise just sat there drinking as she looked at the newsprint laid out on the table.

"I'm sure I'm just in the way..." She said softly when he came back from the weaponry chamber.

"Nonsense madam, you are more then welcome here, my antics were instrumental in the destruction of your workplace, this is the least i can do."

She chuckled at that.

Well it was true he and K'ahl had indeed destroyed the whole place. They were responsible... but staying at their home was just a little strage. "Are you sure... i would have to intrude on you," she offered.

"If you so desire, you are more then welcome." Tirinath said, pouring more tea "I must simply prepare a room for you, my home is large enough, but i very rarely have guests, so the other rooms have been used for storage and such. If you'd like to stay, i would be pleased to prepare the room for you."

Tove wasn't sure what was possessing her to actually accept this offer from the assassin but she did. She decided that it would be safe here and that that she would be safe here so long as he never found out...

"Thank you," she said happily.

Talon

The theif woke when his leg spasmed painfully. He was alert and ready to go despite the charlie horse forming. His left foot moved against his right calf to try and relax the muscle as he looked around the dark room... Someone was there with him and this was not going to be a night of fun in the bedroom.

He moved his way from the bed and saw the shadow of a man that had come...

This was not going to be a fast kill... This man would draw out much pain before he let Talon finally leave this hellish world. The theif was curious as to what the hell he was going to do... His knives, which had been in his clothes, were gone...

So this man was toying with him...

"Very well, its settled then." Tirinath said smiling. "Help yourselves to anything, I am off to prepare the rooms." he said, getting up and heading down the hall.

K'ahl Silvaris

K'ahl watched as the elder elf left the room. The girl was staying too? This would truly be a test of his patience. He examined the blade Tirinath had given him. Who but Tirinath would keep such an arsenal in their home? He played it around in his fingers, flipping it back and forth around his wrist. T'wasn't his specialty to be sure, but... K'ahl could handle a knife.
He placed the object on the table and reclined in his seat, trying to think of something to break the silence.

Tove continued to sip her tea as she watched him 'play' with his new toy. She didn't really care but was more or less amused at the fact that he was going to do that at the kitchen table. Her mind was running a million miles and hour of course...

She was thinking about what had happened yesterday with the human guards and knew that they would all be searched for.

"So... you're an assassin?" She asked as if that was a completely normal topic to get onto.

Dahlia, The Good Shepherd

Dahlia was poised on the threshold of the slums and Water Deep at large.

It's not too late She thought. It's not too late to go back, to try and follow him...

Her instincts gnawed at her to do just that, but Talon's bitterness still lingered in her thought. He had challenged her to stay this time, yet he wanted nothing to do with her right now, if ever.

Against her better judgment, Dahlia shunned the dividing line between the poor of this city and the affluent. She retraced her steps back to Avarra's temple and struck out again in the direction that Talon had went. She felt the assuring weight of her purse inside her cloak.

If I must bribe my way to him, I will. Though he doesn't want me, I must remain beside him, even at a distance...

The slums were darker, more dangerous than she could've imagined as she ventured deeper and deeper in. She knew that Talon wouldn't leave any trace of where he was going if he didn't want to be found, but she prayed that a well placed coin or two might light the way.

Tirinath smoked his pipe happily as he cleaned the rooms and prepared them. "Its been a long time since i had company" he said to himself. "Ill have to pay the guild for erasing the battle last night, otherwise guards will be all over the place." he said humming an old ballad to himself as he continued his work.

Talon had made it easy for her... because he was sure that he had said enough to make her not want to follow him... but deep down he had hoped that she would. But now he was starting to see that this had been a bad idea... He had an assassin in his rom... one that was obviously skilled and trained to fight in the dark.

And obviously the bastard had taken his knives before hand..

Great... just fucking great.

He dodged as he felt the attack coming but his sight hadn't adjust yet so he was shit out of luck. He coughed when he was suddenly punched in the gut. He didn't go down... but yes... this was a preview of the night.

"I'm sorry Dahlia..." He whispered to her as he shut his eyes waiting for the next attack.

Dahlia, The Good Shepherd

It's not like Talon to be so careless... Dahlia thought as she made her way through the dark streets. Unless he really wanted me to follow... Unless he was testing me...

Hungry, grubby people huddled around barrel fires, and leered at her as she passed amongst them. Between a few coins and Talon's somewhat easily followed trail, she was led to a run down tenement called the Razor Wing.

Dahlia entered and pushed past garishly made up prostitutes. The thick haze of smoke clung to her and she looked for a one-eyed man called Reval. He stood behind what passed for a beat up bar, wiping out a dirty glass with an equally dirty rag.

"Looks like you be in the wrong place, lady." Reval snorted. " 'less you be slummin' this eve..."

Dahlia gave Reval a cool look from beneath her cloak and slid a gold piece over to him.

"Talon's room." she said quietly.

Reval grinned a grimy, greedy grin as he snatched up the coin.

"Up 'th stairs, last on the left..."

And then more quietly:

"That's two tonight, come lookin' for 'im..."

Dahlia's eyes went wide under her dark blue hood. Someone was already here for him! She pushed her way through drunks and prostitutes and gamblers, who muttered sharp curses at her as she ran up the battered stairs. She drew her shortsword as she came to Talon's room, threw open the door and there an assassin was, poised over the thief.

She saw the sudden glint of the assassin's weapon in the dim light from the hall. Dahlia barely had time charge the other man and knock him away...

Jon looked at Selene and wanted to demand why she had done that but then again it did get Valian off his back. He stood there as Valian counted the coins in his hands, a large smile in his hands.

"There you go. You have the money that you want for us to stay here, at least for another night. I won't bother you anymore... so, I will take my leave of you."

Valian opened his mouth as if to say something but Jonathon turned and walked away from him, a dark smile on his face. As soon as he got far enough away he got a genuine smile on his face and turned to look at Selene.

"Thank you for that. Valian was easy enough to handle; you didn't have to give him those coins but thank you."

He walked towards the stairs that led down into the actual hall with a deep breath. It was good to be here, at least for a day. As soon as he came to the bottom of the stairs he looked around him to find his room only to see one of this friends standing there sharpening his sword.

"Thain, how are you this day!"

Thain raised his head and looked at Jon, a smile coming to his face, "I am doing better than you I heard. I had heard that the guards chased you around the city trying to get what you stole. I was wondering if they had caught you after you disappeared but here you are. You are truly the luckiest of thieves Jonathon. I don't think anything can phase you."

It was then that Thain spotted Selene and his smile got larger.

"Well well, what do we have here. I knew you were lucky but that is truly ridiculous."

She smiled at Jon. "Of course I didn't have to..." She said as they walked towards the stairs that would lead them to the large hall that housed most of the rooms where the theives stayed. It was just the feeling of overall safety here that appealed to her. It wasn't so much the actual rooms or any of the people... well Jon now but before not really anyone. She was the sort to keep to herself mostly.

"But... I think that you owe me something for the money..." She said with an impish smile at him before a man came into view. She really didn't hide behind him but naturally fell back to just out of view. It was something that she had been trained to do.

Selene had to smile at the man as he joked. He was right, Jon was truly the luckiest thief she had ever met. Because not a lot of thieves would have taken the bodyguarding rescue mission and certainly not such a beautiful one.

The wolf girl saw that look and that grin and knew that the other man was thinking the best case scenario. She smiled.

"Yes, he is very... very lucky," she said coming forward and holding her hand out to the man with the sword. "Selene," she said simply letting her sexy little hips jut off to one side as she looked at him.

K'ahl Silvaris

"I'll have to pay the guild for erasing the battle last night, otherwise guards will be all over the place."
K'ahl Silvaris smiled as his friend passed through the room, sorting out this and that and making the guest quarters fit for company. "I suppose you will, Although I would happily pay part." Then after a moment he added, "Not that I had anything to do with it." He shot Tirinath a guilty grin. He then turned back to address Tove's question. "He's the assassin. I used to be, but... Anyway, any more tea Tirinath? I wouldn't mind a cup."
