The Grey and Black Wars

Dahlia reached for Talon, but her slender fingers only grazed his shoulder as he disappeared out the temple door and into the night. He was a ghost to her again, as he was engulfed by the slum's darkness.

"What do I have to do to atone?" she whispered.

Dahlia flipped up the hood of her dark blue cloak. She had to find a place to stay for the night. In the morning, she would start the hunt for the ones who had contracts on Talon.

I am your shadow she thought as she made her way out of the slums and looked for an inn to stay at. Until I am naught but dust....

OOC: Oh I love it... thought he was just going to take her back huh?

"I am but a simple warrior, trying to make his way in the world." Tirinath said "May i offer you refreshment Madam DeCourt?

Nah... didn't think that at all.

Just wait until she starts killing all the people who have contracts on him. Nothing says I love you like eliminating his enemies :D

OOC: That really is a clear 'I love you'...

The smile returned to Jon's face at that statement and as he watched the kid run off he laughed. His luck was actually changing for the better this time but he didn't want to jinx it by saying that it was good.

As he was led by Selene through the streets Jon began to recognize the area that he was in all too well. He had come here so many times that he could tell where every window on every house was. As he turned his head to look at Selene it suddenly dawned on him. She was one of the guild that he belonged to and the only reason she had been there was because she had been told by the guild master to not let him get caught.

He knew that he should smile at that but for some reason couldn't find himself to do so. He didn't know how much she knew about him and what he had stolen where he practically knew nothing. He knew that the guild was large but he had no idea just how large until right at this point.

"So, Valian told you to watch me did he. I knew that he liked me but this is ridiculous."

Before long they were standing in front of an unassuming building which Jon knew was just one of the entrances into the hall below. He knocked on the door slowly and deliberately, watching as it opened slightly. A man's head appeared in the crack but when he saw Jon standing there it opened and the man who stood there cracked a smile.

He moved forward faster than it was possible for a person his size and grabbed Jon in his arms, squeezing him until Jon started slapping him on the back.

"Jon. I heard about all those guards chasing you yestereve. Valian hoped that you hadn't been caught by them and sent others out to look for them. I am glad to see that you are okay."

"Thanks to this beautiful woman beside me Thomas. I thought that I would be facing the dungeons if not for her."

Thomas looked at Selene and opened his arms to give her a hug but Jon stopped him.

"I don't think that she can handle a hug from you Thomas. You forget your own strength at times."

Thomas laughed, "That's true. I forget just how big I am at times."

Without another second the three of them moved through the door.

"So, Valian told you to watch me did he. I knew that he liked me but this is ridiculous."

She felt a smile cross her face as he figured it out. "Yes well... I'm sure that he has his own agenda as well," she said with a smirk and a wink. She was glad that he wasn't so stupid... but honestly was surprised that it had taken him as long as it had. She knew the ways in and waited as the handsome man knocked...

She didn't know this door man and as he moved forward so quickly she was taken aback. She smiled at Jon who seemed to know him however.

"Jon. I heard about all those guards chasing you yestereve. Valian hoped that you hadn't been caught by them and sent others out to look for them. I am glad to see that you are okay."

"Thanks to this beautiful woman beside me Thomas. I thought that I would be facing the dungeons if not for her."

Selene saw that the man had every intent to hug her and she was nervous, she was a big strong girl being able to take care of herself and everything but this man could have done some damage.

"I don't think that she can handle a hug from you Thomas. You forget your own strength at times."

"That's true. I forget just how big I am at times."

She smiled at that and led the way into the guild. It would be an interesting story that was for sure. She stopped at the hall entrance to let the footsteps pass... it wasn't that she was nervouse but why hit someone with the door. "Wow... It's nice to be back," she said before walking down the hall.

"You want to talk to Valian right?" She asked.

Cairo Makeo

Cairo watched the two enter the building. Both guild recognized thieves? Cairo tried to imagine how simple his life would be if he belonged to the guild. Sleeping in the same bed two nights in a row... sleeping in a bed at all. Well, that wasn't fair he thought. Tove at the Grinning Skull always gave him a room on slow nights. He was fortunate after all, best not forget his blessings. So long as he had the Skull, he was just fine.

********

Cairo stumbled upon the remains of the Grinning Skull Pub early the next morning.
"What the fu-"
He remembered seeing a pack of guards race in as he took off. But, they didn't do this... Did they? Then he remembered Tirinath speaking with another elf. He didn't recall seeing him anywhere before. A new face at the tavern? Not good. No, no, definately not good. New means change, and with change comes trouble.
Cairo tried to remember where Tirinath resided, he remembered an old oak door... Well, better than nothing.
He whistled to his wolf to get its attention. He then shot out an open hand, pointing north closing his hand into a fist as a command to be discreet. At that, Grief slunk off into the shadows, without a sound. Cairo headed west. He needed into the guild now more than ever.

********

At approximately 5:00 Watersdeep standard time, after an hour of walking, Grief came back to report.
"Well, that cancels out West and North. Damn this city for having more than four quarters!" The sun was coming up and Cairo was exhausted. How could the Guild heads not permit him entrance. Only yesterday did he steal an item from one of their own members. Well, sort of. "Grief, South." he said, facing the final direction of the human compass. "East it is."

Cairo Makeo

Cairo waited outside for several hours, and when he was sure that Tirinath was awake, he called up to his window. No answer. He knew that as an assassin Tirinath had been up probably before he got here, but... Hey, that could be why the Thieves' Guild wouldn't accept him. He was always hanging out with assassins.
Oh well, Tirinath was friend to all in this town, if no blade was drawn against him, he held nothing against you. 'Least that's what Cairo gathered.
"Mista' Tirinath!" still no answer.
God damn, was he going to have to use the door? Window conversations were so much more convenient.
... Plus they couldn't knife you dead.
"Tirinath!"

Tirinath awoke, realizing he had fallen asleep in the drawing room. He heard a voice calling him with an odd accent. He went to the window and looked down and saw Cairo on the ground. "Cairo what are you doing here?" he said. He then remembered, Tove and turned to look for the girl

K'ahl Silvaris/Cairo Makeo

K'ahl shifted about uneasily in his seat. It was his own fault for destroying the inn, but he didn't much care for this stiff armchair in the main area of a small urban housing structure.
Tirinath, must have slipped out for a drink . K'ahl was now alone in his whittled chair-like prison, unsure of what to do. Then he heard a voice outside the window.

"Tirinath!" Cairo called. "Tiri-" A dark form shot from the window, landing behind him.
"I don't think he's here." K'ahl said.
"Hey, you... You're the elf that... Did you bust up the Skull?!"
K'ahl looked down at the boy his eyes burning holes into the other. "Who is asking?"
"Wh-... y-..." Cairo swung back a foot, balancing his weight. One clenched fist came down in what appeared to be an amateurish battle stance. "Sonnava'! Where'm I gonna eat, fool?!"
"Is this a challenge, child?" K'ahl unclasped his sword from his back and with a devastating swing, lodged the blade three feet within the stone paving of the street. Next he unbuttoned his bloody cloak and threw it to the side. He stood before his junior of over a century and smiled. "You'd better be tougher than you look."
Cairo bore a puzzled expression. "Wait," he allowed his arms to fall to his sides as he straightened the arch in his back. "Do you realize we're the same height?" He cocked an eyebrow. "I mean, that's not intimidating at all."
K'ahl's elf ears picked up a rustling in the house he had come out of. "Oh, guess he is here..."
Cairo: "Yo, T, this hater busted up tha' Skull!"
K'ahl grabbed his things and muttered a silent curse as he headed back. When he got to the door he was a little shocked to see the kid standing there holding out his coin pouch with a grin. K'ahl patted himself down to be sure. "When did...?"

OOC:gotta be careful man, you have habit of overstepping yhour bounds as a player, you cant speak or take action for another players character. most people dont like that

OOC:Fair enough, you have my sincere apologies. Won't happen again. Have edited last post. Thanks.

OOC: its alright lad, i know your a rookie yet.

Tirinath walked out the door and held it open. "Cairo, what do you need lad?" he said holding out his hand for the money pouch.

"Such things happen, the pouch if you please Cairo." Tirinath said. "And could everyone please re-enter the house?"

Jon walked slowly down the hallway, looking first left and right. He knew that this was where he belonged but this was not the place that he wanted to be at this point in time. He wanted to be where he would be alone but when he saw all the people around him he knew that he never would be and took a deep breath. He looked at Selene and noticed that she was happy to be here then let out a sigh.

"It is okay to be back but I don't want to speak to Valian just yet."

As soon as the words left him he heard a voice come from behind him.

"Why is it you do not want to see me. Are you trying to avoid me because if you are I would be most unhappy."

Jon slowly turned just to see Valian as he walked towards him, his hand on his belt as usual. The scowl was back on his face as it normally was which made Jon take another deep breath.

"I hear that you had some trouble yestereve."

"Yes. But no thanks to your friend here I am safe and here where you want me. I do not mean to be rude but if you wanted what I had taken there is no need to have her bring me here."

Valian laughed. "You think that I want what you stole? Don't be stupid Jonathon, I want you safe and that's it. All I want is for you to be safe and come back here where you live."

"You don't want a piece of what I have? I thought that is the only way that people can live in this hall or have things changed lately that I don't know about?"

Valian's happy look disappeared instantly. "It is just the price you have to pay for staying here Jon. You know while you are here you are safe from everyone else and after what has happened then it is the safest place for any of us to be. I only ask for a small portion of what everyone takes so that you can stay here but if you do not wish to stay here then by all means leave and try to survive on your own. I warn you though that if you try to then I do not think you will last until your next day. Do you wish to try that?"

"You know that I don't Valian. As soon as I give my patron his box then I can get my coins and you will get some of it."

"Do not try my patience Jon. You only stay and live because I let you. I can and will throw you out into the streets if you would like."

Jon knew then that he was going to be staying here.

OOC: Having only now, after my initial apology, realised the full extent of my crime, I have edited several posts including post #187.

K'ahl Silvaris and Cairo Makeo

The two slowly returned to the home, heads hung low. Cairo was the first to beak the silence.
"Was' you really gonna' fight a kid?"
"I'm a hermit, so to speak. When I'm in town, I'll fight anyone." K'ahl tossed his ruined cloak in a disposal bin as he walked through the door. This house must have cost a fortune, a home in Watersdeep where one could distinguish between diposal area and street usually does.
K'ahl carefully returned to his small whicker (spell-check?) seat. In the silence he realized that he had not been acting very Elfly this entire visit. He was never called to like humans, but his disdain of them should not be putting on old friend in such positions. He made a mental note to try to act more like himself, if he was to be staying in Watersdeep for a time, he shall need to get used to it. Get used to humans.
He straightened out as best he could in the ass-trap, trying to put away his unease. He looked over the child one more time before focusing his attention on Tirinath. "Tell me old friend, I know that my prior actions help little but, has our friendship from a previous life earned an explanation of this current situation?" He made a subtle gesture toward Cairo. "Of the kid?"

OOC: with regards to Cairo's "odd accent" Rengade, think stereotypical African American youth. As much as I hate stereotypes, with the apparent lack of educational opportunity in Watersdeep, I think that this one would quite suit his scenario.

"Hes just a youngling thief. I look out for him sometimes." Tirinath said, locking the door. "Are you hungry Cairo?"

Gali finds his first demon in the streets.

Gali had been walking around and getting used to the city for a while. He had dropped of his travel gear in the inn, and had a shave and a wash. He used a whet stone to sharpen his hunting dagger and then shaved his head to a bald smoothness.

After changing his clothes he pulled on his travel cloak and walked over to the spear. He pulled a cloth over the spear head.

"You Knowss I cant See thingsss with cloth over the ssspear."

"oh be quiet, I cant go around with the spear showing, I have to look like a warrior returning from travels, now off we go", Gali hummed to himself as he and the spear moved off to find evil. Gali began to sing a Oridian warrior song - full of heart and bas. People gave the giant man a wide berth in the street.

Gali moved without speed through the throng of people going about their daily lives. Suddenly the volume of the singing decreased slightly as the spear began to vibrate. Gali`s eyes darted over the faces around him, someone near to him was his first target. One thing Gali had soon realised is that evil has no set face, it can be found in all places and in all types of faces. Gali leaned against the wall and tried to blend in. He had to wait to see if the feeling past.

Beautiful Tove had taken the bed from the two men and had managed to get herself under the many covers and just took in all of the scent that was Tirinath as she slept the night away and apparently most of the morning. She did eventually wake at the sound of the shouting for the elf man. She didn't want to wake up so she shut her eyes and continued to fight the impending doom that could be called 'getting out of bed'. She heard the men shouting to one another and swore into the covers...

"Men don't think to bring each other inside so they can talk?" She asked as it it was just stupid.

She finally did make it out of the confines that were his bed. The girl made her way downstairs to where they all were and sat down at the table.
