In the early 70s in the bay area, I remember hitch hiking, and I was really young and definitely my parents didn't know, but it was a thing... Never alone with cousins and friends... Sex was not on my mind at 8 years old... Sneakers, candy and hot pants were center of my attention....

Nick had enough of his toxic family. He packed up his beater of a car with his few, simple possessions and drove off into the sunset, never to darken their door again.
Five miles outside of Bakersfield, his Chevy decided it had gone far enough and quit on him. As he stood there, hood open over a dead engine, he heard a car pull to a stop. Candy, Tiffany and Barbie popped out of their Mustang and approached.

I occasionally pick up hitchhikers. Most of them just need lifts to the bus station though.
For ideas:
Hitchhiker’s POV:
Woman was camping with her girlfriend but they had a fight and girlfriend took off as a way to punish her (it’s a toxic relationship). Cell signal is shit and the station is closed so she goes out to the road. She realizes she is in a deep red state so she is terrified but figures she will not make it at the camp site so she tries to hitchhike.
First car she sees is a big ass truck with antlers on it and a shotgun rack. She tries to slip back off the road but the driver pulls up right next to her and in a husky voice tells her to get in.
To her surprise, it’s a very Butch but friendly woman who clocks her immediately but says “gals like us need to look out for each other.” MC is soon spilling her guts and the driver admits she was in some bad relationships too and the best thing to do is to cut ties with them.
They have sex and MC texts her girlfriend that they are through…and when she sends it, she swears she hears a notification coming from the driver’s truck bed. Driver says it’ was just a coincidence and reminds her “sometimes you need to just cut off problems at the head”
