The Hunt (closed)

Rhyanna

Dark was falling quickly and she hadn't seen or heard much happening around her place. So deciding it was semi-safe, she sat out on the porch to watch the night falling.

Her rifle was close by in case, but the peacefulness of the night didn't give her much to fear. She did wonder again why Terry had behaved the way he did earlier. It was a bit confusing.. But then again the 'no sex' rule in the clinic would be good enough reason for a man who had been there long enough to maul any female within reach..

They certainly didn't know each other, he was just feeling normal reactions.. She did this often to herself, its why she chose to stay alone. Insecurities.

She sighed, pushing down the thoughts of her faults and lacking attributes, instead she pulled out her braid and ran her fingers through it..

Tomorrow would come all too soon, and again she would face Terry.. Would he be the same as always? Would she?

"Werewolves.." She gave a little snort of sarcasm and shook her head. Of all the crazy things to believe in.. He was actually working in convincing her of the possibilities.

Inside the group, one could not help but stare at the dark and haunted faces, and not see what could only be described as wanting. It is the look of a worried mother, or lover, watching and waiting for the one they love to finally come home, or the exasperated drawn of a funeral pyre, as the friends and family gather round to forcibly say goodbye to someone they desperately do not want to say goodbye to.
Some twitched, others lay limp, pretending that their muscles had somehow been replaced by some gelatin mold. One man sat in the corner, his chair turned around, his hat turned around, hair uncombed, unwashed, and unkept coming out on all sides. He would occasionally pick his nose, and then, depending on whether or not someone was watching him at the time, pop it into his mouth.
One man, different from all the rest, not just in attire, sat at the rim of the circle, his notepad in hand. He had a GQ pefection that shown through so much of this world, it was scary. This man represented the 90 percent of people who got up in the morning and did something with their lives, brushed their teeth, washed their crotch, put on a tie, put on a smile, and pretended the shit they wallowed in smelled just as fine as cotton candy.
Everyone else here wallowed in shit, and they had known it was shit a long time ago. That is why you take drugs, because for a few seconds, you can stop smelling the shit, and a waft of cotton candy might just catch you on the wind.
For the first time since he had come in here, Terry did not look like he was wallowing in shit.
His routine had been broken, replaced by another one, a much more fantastical one, one he didn't mind so much.
"She's lying on her back, screaming at me," Bill said.
Bill.
Fucking Bill.
Bill raped people.
Not in real life, but in his dreams. He loved to rape people. Ask him this to his face, and he'll deny it, deny it like you just accused him of cutting up little babies in his backyard, but anyone who knew Bill for longer than five seconds, knew Bill liked to rape people. He kept having these dreams, or at least that's what he called them. Ellaborate rape scenes, which he felt every session to describe in such minute detail that by the end even those with the toughest stomaches needed to be excused.
Bill had this gleam in his eye when he told his story, this gleam like he loved the look of everyone else, hearing his story, imagining it in their little heads, drawing on its power. The women most of all.
Terry had laughingly mentioned once if it were possible, he would jack off as he told the story, using the shock on the women's faces as his own personal pallet.
He laughed as he said this, but there was a frightening truth to it that made him stop laughing dead cold.
Group was fucking hell.
But, this morning Terry didn't mind all that much. There was a dull roar that was running through his veins, one that kept all of this shit at bay, and made even hell possible.
"I would tie her up, tight. The ropes whitening the skin around her wrists, her hands growing red."
"Terry," The doctor switched in his position, looking over to the man, who although sat in the circle, was staring out one of the bar windows. Terry didn't move, or acknowledge him.
"You had something interesting happen last night," He was switching subjects, apperently even rehabilitation therapists didn't like rape stories either. They might just be human after all.
"Did I?"
He refused to move, staring out at the gravel road, wondering when she would arrive, hoping it was soon. All eyes, dead and lifeless, like doll eyes, were not focusing on him. They had struggled to find something besides rape to hold onto.
"He had a girl, on his bed. She was doing naughty things to him," One girl, holding a blanket in her arms, giggled with a high girlish giggle.
"You had a visitor?"
Terry felt annoying anger thrull up inside him, but it left just as soon as it rised, like a ship sinking back to its home in the depths. Who cared, he didn't mind anymore. Life was shit, but who cared?
"Uh huh. The park ranger."
"You like her?"
"Yes, I do. We kissed."
"She was sucking him off, naked on his bed. I heard she likes it in the butt."
"Mandy!!"
Bill gave a shocking gasp, "Did she resist?"
Terry shrugged, "I kissed her, but we didn't do anything long enough for her to resist. I don't know, she seemed to like it."
There seemed to be almost a sadness in Bill's sigh.
"You left after that, didn't you Terry? Where'd you go?"
"Out... I had to do some thinking. I do that best when I'm out of this place."
"The nurse said you came back strange."
Terry laughed at this, "Well Doc, I don't know about you, but I wasn't normal coming into this shithole in the first place."
The doctor stopped for a second, gathered himself, and continued.
"You wanna show us your arms, Terry?"
Terry shook his head.
"Fucking shit!"
A young black man threw a coffee cup at the far wall, and dark stains seeped down it, like a slow mud river.
"You didn't use, did you?"
Terry wanted to hide it, deny it, maybe even come up with some sort of excuse. It seemed logical, maybe even reasonable considering his situation, but he could do nothing except shrug once more.
"Once, yeah. I had to think."
"Terry, you've been here, clean, and sober, for two months now. What are you doing? Where did you get it?"
"A friend."
"This same friend who was so friendly?"
Terry felt the anger rise up again, this time it stayed, feeling the pull of the drug, but refusing to yield to it.
"No, I went to town. I knew a guy, he helped me out."
"Why did you feel the need to shoot up, Terry?"
"It hurt too much. I couldn't take it anymore."
"What hurt?"
Terry waved a hand in the air, as if this were the answer.
"I am shocked, Terry, just shocked at your behavior. This whole plan is built on trust, and understanding. You're only here because you want to get better."
Terry jumped to his feet, throwing the chair out from under him. It clattered on the floor, against a wall, and then crashed in the corner. Everyone jumped back, as Terry stood in the middle now, fuming.
"I'm only here cause I'm trying to control something... something I can't control, something I can only barely contain even when I do have this fucking drug inside of me. The only thing stopping me from taking your damned head off right now is the damned drug. Don't tell me about getting clean... I am clean. This is the cleanest I've ever been."
He walked out of group, and into the sunlight.
All in all, he thought he had made a breakthrough.

Rhyanna

She was running late and some how knew Terry would be irritated with her. Everyone was irritated when she ran late. For some odd reason she couldn't manage to do simple things, like keep track of time.

She pulled into the parking area and saw him imediately. He had been waiting, now she'd have to placate him a little.. Sighing, she stepped out of the truck and slowly made her way over to where he stood.

She felt the heat climb into her face again, but refused to give into the feeling. It was only a kiss, she had no reason to fear he'd do it again. She was being an idiot.

"Morning." She called cheerfully. "Good to see you're ready to go." She was being sarcastic. He didn't even have decent hiking boots on. Did he need some? She certainly could get the things for him that were needed.. Or was he changing his mind?

She looked up at his face. He looked composed but something else lingered there in his eyes. What had happened since she left yesterday? She didn't dare even ask, not wanting to hear something bad had happened to him for whatever reason.

"You still up for helping Terry?" She was concerned that perhaps she had pushed things a little too quickly with him. Was he ready to leave the clinic, even for a short time each day, and hunt where ever they needed to?

She felt eyes on her, from the clinic. Someone or some people were watching them. Why? She glanced without turning her head too much and saw a man standing at a large window, staring at her... Or were they staring at Terry? Was it a patient? The Doctor? She pushed it aside and went back to studying her new partner.

Terry gave a happy simple smile, hugging Rhyanna as she came close to him. She smelled so good, like lavender and that good sweat you got in the early morning. He sniffed her hair, keeping her close to him for just a few minutes.
"Hi, I missed you. We have some work to do, don't we? Work. Work. Work."
He laughed, taking out a cigarette, lighting up.
"Where do we go, what do we do, where do we start? You know of a place... I don't know we're doing exactly. Finding werewolves and hunting down murderers. It's scary. You don't have your gun or anything. You want me to protect you?"
He put his arm around her, squeezing her close.
"I can protect you."

Rhyanna

At first she welcomed his hug, although a bit stiffly, but there was something else nagging at her.

Why was he talking so strangely? So quickly? What was that shine in his eyes?

"Terry?" She fumbled for something to say, something that wouldn't set him off?

"Never mind." She dismissed it, not wishing to face unpleasantries. "We should go follow the tracks back to the stream. See what we can find from there. Sound good?"

She pulled herself slowly from his arms, wondering at the welcome still. It was very different than what she was used to..

Why?

She could still feel the eyes watching and it unnerved her even more than Terry's too bright smile.

They followed a small trail, something like a deer trail, small and windy in the forest floor. He followed Rhy, but more importantly followed the trail itself, having known just where it went. He stumbled sometimes, and stooped low, unbalanced. The rough terrain wasn't pleasent for him.
They made it to the stream easy enough, not too far into the woods. The one print in the creekbed was the only proof they had that they were supposed to be here. The smell of the wolf went up further in the creek, but other than that they were lost here.
Terry took a step further, going up the creek, but the rock he stepped on had a nice glean of moss covering it. He slipped, landed hard in the creek, wheeled around for a moment, trying to catch himself. He did, for a moment, move back, but then he overcompensated that as well, and plopped down with his ass right in the water. Everything splashing up around him, rocks, fish, and water, soaking him through.
He laughed at this, dripping wet, this stupid silly grin plastered on his face.
For a moment, he didn't say anything, just looked at Rhy, mischef playing around him.
"Come here," He said, calling to her, "I want to kiss you."
He opened his arms for her, "I want to kiss you right here and now in the mud and water."

Rhyanna

She turned abruptly to see Terry now seated in the water and laughing. Her eyes were wide as she stared only a moment before rushing forward, "Are you alright?" She looked worried he might have hurt himself, despite the laughing.

His offer of a kiss caught her off guard, as much as his sitting half soaked in the stream. She felt a smile tug the corners of her lips upward, "You are without a doubt the craziest man I've ever met." And he was, and it was a compliment.

She shook her head, backing up a step away from the bank, "Oh no, I am not going in there to get soaked as thuroughly as you are." She chuckled as she spied a chunk of moss or something hanging off the knee of his pants.

"You aren't out in the woods often are you?" she debated whether to offer her hand to him to help him up, wondering if she did, would he pull her in too?

Terry got up, water dripping off of him into the cold creek that ran through the Colorado rockies. He walked to her, that smile glued to him.
"I want you, Rhyanna. I wanted you yesterday, but we were... interrupted. And, I couldn't. It was too hard to control everything, to hard to stop what I wanted to do."
He came forward, walking slow and steady, careful of the rocks now.
"I wanted to do so many things. But I couldn't... cause I didn't know what I was going to do. But, everythings changed last night. I changed. I got some help, I took some special medicine. I can control it now... and now, i want you. I want to do all those things I couldn't do yesterday."

Rhyanna

"I want you, Rhyanna. I wanted you yesterday, but we were... interrupted. And, I couldn't. It was too hard to control everything, to hard to stop what I wanted to do." He moved towards her, almost looked as if he was stalking her, stalking his prey.

She gulped down a lump in her throat, eyes going even wider as she backed up a few steps. What could she say? His words tumbled out, catching her so off guard, she didn't know how to respond.

"I wanted to do so many things. But I couldn't... cause I didn't know what I was going to do. But, everythings changed last night. I changed. I got some help, I took some special medicine. I can control it now... and now, i want you. I want to do all those things I couldn't do yesterday." He stood only a foot or so from her, and kept coming.

She had that 'doe in the headlights' look, her hands coming up instantly, palms out to stop his progress.

"W-wait!" She licked her lips, trying franticly to make some sense out of this whole situation. "B-but you don't even know m-me Terry." She was totally confused. Not scared, but lost. This was all so strange, sudden..

She inhaled deeply, and with it his scent. He smelled wild, he looked even wilder than he smelled. There was an over all need shining in his eyes, but was it for her? Or was it for anything female?

Emotions tugged her in two directions. One was to give in, one was to figure out why. Her fingertips brushed against his wet shirt and she felt her mouth go dry.

They had work to do! What was he thinking?!

Ok, he made her nervous. This wasn't typical guy behavior.. or was she a twit?

"What is there to know," He came up, his wet body wrapping around her, holding her close, taking in her scent. Sex, dripping wet and wonderful came to him, fueled him on.
"You're Rhyanna, you and here, with me. I can't take my eyes... or my hands off of you. Why do we need to know anything more."
He moved down, pulling the hair out of his way, and kissing her neck, nibbling at the taste of her skin, her warm hot skin. The hairs on his back stood up.
"I can smell sex on you, all over you. Just like yesterday, but it's more potent now. Or, I'm more potent. Maybe the drug is running its course, and I can taste better now. Yeah, it usually wears off about this time. Heroin lasts a long time in your system, but the effects are mostly gone after a day or two."
Yes, he could smell it now, things coming back to him, words, sounds, voices, all of them collaging together. he loved the whole effect it had on him. He needed her out here, in the forest.
"Lay down with me, love me. Take me as I take you. Please, I need you, I'm begging for you."

Rhyanna

"H-Heroine?" She stammered, her body going liquid hot in seconds as his lips trailed over her neck. A total weak spot and he seemed to know that?

"You took... But Terry!" She pushed away from him, turning around to face him with a stern stare. "You are in that clinic to stop taking that stuff..." She fumbled sadly for something to say, something that wouldn't make him angry.. But it did offend her, offended her greatly.

What? He couldn't get the nerve to do anything without drugs coursing through his system? What kind of relationship would that be?

"We best get to tracking..." She started across the stream, unsure really what she could do to help him when he was supposed to be helping her.

"If anything did happen Terry... I'd want you sober, not lost in illusions." She said in a small voice as she cleared her way to the other side of the stream.

"No," the sound came out sad, and pitiful, as if he had just missed the only chance in the world. For a moment, his hands fell, and he stood there, a child with his head down.
Then, anger boiled through him.
"No!" He stopped her, grabbing her arms and pulling her back, "No, it's not that. It's nothing like that. I just have to control something, and now it's controlled. See."
He held out his hand, and it was straight as an arrow, dead center. Not even shaking slightly.
"I'm good now. I'm in control, I'm in center, and I know what I want. I know what you want too. Don't deny it. We can just lay down, we can just forget it all."
He kissed her, hard, forcing his lips on her.
"Please, for me."

Rhyanna

She regained her senses about her, a little dizzy from being yanked back against him. What game was he playing at? She felt herself stiffen, unsure, wary of what he would do to her..

They were alone out here, no one around to protect her, No way to protect herself.

She let him turn her around to face him, his pleading words breaking through her stiff exterior and stabbing into her heart. She felt his pain, she could see it plainly in his eyes.

He did want her..

But was wanting enough? And she had yet to become comfortable around him. He had to get some control back, even though he thought he had it, he didn't.

Her hands reached up and cupped his face, her eyes holding his as she pushed him back from his forced kiss.

"Terry. Terry! Look at me." She got his attention, her fingers curling against his temples a moment as she stared up at him.
"I won't deny it.. But I need time." She could see the denial in his face the moment the words were out of her mouth.

"Yes, Terry. I know how you feel, I can see it. Hell almost feel it. But I need time to know you.. You to know me." She flushed a little, with embarassment and need. She had control of herself, and she knew that this was just too soon. She wouldn't be used this way.

She gave him a quick kiss and backed away, but only a step. She wasn't denying him or his needs. She wasn't denying her own either, but she needed more time.

For a loner, to become accustomed to someone else, and so soon? It would take time. "Tell me more about yourself while we walk.. Please?" She prompted him to speak about himself.. Distract him from this lust he felt inside and mostly to let him know she wasn't rejecting him.

Good lord, relationships were complicated enough as it were, she avoided them.. but this was much more than typical. Never ever dealt with lust before.

Terry leapt at her, a gutteral growl prancing at his lips. The drug had surpassed his system, adding to the fire now, not supressing it. He had caught the one spot where he wanted nothing more than that low thought in his mind. Sex was drumming inside him, and he needed it, right now.
He forced her under him, on top of her, his hands holding hers at bay.
But he stopped...
The air grew cold, sudden. Tipid. He shuddered, getting low to the ground, inches away from Rhyanna's face. His nose already was catching the subleties of the forest.
He could smell fear under him, but couldnt' do anything about that now.
Wolf... bad wolf.
He could smell it. Not a pack, not a rabid loner. What they were looking for. It was here it was in here with them...
And it was looking for them.
He had to leave, he had to get her out of here.
"Get up," He said, pulling her to her feet, forcing her into an awkward run, "No time to explain. We need to go now... Run, run for your life... and whatever you hear, don't look back."
He was behind her heels, hoping that smell didn't come closer. If it did, he'd have to stop, and take care of it, make sure it never touched Rhy. He had to protect her now...
They were in the territory of the monster.
And Terry wasn't the only one driven by lust.

Rhyanna

She about wet herself when he pounced. He fucking growled at her! Her body made contact with the hard ground, knocking the wind from her lungs with a loud whooshing sound.

She gasped, trying to catch her breath as she saw stars. Panic had yet to seize her when he stopped.

Thank you god!

He yanked her up as if she weighted nothing and pushed her, his voice carrying a note of pure horror. He told her to run?

"Run?" She managed to croak out, totally confused by his behavior. He shoved her forward, her feet nearly tripping on themselves before she caught herself and did as he instructed.

She ran. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Not to the clinic though, her home was closer. She feared Terry, she feared him so much that she was close to hysterics.. Close to screaming, venting that panic.. But she couldn't afford to, not now.

So she lept over the stream, heading south west, heading for her home which should be within a half mile distance. She could hear her foots thudding against the ground, Something.. Most likely Terry thundering through the brush behind her...

This gave her feet wings and she moved even faster than before. Running hell bent to escape whatever demons were haunting him, making him into some monster.

Relief flooded through her as she hit the steps of her cabin, rushed inside and went right for her rifle.

There was a fight in the woods. Even the birds took notice, flying away to other parts, other trees, somewhere safer. Large growls, howls, hoots, even shouts that at times seemed human emerged.
Crying, mewling, an occasion snap of jaws. Barking, brawling. It sounds at times like two mountains lions that were after each other, and at other times like a horrendous car wreck.
After a few minutes, the sounds stopped, just cut off. There was a cry of pain, and then the woods, more or less, returned to normal.
An eerie silence followed, for twenty minutes. Nothing moved, nothing stood, nothing even poked an inch from their hole, to see what had happened.
Then, finally, like golden velvet, a large dark wolf limped out of the treeline. Blood flowed freely from him, a piece of his fur torn from the side, and red meat could be seen exposed. One paw hung up in his chest, while the other three hopped and limped to compensate.
Large green speckled eyes watched the small shack, for signs of life, before it plopped to the ground, with little more than a bark.
The drug, that seemed almost lost in his system now that this had taken over, had prevented him from fighting well. It had lagged him, stopped him, and supressed the animal that wanted to tear the enemy piece from piece.
It resented him for that, hated him. Terry could feel the blood inside him make war with whatever was left of the drug. It was gone, an animalistic detox.
His eyes were sweaty, and couldn't focus. He saw the house, and the surrounding forest, but little else. For the moment, running fighting, pulling out every stop, he just needed to breath, catch up with himself.
He was dying.
And all he wanted to do was sleep.

Rhyanna

The sounds were horrifying. There was a fight going on.. Was it Terry? She gulped down her lump of fear and peeked out into the yard.

Terry wasn't there.

"Oh god!" She stammered, unsure now what to do.

There was a wolf out there, and it sounded like it was tearing apart something? Was it Terry? Was Terry attacking the wolf? Was it something else? Why had he told her to run? More importantly, how did he know there was danger? Did he see the wolf?

Her eyes closed, her breasts rose and fell rapidly. Her anxiety was wearing her down, so many worries causing a road block in her mind.

She peeked out again, only to hear a loud howl of pain.

"Oh god. Oh god oh god oh god!" She gasped, fear creating all sorts of things in her mind. Horrible disgusting, bloody things.

Was Terry ripped limb from limb? It was no less than what he deserved for attacking her like that.. but he hadn't hurt her.. not really. But the intention was there..

Was that wolf back? Was that why he told her to run? Did he see her guardian in the forest? Is that what was happening?

It took her a moment to realize all noise had suddenly stopped. The stillness, the lack of sounds.. It was all reeking of fear. Confusion. Why had it stopped? Was Terry dead? Was the wolf dead?

She huddled with her back to the door, gun in her hand, eyes squeezed tightly shut. Her heart hammered loudly, but there was no cry from Terry.. No sound. The lack of sound disturbed her.

She took deep breaths, working at calming herself. Willing her self to peek outside once more. She didn't want to, she knew she wouldn't see anything. The sounds were too far away for her to see anything!

She moved an inch, stopped, breathed deeply, moved yet again. Her eyes landed first on the lacey white curtain, a tree in her peripheral vision blurry but there. Slowly her eyes turned to the tree line, nothing seemed to be there...

Then she saw the black lump on the ground, not more than five feet from her front door.

"Jesus!" The blood was seeping across the ground, slowly, but building a puddle none the less. It was wounded..

It came to her.

Why?

"Why?" She whispered aloud. Did she dare go out there? It was wounded, she could see it's ribs barely moving..
"Barely breathing.."

Did she chance it? Fear spurred her on as she threw open the door and fired one shot into the air..

Not even a twitch of movement from the wolf. It still lay there, struggling to breathe. Was it out? Had it no sense of preservation? Didn't it sense the danger around humans? Around her home? The scents she knew would warn any wild animal with a brain away..

She bit her lip, torn between helping and waiting it out. Let nature take it's course or save the very thing that could take her life..

"This is just.. just too god damned much!" She swore viscously, the unfairness of it all swamped her and her eyes began to tear up. She hated choices like these, she really did.. Because there was no choice!

She put her rifle down and grabbed her medical bag sitting near by. She eyed the wolf.. She knew for certain this is the same beast that saved her life just last night. She couldn't let it die, even though she might.

She gave him chances to run though. She made a shit load of noise as she moved towards him. Stomping on the ground as she went, pausing, looking and waiting before proceeding once more.

It seemed to take forever to reach the wolf, but merely a minute. She hoped it would be dead by the time she got there, he wasn't.. Life was beginning to become insanely surreal.

Taking out a needle, she injected the wolf with pain killer. Her eyes studying carefully, finding the vein and administering the much needed drug. The pain would make anyone scream.. Only this poor wolf couldn't.

She eyed the gash in his side.. The tearing of flesh and flinched. It still labored to breathe, it's eyes barely open, watching her.. Or so it seemed.

"Easy boy... I won't hurt you." She felt uneasy, afraid, but she made herself calm down and made herself stroke his fur as soothingly as possible.

Wild animal's couldn't be trained.. Couldn't be tamed. She had to remember that.

She pulled out a make shift wrapping and managed to get a bandage over his wound. She'd have to get him inside.. and that meant getting a gurney and getting him onto it.

She moved quickly, getting the gurney and something to lure him onto it.. What would she use? It's not like she could ask it to get on. She grabbed some dried meat and took it with her.
Setting the bed down on the ground, she secured the wheels and waved the jerky before his nose.

"Come on.. Follow the scent." She willed the animal to listen, to hear her.. to move. She couldn't very well pick it up. She tried for five minutes, still nothing.

"Damn you!" She swore in frustration again and violently threw the jerky. "Get up on the fucking bed before you die!" She all but growled herself, her hands rubbing up and down her face in frustration.

Funny sounds and strange sights. The wolf growled, his hair raising, but Terry stopped that in its tracks. She was going to help, whether it was with the gun or something else. She would help, she had to.
Right now, she was the only one who could.
He laid there, his giant tongue come out, on the ground, breathing with a heavy panting that seemed to never be enough.
It wasn't until she brought out a gurney he even felt the need to move.
He was happy enough to stay there, his muscles like it, needed it. No more moving, no more pausing. Just a nice place to lay down and die.
No, she needed to help him, and for a moment, he realized he needed to help her too. That thing was still out there, wounded, but still out there. It would come for Rhyanna, if there were ever a need to keep going, it was for her.
With a lazy bark, directed more at the woman than anything else, he gathered up his strength, what little was left, and made a half jump, half hop onto the gurney.
It wasn't good, and part of him still dangled off to the side, but his strength was gone. He was gone.
Conciousness folded in and out. He turned, licking her hand once, before slipping into a deep sleep that the medicine helped him go into.
The welcomed darkness greeted him, taking away the pain, at least momentarily.

Ten Hours Later..

Night had come and gone, dawn was approaching quickly and every bone in her body was weary and worn.

She had done all she could for the wolf. But was it enough? Did she want it to be enough? She was too tired now to worry, the surgery took longer than she'd liked.

She had to constantly hook up IV's with synthetic blood, stitch and clean, stitch some more. She had to keep cleaning the wound, he bled so damned much she went through three pints of blood for one animal.

The wolf was too large for any cages or Kennels she did have, so she left him on the gurney, clean now with much effort and put it on the floor. Now all she could do was wait and see, and definitely hope.

Again she asked herself why she wanted to hope for it's recovery? Was it because it saved her life? Because it licked her hand like a pup would? Mostly because it was her sworn oath.. She'd see it as nothing more than that. Doctors took their oaths seriously. Be it human patient or animal.

She washed up, slowly, moving like a woman twice her age around the small cabin.. It wasn't small until she brought in that wolf. Now it seemed to crowd her..

She looked at the barred door longingly. She wanted to go outside, get some air. But the angry howls and growls coming from just beyond the trees was warning enough. Something was out there... waiting for her.

Was it Terry? No. It was a wolf, the sounds were too real to be faked.. But where was Terry?

She injected the wolf with morphine, checking to make sure the chain was firmly attached to his new collar. He wouldn't be able to reach her if he could move... It would be a few days though before he could even wake... Unless this wolf was one lucky animal..

"Werewolf indeed.." She shook her head and laid down on the couch. Her rifle was by the side, resting on the floor just incase. She had locked up tightly, barring herself inside but was it enough to keep whatever was out there from gaining entry? She hoped so....

This is how she spent the next twelve hours. Asleep. She would wake now and then to noises, but nothing threatening enough to rouse herself. She was worn out still...

The next morning however she was up early, sitting at the table with a black hot cup of coffee to greet her with a loving embrace. She checked her wolf already, administering less morphine than before and changing it's bandages. It had yet to wake up, but it clung to life.

Her journals were before her as well as her grandfather's. She needed to find something written in here to give a wolf.. food wise anyway.. Something with healing abilities. She studied the pages and sipped her coffee.. She needed a bath but did not want to go outside alone.. She could still feel eyes on her, whether it was her imagination or not, it was enough to keep her close to home and mostly inside.

Rhyanna

Another day came and went and still no word from Terry. She'd have to call the clinic and ask about him, make sure he was alright, but later..

She was putting it off, that's exactly what she was doing.

She had lessened the morphine considerably, wanting it to wake up and become aware.. make sure it was alright. Only trouble was whether or not it would attack out of fear?

A ittle infection was found and easily taken care of with antibiotics. She had a well stocked pantry full of animal goodies.. She had wolves after all and as all wild animals do, they fight. So this one was lucky when it crashed in her front yard..

"Hi here handsome.." She said softly, smiling, willing herself to relax as she moved closer and sank to her knees. She crawled across the floor slowly, placing the bowl down as soon as she reached the chain limit. She pushed them forward, towards the wolf. "hungry?"

Everyone knows they can't talk back, but it was told and she firmly believed that a soothing tone would help keep him calm.. It's how men were with horses, with all pets.. Granted this wasn't a pet, but she thought it couldn't hurt.

She was just about to check his wound again when a loud knocking came at her front door. Her door rattled a little and then she heard Roger.

"Rhy? Ya home?"

She looked down at the wolf once then hurried towards the door. Peeking out she didn't allow him in, too worried about blocking his view of the wolf.

"Good morning Sheriff. Can I help you?" She smiled, her heart hammering hard in her chest. She was very much aware what would happen if Roger seen that wolf.

"Yeah, I just came. There's been a report filed on a missing persons. Terry McMullin?" He eyed her, watching her closely for her reaction.

"Terry?" She gasped a little, her eyes wide as she stared at the Sheriff. "When did he come up missing?"

"Mind if I come in?" He stepped forward but she kept the door tight to her side, her look was clearly a "no."

"Afraid not Sheriff. I have a wounded animal in here and I don't need him frightened.."
"What animal?"
"A.. A fawn.." She gave a weak smile, her fingers tightening on the wood so much she felt slivers sink into her fingertips.
"Oh.. ok. Well." He peeked over her shoulder as she shifted feet, catching a glimps of black fur.. He covered his surprise very well, never saying a word, but eyeing her harder. Why was she lying to him? "Have you see.. uh.. Mr. McMullin?"
"Not for a few days Sheriff. We parted ways and I haven't had time to go back and see him."

The Sheriff nodded, but he didn't believe her completely. She lied about the animal inside.. Deer didn't have fur. So was she lying about Terry?

"Well Rhy.. If you see him, let us know? The people up at the clinic are worried something happened.."
"I'd check the city if I was you." She ground out, her voice going tight with her anger.
"Why the city?"
"That's where he went three nights ago. He didn't tell me what for, but he went into Denver."
The sheriff looked at her for a long moment, seemingly going to say something more but didn't. Instead he smiled and tipped his hat to her, "Good day Rhy and do be careful with that fawn." He strolled out of sight around her house and towards the driveway.

Sagging with relief, she waited at the door for sign that he was leaving.

However the Sheriff didn't walk to his car, he walked to the 'op room' window sitting just over his head. Glancing around, he gripped the window ledge and placed his foot against the logs for support. He lifted himself, an inch at a time, feeling the strain in his legs and feet not to slip off.
His eyes barely peeked over the ledge when he heard Rhyanna beside him, "Can I assist you in breaking into my home Roger?"
With a yelp he slipped off, he managed to land on his feet, his hand shooting out to grab at the logs.
"I wasn't breaking in!" He huffed.

She didn't comment, but stood there firmly with her hands folded under her breasts, her brows cocked. She didn't believe him, she knew what he was doing. But why? Had he seen something?
"What is in my clinic is my business Roger and you are on private lands. And I can tell you right now Terry is not in my house, I don't let in drug users.. I'm not stupid."
She bristled a little at her tone, but he understood her and knew she liked her privacy. He did feel a little guilty for spying, but it was his damned job!
"Just call if you see him."
"I will Roger."
"Oh the doc down at the clinic seems to think.. you're providing Terry with..." He flushed as her face went red with fury.
"Drugs?" She finished for him as he stood looking at the ground, obviously rocks became very interesting to him at that moment..

By the time he finally woke up, every part of him ached. Muscles tightened, like rusty springs, coiling up into their positions. Something hard jabbed into his back, he tried to ease it away, but it stayed there, like a hot poker, driving through him.
He howled at the pain, asking, pleading it to go away. He leaned heavily to one side, misjudging the distance and crashing into a tray of medical supplies. They poured over him, something very heavy pounding on his head.
Terry snarled, snapped, growled at nothing in particular, maybe his own stupidity. He tried to get his vision back, walking towards the center of the room.
Something stopped him. He felt the sharp yank of the chain around him. For a moment, he pulled harder, thinking it was just a tangle, but then metal clanged against metal.
He barked, three times, one after the other, growling, pulling back, biting into the chain.
It was no use.
He yanked successively, but his strength was not full, and he did little more than make a horrendous amount of noise.
Terry ran to one side of the room, in a wide arc, following the length of the chain. It grew taut against the gurney and suddenly spilled over. Terry yipped in surprise, jumping up, but his unsure feet, and groggy brain made him more than not fall flat on his face, in a massive tumble of pained fur and legs.
This was not going well at all.

Rhyanna

"What in hell was that?!" Roger jumped at all the racket inside as well as barks and howls.
"What?" She gave him a blank look, glancing around outside to see what he was talking about? Inside she was furious and completely lost at how to explain all this away...
"You know exactly what I am talking about Rhyanna Light!"
"Oooooooh.. You mean Cuddles?" She gave a bright smile as if it was nothing worth mentioning.
"Cuddles? What in god's name is Cuddles?" She moved backwards as the Sheriff came forward, apprently he thought he was going to go inside her home..
"My..dog!" She smiled a little more uneasily.
"Since when did you have a dog? You told me you were healing a fawn." He got nose to nose with her, daring her almost.

What could she do?

She lied.

"I am! Jesus, you act like I am a criminal Roger!"

"Well you lied to me-"
"No I didn't! I am healing a fawn and my dog is .. inside as well."
"That's alot of noise for a dog."
"Well... He's.. He's a big dog... I just got him two nights ago.. He was.. He had been umm bitten and wandered here.. And I took him in." She flushed hotly, unsure now what to do exactly with this whole situation.
He stepped around her, moving for her front door where she dodged back in his path to stop him.
"Move aside Rhyanna.."
"No!"
"Move aside right now Rhy, don't make me ..." He sighed then jumped as another loud sound came from within the house.
"You.. You can't go in there.." She thought franticly, trying to find some reason to keep him out.. but what?
"You want to be placed under arrest?" He was threatening her now. She felt like crying and slapping him both at the same time. She was losing ground here, and fast!
"F-for w-what charge?" She stammered hauntily, raising her chin up in defiance.
"Obstruction of justice! For one!" He pushed her aside and stepped into the cabin..

It was painful, taking him several minutes. His shoulder screamed, afire with medicine and stimulated bandages. He could feel stitches popping, as the fur turned slowly into pink flesh.
Terry laid there, unsure what to do, where he was even. What had happened? He could feel the after taste of something in his system.
A blanket, among pills and bottles, lay on the floor, he took it, wrapping himself up in it.
"Obstruction of justice! For one."
Terry made a weak smile, but he couldn't muster up anything else. He just sat upright, leaning against the far wall, and cuddlnig the blanket as if it were some safety.
"Sherriff... hello," He coughed once, "You wouldn't believe me if I told you." He laughed once at this joke, trying not to look at Rhy as she came in.
Rhyanna's house. He was there. He was here, and the sheriff.
Oh my god!
Did? Did something happen? What did they see?
From the look on Rhy's face, she had seen something... more than something. He furrowed his brow, wondering what they'd do to explain this now.
"I hope I'm not under arrest or anything."

Rhyanna

She was prepared to jump infront of Roger to protect him at any costs when she heard Terry's voice coming from the room.

Everything tilted as her head peeked around the door frame to see a very naked, thank god for the blanket, Terry leaning against the wall..

She gaped, her eyes wide, thinking she was definitely going to faint this time.. He had the collar.. around his..

No. No no NO! She's seeing things..

Roger gaped a moment, totally shocked by what he was seeing. His eyes swung to Rhyanna and then back to Terry.

"Uh.. Rhy? Care to explain this?" It looked to him like these two were playing in a little BDSM scene in her operating room.. But certainly...

"Roger?" She mimiced his tone, or thought she had but her voice squeaked. She blinked a few times, everything was still spinning out of control around her..

"Is it hot in here?" She mumbled weakly, moving on shakey legs to a chair to sit down. She had to think and think fast... But what in god's name was she going to say?!

"What is going on Rhyanna? You said you hadn't seen Terry and we find him here.. You ok Terry? Was she holding you here against your will?" He moved towards Terry, then realized Terry could easily remove the collar from around his neck..

Roger flushed hotly, his suspicions were confirmed.. They were playing some weird sex game!

"Never mind.. Excuse us a minute." He turned and walked into the little kitchen area looking down at Rhyanna's bent head.

"Well?" His voice held an edge of impatience, he was irritated with her. She kept lying and lying..

But where did the wolf go? How did Terry get in there? Certainly she wasn't seeing what she was seeing.. because if she was seeing what she was seeing then he was what he shouldn't be and was impossible and he lied to her..

"What? Oh.. Terry.. um Yeah. We're dating. He needed a few days away.. It is a voluntary clinic Roger." She glared at him, or tried to. The shock was just too damned great to her system to comprehend any of this.

"You could go to Jail Rhy for lying. Even if it was something as simple as .. Well.." He eyed her and turned back to Terry. His head shaking, he didn't know what to do here. How could he explain all this without the whole department laughing their asses off for months? Bring her in for lying to him, it was a minor charge really with a fine. But what would be the point? Other than a healthy respect for the law!

"I'm sorry Roger.. I'm just... it's.." She fell silent, she had no real explanation and to tell the truth would confirm she saw what she did and Roger would surely think she was nuts!

Terry tried to say something to Rhy, to explain it, to take away that fear and shock that seemed to take her over completely. He wanted to apologize, but he couldn't... not without freaking her out even more.
Or, getting the sheriff involved.
"I'm sorry," he said, looking at her, truly those words hitting home with him.
"Sheriff, I'm sorry. Rhyanna lied cause of me. I think she didn't want me to go to jail. You know, I'm at the rehab clinic, and a few nights ago, I relapsed."
He stood up, shaking off the horrible feeling that swept over him. What had she done to him?
What had he done to her?
"I was spending the night here, trying to live it off. She had some drugs that would take care of it. I didn't want to keep that shit in my system. It's gone now, thanks to her."
He shrugged, "She thought you would take me to jail or something. If you feel you have to, I understand, but don't take Rhy. She didn't understand. She was just trying to protect someone..."
he looked at her, "Someone she likes."
