Its a beautiful day here. I would love nothing more than to be taken out for lunch in a restaurant overlooking the sea; a glass of wine and some good conversation :)

Instead I've mowed three lawns and am about to start on the weeding and pruning. Yay! :D

Yup, I got itchy feet today.

Irish coffee is still coffee, so it's a perfectly reasonable beverage for breakfast. Right?

Note to self: I need to stay out of touch with my sister. If dealing with her makes me want to have alcohol for breakfast, she probably counts as toxic influence.

In 13 minutes it will officially be Mother's Day in my time zone. Today was awesome with this little cobbled together, oddball family of mine... My girls and me, Twitch's sister and her niece... A really good day with people I love and a very good friend. The only thing missing was my own mom, who is at home.

A great day. And yet a part of my brain kept pointing out what I've heard far more people say than I'd like to admit: "It's not really Mother's Day for you, though, because you're not really a mother. You know, because you didn't have them or adopt them or anything."

Yeah. Sometimes the stupidity of it makes me scoff. Sometimes it makes me angry. Days like today - days where I know that the girls are learning what family really means... the days where we make the good memories that last a lifetime... The stupidity of such asinine remarks make me tired and heart sore.

It may be a rag-tag little family that's bound by hearts instead of genes and it might be considered out of the ordinary... but it's extraordinary, too. My girls are extraordinary. And if that means I'm not a "real mom" in some people's eyes then I'll take being a pretend mom any day of the week.

Happy Mother's day to one and all.

I would not even bother wasting my time letting comments like that affect me or I would politely tell them to build a bridge and jump off it.

The most important part is that YOU feel you are their mother and that they feel the same way, how others view that relationship should never affect how you feel about this.

You are the person that they will remember as having been their for birthdays, weddings, relationship advice, wipe up tears, arguments, forgivness, putting band aids on cuts and scrapes, helping with homework and the millions of other things mothers do.

It will be your picture with them on family holidays, special occassions and milestones in ther lives in the all important family photo album and you they go to for help and support.

My brother is adopted and I have heard people ask my mother if she loves him less because he is adopted she just rolled her eyes and said no but I like you less for asking such an ignorant question.

lol - thank you for the unquestionable support!

It usually doesn't bother me much. Some people are idiots - that's just a part of life. I worry sometimes, though, that after a day like today, a day where they finally had the success of making good memories and the monumental success of being able to emotionally handle it, that some asshat will open their mouth and make a comment like that in front of the girls. No one needs to tell them by implication or otherwise that their emotional connection isn't real. Not after they've worked so hard and stepped so far out of what they know to find that connection.

*shrugs*
I'm doing the mom job. Sometimes it's only for a few weeks. Sometimes it's for years. I have the possibility of it being forever with Bug and maybe even the blessing of getting to watch Twitch in her final years before adulthood. I can only hope that I've given all of my girls something positive to take with them for the rest of their lives no matter the time in my home. And whether they know it or not, each of them will always hold a place in my heart - no matter what they call or consider me.

Quoted for truth.

Okay, that's it. I've been in bed with bronchitis for TEN DAYS now! Save the one day I said to myself, "I can't take it anymore, I'm going to work, I have to get out of this house, maybe being up and about will actually HELP." I went to work, felt like CRAP, and woke up the next morning with pink eye.

So, now that I'm actually on antibiotics and feeling better than I was that day, I'm tempted again to say, "No more. I'm done with being sick. I am officially WILLING my body to get stronger again. Imma get up early, do some yoga, I am GOING to WORK, and I WILL function today."

Do y'all think that's a good idea? Healing power of positive thinking? I am usually a firm believer in sweating the damn virus out on the treadmill, but this illness is a whole different ball game. Should I suck it up and DECIDE I'm better? Or am I just setting myself up to come home tomorrow with...I don't know...typhoid fever? The plague? Consumption? Leprosy?

I'm so sick of being sick!

If you're contagious, stay home.

There is indeed some healing power in positive thinking. Yoga and the treadmill can both be a good idea, whether or not you go to work.

Practical consideration: how many un-interrupted sick days are necessary for your Long Term Illness insurance to kick in (assuming your employer provides that benefit)?

Also: don't forget the healing power of chicken soup.

You go girl. *hugs*

Oh, and happy mothers day.

I'm scared I'm getting my period, and hoping willpower alone will delay it.

It can't be this week! That would mean that there's only been 2 weeks in between. Stupid cycle.

I second the previous statement...don't go if you're contagious. You'll just make other people sick. Not to mention that it's really easy to push yourself back into work too hard and relapse. I did that when I had pneumonia. I think yoga and functioning is a good idea, but think carefully about going to work :)

Smart ass.

Flatterer.

What's up with me, so people won't worry why I'm not on as much:

Good luck with everything you've got on your plate, Gracie. Your kids are lucky to have you.

Fuck 'em, chy.

And what I'mOnIt said. Even though he never called me.

Damn, subish.

I remember my grandfather having bronchitis that stuck around forever. I just googled it, and good ol' Doc Wiki says that it usually resolves in "a few weeks." No mention of treadmill therapy, though.

RE: Bronchitus

I get it every year, some times twice a year, since I was 3 years old. My advice: stay home and rest.

Bronchitus lives in the lungs and if you over exurt yourself you can cause some damage there. And you know, I kinda like to breath, so I use all my mind powers and sleep for two days.

If you rest and let the virus work it's way out, it will go away faster than if you push yourself. I know some viruses respond to "sweating it out" but in my experience this one doesn't.

Why is it impossible to find a pair of boots this season with a decent heel on them? They are all totally flat, well except for the $500 pair that I quite liked.

Some of us are short and we neeeeeeeed that little bit of extra height so people see us instead of standing on us.

*praying to the boot god to find that perfect pair before winter really sets in*

I'm a little teapot,
Short and stout,
Here is my handle,
Here is my spout,
When I get all steamed up,
Hear me shout,
Tip me over and pour me out!

How come when the forecast says "partly cloudy" it's actually "mostly cloudy"? How hard is it to be accurate? How hard is it to pick the right adverb? It's almost like the weather person is a sadistic bastard who likes getting our hopes up for some sunshine, only to bash it. If I don't see blue skies by this evening, I'm going to refuse to read the weather report ('cause I can't think of anything more dramatic to do in protest).

And I might even pout although I'm not prone to pouting. No, actually, I'm going to scowl. I'm good at scowling.

Reminds me of the time when I had to shovel five inches of "partly cloudy" from my driveway last January.
