We had a staff meeting last week, followed by brunch. My coworkers spent FOURTY-FIVE MINUTES discussing the latest episode of some show called Celebrity Rehab. The dammed "Real Housewives" whatevertheyare shows are a topic of daily duscussion. As are the entire (trashy trainwreck) Kardashian clan.
Today it was a 30 minute conversation about if you could believe/trust this or that character from a TV law show. As in "OMG I really like so-and-so. I mean you can tell she is one smart cookie! Can you believe she has such a hard time finding a man?" WTF?

And there I sit, thinking Christonacupcake people! The political season is gearing up, Africa is experiencing massive famine, there are riots in London, the S&P just downgraded our financial standing, and there are newspapers and books full of interesting subjects... And all y'all want to discuss is how horrible XYZ court TV case was, and how disgusting it is somebody is getting a book deal out of the verdict??? (I pointed out the high ratings from people watching/following/obsessing over the trial contributed to the financial viability to support a boom deal... And was told I didn't know what I was talking about. :rolleyes: )

Actually a pretty decent show about addiction/recovery with Dr. Drew Pinsky. Sorry, I watch anything on TV that portrays alcoholism/addiction as the evil it really is, no matter if it is "celebrities" or not.

I don't watch either, honestly. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy my occasional NCIS episode, but I miss them regularly because I forget it's on or I'm not in the mood to watch TV or I'm busy.

And reality TV really annoys me - too much drama. It's like high school all over again. :eek:

We have all been there. Don't beat yourself up over it. Perhaps in this case saying something would be like beating your head against a cement wall anyway...;)

Right. Which is why you have two choices actually, fight for the fighting's sake or ignore it as best you can. Which one I pick depends on the day and my mood at the moment. :rolleyes:

I always take the latter route. The walls always take the former route. And then they have their own little Mutual Admiration Society and say the rest of us are horrible people. *sigh*

Have you ever watched old episodes of The Muppet Show??? Remember Statler and Waldorf up in the balcony??? Yeah...that's what I think of when I "see" the walls and the M. A. S.

That I can understand.

What I can't understand is the gossipy, minute by minute discussion of another persons misery (or demonds) as a form of entertainment. The same person who obsessively talks about that show, spent two months talking about some show about someone going through a sex change. Every.Damn.Day. it was "oh my stars! And she decided she was a MAN! I mean acutally is sick in the head enough to believe she's a MAN! Her poor mother! You're a mother! Wouldn't that destroy you to know your child was that sick in the head?" (Nope. All I care about is my childrens emotional well being, health and happiness. I could give a rats ass what their orientation is.) "OMG! You don't know what you're saying! I mean the woman turned herself into a MAN! Its too disgusting!"

And now I'm trying to have a conversation with a someone who doesn't realize how much I know about the subject...I don't want to come off like a smarty pants, but I know a little more about it than she does...I should go to BED.
