If someone theoretically is being far more scattered than usual, and theoretically manages to leave her cell phone outside, which theoretically stays outside until she realizes (10 minutes into a really huge thunderstorm) that she left it outside, and the thingie shows it has a full charge and bars showing it's still getting signal, but you can't hear any beepy noises when you push a button, and calling voicemail was met with silence, does that mean the cell phone just has to dry out and there is yet hope? Or does it mean the cell phone is toast?

Not that I would know anyone who did any of the above... just sayin'...

It's starting to dry out, and I can get a really faint tone when I push buttons, and then a kind of static-y noice, so I'm going to let it keep drying out... this scattered distracted brain thing is not something I'm used to...

Give it some time to dry - there is a chance it could short out if you keep messing with it while it is wet.

yup hairdryer works well - I know somebody who has dropped their cell in the toilet a couple times (ie my scatterbrained daughter) and it worked after it got dried out. Good luck CM!

I've dropped my cell in the toilet, fished it out immediately and it still works after drying out for about 3 days. However, an earlier phone didn't survive a drunken 10 minute swim in the Pacific (while in my pocket) even after drying out.

I blow dried it a bit, and can hear the earpiece very faintly when it's pressed tight up against my ear, so I'm sure it will dry all the way out and be fine... of course I missed J's "aural fix" phonecall while I was blow drying the phone, which means he's not checked email to find out my phone was diluged by a Texas thunderstorm, but I'm sure it'll all work out.

i just need to stay distracted untill friday evening when i can find some answers. untill then i have to be happy and cheerfull, and excited for the camp i work at. it would not do to be upset while at work. especially since tommorrow is the first day.

As for the cell, if you get it before it's been wet really long, and turn it off and let it dry a couple of days it'll be fine. The problem is when it's imersed for long enough for all the water to get in there AND do it's job. The way I figure it is that their's air in your phone. When you drop it in the water at first that air keeps the water out, but eventually you get little bubbles (that's the air escaping) and that means the water is getting IN the phone.
