Cat,

Have you been near any ivy of any sort lately? The rash sounds like it may be poison ivy, oak, or sumac.

If so, try calamine lotion, cocoa butter ointment, and something i have found locally (not sure if it would be in your area) called Ivy Dry. Its a spray on, and it takes the itch away fast, and dries up the rash within a couple of days.

i hope you get better soon, cause it sucks being sick.

Nah, haven't been out of the house for over a week until this afternoon when I went for a short trip to the shops to try for a cough mixture with guts. LOL, I am running out of my supplies from Oz and frankly, trying to get similar things here is almost impossible. Can't even buy Bicarbonade of Soda here, and yet if I go over the border to Belgium it is as readily available as anywhere else!! I have some great soap alternative from Oz which is designed for people with skin problems and can relieve itching to bathe in or dab on....as I am down to the last drops and won't be off home for about 3 months yet, I am just using it in dab form when it gets unbearable. Never did find cough mixture like I am used to....I have tried 6 since moving here and all of them have no bite like the ones back home, nor do they stop my cough...get better results from sipping ice. Hopefully tonight I will not be up coughing most of the night and actually get some sleep.

YOu can't buy bicarbonate of soda? As in baking soda? How in the world do you bake anything? Most cookie recipes have baking soda in them.

Some places have little sachets of baking powder, but nowhere has bicarb which apart from baking, Ialso used to use in cleaning baths etc., and bathing when I had skin rashes that itched. I am used to cooking/baking and find it so frustrating...lots of things I make have coconut in them.....here I am lucky to be able to buy it in 100gr packets and I am used to buying it by the kilo...also have problems sometimes getting SR flour and of the ones available, I have only found one which rises....they sell lots of bread making machines, but try buying baker's flour or wholemeal flour and you are looked at strange...yeast is sold in small sachets also. When I first moved here we were in a remote place near the German border and I couldn't even buy boxes of tissues. As for double cream....forget it...can't find it anywhere. Mint is also difficult to find except for the markets sometimes. I don't understand it as I watch lots of cooking programs from the UK and all the things I know from Oz are readily available in the UK, and elsewhere in Europe it seems, just not The Netherlands. LOL, every trip back to Australia means I go on shopping sprees of things I can't get here, box it up and send back a few cartons of food ingredients, natural and salt free products and soap alternatives for my allergies, as well as overload my luggage with even more.

Catalina, have you tried the pharmacies to get it?

That's where I guess you would get it in Germany.

Yep, tried them when I first discoverded I could't find it and found one small 50gr packet in a drugstore near the German border . In Oz I could just buy it in any supermarket. Mind you, I find a lot of things I used to buy in Oz in supermarkets or pharmacies, I now have to go to a pharmacy and ask specially for and then debate with them whether I can have it or should go to a doctor to get permission, right down to women's products for heavier than usual bleeding...not like they are going to kill me is it, just save a lot of embarrassment if I have to go out?

I so agree with you!! One friend actually called our mutual friend in Chicago and then my parents' house just to make sure I was ok. As it turned out, I was just taking a shower, and although I felt bad that they were worried about me, it also was a comforting feeling, too.
