Causes of Gene Hackman and his wife's deaths officially confirmed: she is believed to have died up to a week before Gene, from Hanta virus and he remained alive, potentially unaware of her death. He was in advanced stages of Alzheimer's and had no food in his stomach, meaning he'd not eaten recently but was not dehydrated so must have been drinking. He had heart disease and it is believed his heart failing was the final cause of his death. How sad for them both, and their dog which died shut in its crate. No matter how famous a person is or once was, illness can isolate them and Alzheimer's a cruel way to go.

I'm a bit disappointed with the cake... not so light and moist as it should be

the hand beater cutting out not even halfway through and leaving me to finish it all by hand didn't exactly help... 8 egg whites to beat to 'stiff but not dry' peaks and a seriously heavy butter/sugar/flour/milk mix before they were even introduced!
Oh well, it still tastes okay but I remember how it should be and this doesn't rise to those levels. *sigh*
