Extremely expensive medical services won't improve with more government money thrown at them. Cancer treatments are as reliable as politicians' promises. Taxpayers want value for their money.
Because they don't have global hegemony and runaway debt. Living within their means kept products and services mostly reasonably priced in most of those nations, for a while.
Where wealth is extreme, expenses rise to match. The USA wastes trillions of dollars every year on military hardware, suburban sprawl, medical treatments that range from ineffective to fatal, and all sorts of junk we accept as necessary but really don't need. Many poorer nations keep higher and healthier living standards with less wealth. Correlation is not causation, but that correlation is worth a long look. The USA won't stay this wealthy forever.
