THE LAST ELECTION THREAD!! (I hope!!)

HeyLash!

Of course you know whoever wins is going to use the *M* word. They can't help it. To them, their victory will be a m?????e..

Hey, they just declared Gore the winner in Maine, however they say he will only get three of Maine's four electoral votes. WTF?

MM, they just said something about Maine being a "proportional" state. So much for my winner-take-all comment. ;)

Oh no....was today the day we are supposed to vote? Awww fuck...I missed it again this year...oh well... :D

Hey Merlin, this might answer your question, I got it from a government info website:

In most States, the electors are appointed by state-wide popular election. The slate of electors for the candidate who receives the most popular votes is appointed. The slates of electors are generally chosen by the political parties. However, the States' laws vary on the appointment of electors. In Maine and Nebraska, two electors are chosen at-large by state-wide popular vote and the rest are selected by the popular vote in each congressional district. As a result, the electoral procedure in these States permits a split slate of electors to be chosen.

Ummm... Got called away for a minute, and look at all the fun I missed, lol.

MM, Maine is one of two states that doesn't have winner take all for Electoral College. In Maine, 2 go to winner of state, and one goes to the winner in each congressional district. It's actually a plan that was proposed by JFK as an amendment to the constitution when he was still a senator in 1956.

Nicole, the Electoral College is all that counts. There have been 3 or 4 times that a President has lost the popular vote, but won in the Electoral College. And it might happen again tonight.

I am not sure how full the polling places were anywhere else but they were packed here.

I got there to vote at 6:00 and finlly got into my little booth at 8:05, I spent 2 hours in line to vote and there were people still in line behind me.

They locked the doors at 7:00 and there were plenty of po'd people who got there late and could not get in. They also forgot to leave the air on so we all waited, most of us with small children, in the heat to vote. But hey I voted, got my stick and came home.

Just took a look at the exit polls for some of the states that have closed the polls and are still being listed as undecided...

Looks like Missouri, Ohio, Tennesse, Arkansas, New Hampshire and West Virginia will all go for Bush.

USAToday has given Pennsylvania to Gore, MSNBC still has it undecided... From what I can tell from the exit poll, the poll gives Gore about .04 percentage point advantage. I'd love to know what USAToday is basing its call on, that's awfully damn close.

Lasher went to take the little one to Kindy and I just got the site back up.

Looks like Gore seems to be giving Bush a run for his money now. I have gone to the USA site now and there seems to be a few States that are too close to call.

I'm fully enjoying this ... Is that good or bad?

Don't be to sure of California.

I live in the liberal northern part of California and work in San Francisco and all day long I've heard a lot of people supporting George Bush.

This has surprised the hell out of me. If northern California supports Bush in any significant amount at all, Gore may be in serious trouble here.

And we have 54 electoral votes.....

Bigdog and Lash thanks for clearing up the Maine issue for me.

USAToday must be watching me, LOL. They just took Pennsylvania back from Gore and made it undecided again.

And I'm getting pretty good at this. They just gave Ohio and Tennesse to Bush. I haven't been wrong yet!

Why do you think I'm staying on this thread Lasher, you seem to know what your going on about.

Thanks.

I picked Bush at the beginning of the night. I gave some numbers in my first post... I didn't really think Gore could take Florida... But it looks like Bush is sweeping all the Southern and Midwest undecided states...

Current undecided states I haven't picked show Colorado, Arizona, Wisconsin (and pretty easily, this one's a surprise), and New Mexico all going to Bush. New Mexico is gonna be really close, probably around .2 of a percentage point.

Okay Lasher sorry, but you see on the USA Today site each State has a number in it, is that how many Electrol votes that State has?

Lasher, you should teach political science, ya know? And flunk some flunkies.

Hey Nikki, just kidding about the wombat thing. I'm impressed you want to know so much about this shit. Really!

Hey Lasher, you're right about Ridge. He would have handed Bush PA and maybe FL. What did Cheney give him? Fucking SD or wherever he's from. Doh!

This all might just come down to California and those fucking wackos like Laurel. Oh shit!

Yep, Nicole, that number is the number of Electoral College votes each state has....

It's looking like if things fall the way I see'em, Gore has to win California, Oregon, Washington, and Iowa to win. He's gonna win Hawaii, but it doesn't do any good....

Nice to see my 5 yrs of college is good for something, Deb. And all Dubbayah needs is PA. Smart thinking there passing Ridge up... Maybe he's as stupid as everyone thinks.

Deborah you know how I feel about you, I would like to think I know when your joking with me and when your not.

I am Interested in this Shit, as you put it (LOL), and Lasher has been the first one that has actually explained it all to me in a way that my small but well meaning brain understands.

I'm really getting into all this, and yes I'm the same when we vote over here too.

Okay Lasher so ... They have to win the Majority of those Electoral votes to win that particular State?

CNN just pulled Florida from Gore's column.

They are now reversing their earlier decision and saying it is to close to call.

Holy shit! Here we go..

:D:D:D:D:D

I predict WI goes to Bush even though I haven't turned on the TV yet to see what they are predicting. Turnout was HIGHER than I've ever seen in my life here- and most of us in the 'burbs vote for Bush. Only heard people talk about Bush all day.

I love the fact that Gore lost his home state. What does that tell you?

Here's where it gets confusing, Nicole.

The person who wins the popular vote in the state gets all the Electoral votes for that state. Except in Maine and Nebraska where they can be split up. That happened in Maine tonite. Gore won the state, but he's only getting 3 of the 4 Electoral College votes. Don't worry about why those two states do it that way, but I think we mentioned it somewhere on the second page.

I just saw MSNBC gave New Mexico to Gore. They haven't been paying attention to me, LOL.

Cheyenne it says to me that you are happy about that.

In fact all those big smilies show that. LOL.
