The Last Kingdom

*Such a strange invitation for someone with such a reputation.....His gut instincts told him all he needed to know....he gave a furitive smile, and flung back his Sheet of long hair, his eyes matching hers, distrust and uncertainty, He licked his dry lips*

I would love to....

*Gotta play it cool, if you show you trust her, maybe she wont turn you in...It was a chess match for him, and he always hated playing against his wills, but he did so with an unmistakeable confidance*

I am afraid I have not been introduced to your friend however...

Vixen

A shout was heard. Vixen tensed and she listened carefully...

Karrack looked at her waiting for her to speak to him.

"A scout has made it back to the castle... let's go see..." She hurried down the stairs that lead to the main chambers just as the great doors opened and the scount wheezing from lack of breath staggered in.

"A... word... to... the... King..." he gasped. Vixen went to the man and held him steady.

"What word?" She asked.

He seemed desperate to impart his news and turned to her eagerly.

"Raiding parties... young boy helped me escape... need the Kings Men to come... many villages pillaged... heading this way..." He groaned with pain clutching his stomach.

Vixen gave him up to the guards that had come. They helped him away to be tended to.

"I'm not doing ANYTHING till I've bathed... come on..." she motioned for the giant and the Druid to follow her.

She quickly sniffed out the bathing pools. Steam billowed out from between the pillars that held up the great ceiling. Vixen quickly stripped off her clothing, completely unembarrassed by her own nudity and slipped into the steamy hot water. She groaned estatically as she dived beneath the water and surfaced again with her hair slicked back. "Heaven!" She crooned as she started to scrub herself with a cloth she had found for just this purpose. As she washed she became thoughtful.

"Karrack... did he say... young boy?" Vixen asked calmly.

Aeneva stood, frozen like a white marble statue, as the stranger spoke. She clutched the comb tightly. Apprehension could be seen rippling through her slender frame. However, her eyes widen with surprise as the stranger spoke gently to her. She had rarely encountered another human who did not view her as an aberration of nature, a freak to be shunned and ridiculed.

Aeneva was an albino and because of that, an outcast of society. She learned to live in the shadows in order to survive, moving from one village outskirt to another, never remaining long in any, a literal living ghost. Her face was crafted as though by an expert sculptor. All the delicate features were in perfect harmony, a bizarre contrast to her coloring.

She remained motionless and silent even when he held his hand out to her. She watched him with guarded eyes as he shrugged and left to make a fire. All her instincts told her to leave but his simple and gentle words gave her cause to stay. The fire was warm and unless she dried her wet clothing, she was apt to catch a cold.

Aeneva wrestle with her thoughts but the warmth of the fire won her over. She cautiously walked toward the stranger and the blaze and carefully sat at a safe distance from both. She could feel the stranger looking at her and met his gaze unwaveringly.

A small smile touched her lips as she recalled his words, ‘You haven't tried to kill me yet, so I don't plan on killing you.’ He had no idea the significance of his words. She was unable to kill even if it meant saving her own life. Her gift prevented her from doing so. Though an outcast, she was blessed and marked by the goddess with the pure gift of life. She was a healer, one able to cure all diseases and poisons, any afflictions that tainted life. She also had the power to resurrect the dead and reverse death but at great risk to herself.

Aeneva let her eyes travel to the man’s leg. She had seen the limp when he moved. The injury was mild and one that she could heal without laying her hands upon him. Her pale eyes darkened to a deep amethyst fire as she looked through skin and flesh till she saw the wounded muscles.

The dark color of pain receded at her mental touch as she skillfully reversed the injury. The limp and pain was gone. Her eyes returned to their pale violet color as she raised them to look at the man. She stared at him before speaking in a quiet soft voice, “That was for sharing your fire with me. Thank you.”

*he looked apprehensive to say the least, but knowing he could run for his very life if nessicary....knowing every shadow within a hundred thousand miles of him helped with that...So, discarding his long red cloak and hood, and stripping away the light, supple enchanted leather armour, he took a deep breath and slid into the warmth of the pool, down to it's very bottom and remained there, for nearly five minutes...it was lovely being in the quiet depths of the pool, he looked all around him, first up at the form of fixen in the more shallow depths of the pool like bath, and then the suddenly appearing form of her friend....if only they knew what it felt like to mean well and be hunted at every turn for what you were...hated and hounded out of citys, nearly burned at the stake for being a witch or warlock...having to buy everything illegaly or steal it...niether of them knew, nor would they ever, they were the normal folk, those generally accepted....a life of hardships had earned him a name, BUt not the Dark mist, to those who knew his famed reputation and there were very few, which made him all the more famous, he was known simply as the shadowalker...a tale oft told by merchants and the wealthy to children who were disobediant.....he was thought as a very evil monster who would steal children out of their beds at night and spirit them away to the shadowrealms...never to return to a world of light....indeed he had visited these realms on occassion, but they were wonderous places, decedant in luxury and spirit...the black Rose garden...a very sacred place to all theives...He had been there once...It is where he had been acclaimed the Shadowalker by his peers.....But alas, he could not remain there forever, he needed to earn his place there, and one day he would....but for now he waited, finally he swam to the surface for air and spotted the disbeleiving look on vixens face....but there was a double meaning to it, he chanced a glance at his arm, he was still disguised.......but then he realized it, so deep in the shadows of it.....his true Drow form did shine through...the look he gave her was one of pure hope...he wished and preyed she would not give him away, his eyes reproachful and his cold nature forgotten for now...*

Vixen...

She looked closer... scarse believing what her senses all screamed at her. Why hadn't he killed them already?

Every instinct told her to run... or if cornered... attack. She was unsure what to do when he looked at her like... like that... as if he had feelings...

Her feminine curiousity got the better of her... she wadded forward in the pool... eyeing him curiously... cautiously.

"You... you're a..." she left the sentance hanging... the word... unspoken. He nodded carefully.

"Do you intend to hurt us?"

He shook his head just as carefully.

Vixen paused... it seemed a lifetime...

"You know what I am?" She asked...

Again he nodded.

"Well then... I can keep silent so long as you can... but if I get even a hint that you are sabotaging us... or planning on hurting me or mine..." she glanced with a warm smile over at Karrack who sat across the pool... his great arms outstretched holding him up as he snored... clearly the water was enjoyable to him.

"I will give my own life to take yours... okay?"

She smiled after this.

Knowing what he was made her feel much better.. much better than not knowing..

She sank beneath the water and relished the warmth of the water... swimming across the pool to where Karrack continued snoring. Suddenly Karrack yelped... splashing water everywhere... he looked down and scowled as Vixen bobbed to the surface laughing at him.

Morsyth

The crow flee over the land and the sea, searching for something. It only paused, if absolutely necessary. It searched for something and it was not the only creature, which did.

A hundred miles away, a wolf wandered through the woods. He took a sniff and noticed a special smell in the air. There were humans not very far away. Did he find him? He ducked down and sneaked in the direction the smell came from. He looked around and finally found a place where he could oversee the surroundings. He saw a young man and a strange looking and smelling women talking to each other. They seemed to have met only minutes ago. They stood at a small pool of water and talked to each other. Suddenly there was another smell. The smell of Orks and Ogres coming this way. The wolf sprang on the next stone, which was really big. He stood there and glanced at the two humans, who 'till then didn't recognize him. And then, he howled loud and clear. The humans heard him, but what did they do?

The same time, but a different place. Morsyth has finished meal and left the town going directly into the woods. There, he met one of his wolfes, who told him, that another wolf has found the missing member of their party, but that they are in danger. Morsyth left and walked back to the town. He walked direktly in the direction of the bathes. He opened the door and rushed in without knocking on the door. Vixen, Karrack and even Lothander watched him with surprise. He didn't wait 'till they asked, but answered their question immediatly.

"We have to go now. The missing member of our party is in danger! We have to hurry, or he won't survive until we're there. Now get your clothes and get ready! We'll meet at the gate."

Morsyth disappeared before the others could say anything about that. He left the bathes and went to the King's rosegarden. He went just in when the king and Avallyn were talking about something he really was not interested in.

"Your majesties. I'm sorry to interupt you with your personal, or should I say with the states affairs, but we have to go. You know, that according to the prophecy, one adult member is missing and - don't ask me how - I found him. But he is in serious danger and if we don't hurry, he'll be dead soon. I'm going to meet the others at the gate and I hope, you both will join forces because we will need any hand we can get."

Then, Morsyth went off, without saying another word. He went over to the gate, knowing that the others would join

Avallyn accepted the kings arm following him out into the garden. looking around she felt a sense of awe at natures beauty as she always did. Looking up to him she smiled "It is beautiful, I have never seen the like" bending down to smell a rose she felt the kings eyes on her again, Standing up slowly she turned to face him a smile still playing across her lips, her eyes sparkling. For a moment her gaze met his and her breath caught in her throat. Unable to speak Avallyn just stood there looking at the king wondering what he was going to do next.

The lonesome howl of a wolf nearby pieced through the shroud of the night. Aeneva edged closer to the fire for comfort. The one called Garrett had offered her some of his supper. She shook her head with a pained expression on her face and politely refused. She was not a meat eater.

The silent forest was suddenly shattered as five large loaming creatures crashed through the trees and stood snorting and growling in the moonlight. Ogres! Aeneva gasped and stumbled to her feet. The monstrosities roared when they saw the fire and the two humans. The ogres’ eyes glowed a fearsome red.

One of the larger ones pointed a clawed finger at Garrett and then made a dismissive gesture toward her. There was no doubt to the meaning. They wanted Garrett and she was disposable. She began to back away. She had no weapons and even if she did, she would not know what to do. She was not a warrior. She had survived alone through simple luck and by avoiding danger.

Four began to circle around Garrett as one began to advance towards her. Horror gripped her, freezing her momentarily as her eyes fell on the fearsome sight of the wicked looking ax clutched in the ogre’s clawed hand. A cry shattered the air, breaking through her fear. Aeneva turned and ran. Her feet left divots in the ground as she accelerated into the forest.

The ogre gave chase as Aeneva ran in terror for her life.

Garret reached over, grabbing his knapsack. It still had some goodies he could use. He glanced from each of the four ogres. Damnit, why did it have to be ogres. Couldn't they have ordered four pixies to come and search for him?
He smelled something in the air... it was familiar.
Drowl magic, he sniffed again. It came from the wolf. Hateful eyes went upon the wolf right now. Of course, that's how they found him, they tracked him by putting the animals under their spells.
He continually stepped backwords as the four monsters crept from the shadows, and into the light.
He watched the pretty woman run away, only one ogre ran after her. In the blink of an eye he decided to help her. One swift arrow to the leg of her assailer. It would slow him down. She at least had a chance now.
"Hey, guys can we talk about this for a minute?"
The anger in their eyes gave him his answer.
"I'll tell you what. How about if I promise never to do what I did again, and you promise to leave right now? What do you say?"
A club came swiftly from the dead of night. On instinct Garret dove into the water. It missed him, barely, he could feel the air rushing by his skull. He swam, swam for all his life.
In all his readings he had never actually been sure on how ogres could swim. It seems logical that a big clumsy thing such as an ogre would be a horible swimming. Garret didn't have time to make calculations. He only hoped they climb about as good as they can swim. He headed for the waterfall. The water cascaded down, upon slippery rocks and moss filled mounds of dirt. Garret grabbed for the first hold, and hauled himself up. The canvas bag, now filled with water, bogged him down. He daren't let it go though. It was too important. He didn't want to, but he had to steal a look back.
The ogres were in the middle of the lake, and they were swimming back to shore. Yes, he had done it. Garret reached for another hold on the waterfall. It was only ten feet tall, if he could get to the top he'd be home free. Another footing, and then another. It got easier as he went to the top.
At that point it hit him. A huge rock. He shook his hand, glancing back at the ogres, they all had rocks now, and were throwing them like mad.
He felt one pelted his leg, another left a scratch mark on his arm. He began climbing faster, and more clumsily. One holding gave way, as he looked down at the waterfall, only one hand holding onto a moss covered rock. He took a rock to the stomach, which really hurt. Sucking in the pain he continued to climb. Almost to the top.
It hit his head, hard. The world shook around him, his vision doubled. Pain reared from him, things hurt that he didn't even know were capable of pain anymore. On instinct now, he reached up to the final hold. A very sharp rock that dug into his flesh, he bit down against the pain, and got over the waterfall.
He lay, breathless on top, a cooling creek running right beside him. He smiled, in light of his present condition he still had to admire the beauty of this place. Maybe... maybe if this was all over he'd make a cabin up here, and explore every aspect of the place.
Right now though, there was no time. Garret only let himself rest for a moment. He needed to run, hide, do whatever it meant to get away from those ogres. He got up, looking for trail to...
There, on horseback was an elf. He smelled more. Elves, all around this place. He glanced back over the waterfall, more ogres were lined up. Orcs were behind them. Everyone from the camp.
Damnit, he told them not to look into the tent.
The elf drew back his bow. Garret was still deciding how to do this. It didn't look good at all. His mind raced for ideas. In the end he came up with nothing though, their was at least a hundred creatures, and only one of him.
The elf fired, a searing pain shot through his shoulder. He took a step backwards, dazed at the sight of an arrow stuck inside him. The pain was nearly unbearable.
He lost his footing. He stepped out, onto a larger rock, glancing back down. A ten foot waterfall wasn't that much of a fall, but he couldn't do it. It turns out he didn't have too. Another rock hit him in the head, knocking him unconscience. His lifeless body plummeted towards the pool below. It hit with a deafening splash. One of the orcs, and as it turned out orcs are pretty good swimmers, fished him out.
There, he laid on the bank, lifeless. His body in shambles, his mind, asleep under a fog of blackness. The creatures, then began walking back to camp. One of the ogres carried the slumpen human form with him. A faint heartbeat could be heard, nothing more.
His stuff was brought as well.
The gray mare was nowhere to be found.

Aeneva heard the ogre howl in pain but she refused to look back. She moved liked liquid silver as she leapt and darted nimbly around trees and bushes. It took her a few moments to realize she was no longer being pursued. She slowed and quickly pulled her cloak over her silvery white hair.

She quickly climbed a tree and remained perfectly still. She could inhuman yells and roars of fury over the sound of the waterfall. Something moved below, the ogre that had been chasing her. He moved awkwardly and in the moonlight she could see the broken shaft of an arrow piercing through his leg and armor.

Her eyes widened. The stranger, it must have been his doing. Why would he take the time to assist her? She was confused at his kindness. Surely such an action would have been a risk to his safety. She made up her mind quickly and narrowed her eyes at the unsuspecting ogre.

She was physically no match for such a beast but it had no defenses against a healer with her skills. Her eyes blazed intently as she focused on the creature. Her gift prevented her from killing so she had to be creative. She was able to cure all ailments, even sleeplessness. The ogre’s eyes began to droop and within seconds it had toppled over in a deep and restful sleep.

Aeneva dropped silently to the floor and ran back to the waterfall pool. She kept to the shadows for safety. Her eyes widen as she spotted Garrett clinging against the stones at the top of the waterfall. He clutched his side suddenly as if wounded before plummeting to the pool.

Everywhere she looked, she could see monsters. She grimaced as one of the creatures tossed Garrett cruelly upon the bank. Was he dead? She reached out with her gift and nearly gasped out loud as she realized he was still alive though gravely injured. His wounds were serious and needed immediate attention.

There was no possible way for her to heal him from afar. Such deep injuries required her actual touch but with so many ogres surrounding the area, the situation looked hopeless.

OOC:

Okay... now I'm really confused... Darklord... help! I know everyone wants the story to move along... but we're jumping all over the place... suddenly Morsyth knows exactly where everyone is and where Garret is... and I had been hinting... albeit subtley that Garret was the child... because he is still very young... or at least that is the impression I get. Otherwise how would Morsyth even know that the other un-named person was an adult? Even the prophetess and the librarian have yet to discover this. And someone please tell me what this guy with the blue eyes is doing... as I can't make out the language he is using.

So... to finish... I'm not posting for Vixen just yet... but I'm going to post for the king as Avallyn had spoken to him...

The King...

Kelwyn was startled by Avallyn's gaze on him. She truly had the most amazing eyes he thought... temporarily lost in wonder. He cleared his throat and bent over to pluck a single rose on the verge of blooming. It was a deep deep red... like rich velvet and wine... he offerred it to her.

"Avallyn..." he whispered gently as he reached up to brush a stray strand of hair from her cheek... "I don't know what it is about you... but I feel as if I've been spellbound since I met you... " he paused as if uncertain of what to say next... he looked deeply into her eyes and lightly held both her hands in his... "I guess I've come to realise that behind the horror of this war... I am a lonely man... a man with a kingdom that needs some hope... I need hope... I need you..." he brought a finger up to her lips to stop her speaking.

"I know this is rather sudden... and I don't expect an answer immediately... as it is... if the prophecy is correct you will have to leave me before long... I want you to consider... consider a different treaty between our people... consider a union... between us... I want to care for you Avallyn... " He grinned now feeling a little silly now that it was out in the open. He dropped her hands and ran his hand through his hair.

"I guess... I guess this sounds silly to you?" He looked over at her admiring her beauty for the thousandth time since he'd laid eyes on her.

Note by the Thread Starter:

Okay gang, I have to agree with Moneytalks, since she has been with me from day 1 on this thread.

Point 1) Good god, work two 18 hour days and the thread runs like a wounded deer on you!

Point 2) I also have been running on the assumption that Garret is the child of the prophecy since his charecter is being played like a ver young adult, SO..... he IS. The fact that the writing by Citizen X is not picture perfect english is excuseable, English isn't his first language but heres the new situation for y'all.

Thread situations at this point:
1) Vixen, Karrack, and Lothander are in the baths, having just been warned that the child of the prophecy is in danger...

2) Kelwyn and Avallyn are in the castle gardens having just been warned..

3) Morsyth is SOMEWHERE...

4) Garret is hostage of the orcs in the woods, somehow to be revealed to us soon, possibly by Morsyth?? or by simple plot means like me??

5) Avena and Sanity? are currently in the woods seeking to help the injured Garret..

The way the plot WILL be:

The group, aka: Vixen, Karrack, Morsyth, and Lothander will meet up with Avallyn and Kelwyn, who will then set up the plan for rescuing Garret AND stopping the current bands of badies heading for Telerast.
This will be followed by whatever actions Sanity and Avena deem fit to TRY to free Garret, but they will? fail since we need some drama!
Avallyn and Kelwyn WILL go with a seperate group of adventurers, it's up to them though which one, the Garret group or the Raiding group.
Thats the way it stands at this point, so let's get rolling!

-Darklord

Karrack

"My gods, how much crap can happen in a single light forsaken day?" Karrack thought as Morsyth suddenly appeared yelling something about a child or man or something... This on top of Vixen's jumpiness over Lothander AND her upcoming change AND not bathing for a couple of days AND Lothander's subsequent exchange of secrets with her AND to top it all off, she was hitting on him again, not that he minded since she was a fine figure of a.. being. He closed his eyes to try to wipe away some of the headache that was forming.

Shaking his head he stood up in the pool towering over Vixen and Lothander as the water coursed over his heavily muscled and scarred body. He smiled slightly when he saw Vixen's eyes widen at the fact he was also naked like her. "Can't let you have all the fun, besides, wait till I'm full grown!" he said to her as he stepped from the pool and quickly dryed off and set about putting his equipment on. At last he stood on the edge of the pool with the trolls skull in his arm as he handed Vixen a towel as she stepped from the pool also.

Ooc: Whoo Hoo! I get my own point, officially and all that. Yeah, I suggest, that since we have a couple of newbies here with us, that someone should dig up that old RULES & GUIDLINES for role playing. Nothing personal guys, but when you start stepping on veteran's toes, like Moneytalks, something's not right. I hope to see you both continue rping.

As for the plot plan, it looks like I'm just going to be sitting tight for a while... lol. NOT!!! There are going to be numerous escape attempts, although none successful. Honestly, you didn't think you could just stroll through the woods to get the child of destiny, could you?
Garret is sleeping now, so I can't really post for him... unless of course you want to see what he dreams about??? Too bad, I'm not telling you. He's resting, fixing his wounds. Well, actually an elf healer is fixing his wounds, but you know what I mean. He'll be fine real soon. Don't worry.

ooc: Sorry for not Posting Sooner, I've been really busy today.

Sounds like a plan darklord, also Icant RP Post right now, but if it helps bringin along the story you can move Lothander with them Until I can do this later tonight.

Cheers!

Aeneva stumbled and fell backwards onto the floor. She stared in stunned silence at the large strange being before her. The ogres had carried Garrett away when the being appeared from out of nowhere.

She backed away, her feet kicking frantically as she struggled back to her feet. She took one last look at the disappearing figure of Garrett and silently prayed to the goddess to protect the kind stranger. There was nothing else she could do.

The being looked from her and the disappearing ogres and spoke gruffly. Its eyes began to glow. Without hesitating, Aeneva spun around and ran back into the safety of the forest. The darkness enfolded her quickly as she disappeared once more.

(ooc) My thanks for allowing me (a newbie on these boards) to briefly join you all. I shall not stay to mess up the prophecy now that you have the required seven. It was not my intent to step on any toes. My utmost apologies to all the veterans here and to MoneyTalks. *bows humbly*

Sanity is much better to be the one who would attempt the failed rescue. I’m afraid my character is neither strong enough in magic, since she is limited to healing, nor will she be of much asset during combat since she is untrained and inexperienced with any weapons.

This is a wonderful story in the making, I shall be most eager to continue to read it.

Oh, and Aeneva simply means white winter in the Cheyenne language.
:)

Quick note for plot situation...

Jazi, you can still write in this thread, we do NOT know yet who the seventh member is. It could be you, Sanity, or some stable boy in a far flung village, thats the joy of prophecy! Besides, once the group joins up with Avena and Sanity your going to be more than busy enough trying to keep us all patched up... So, keep posting, we're happy to have you along with us.

Also, the ONLY people who can say who is who in the prophecy are the Prophetess and Libarian who currently are being semi-run by Moneytalks through the charecter of King Kelwyn. If someone wants either role go ahead and take it, but try to keep in charecter.

Oh, and thanks for letting us know what Aeneva means in the Cheyenne language.

OOC; Dark lord Sanity receves Visions and is ome what Of A Prophet Him self is that al right?
