The Last Kingdom

OOC: I myself am a bit confused but I will let Darklord and Moneytalks handle it since they are older to the posts :)

IC: Avallyn's eyes widened as she gazed at the king. His words sending her into a state of shock. She wanted to console him but was unsure of what she should say. So instead of saying anything she rose up and pressed her lips to his in a fleeting but firm kiss then with a smile she headed back to the castle. Just then a messenger came rushing around the corner nearly knocking him down. He quickly apologized then rushed past her to the king speaking hurridly. Avallyn didn't catch all her said but she did here the words "Child in danger" and immediatly knew something was wrong.

Lord Randall

OC: Sorry Rayv, but for the purpose of this thread Sanity's gonna be without propheting powers, he's already got enough tricks up his sleeves it looks like.

Siren, your post puts things right onto track so we're in good shape. Thanks.

IC: Randall was pacing the King's Office as he awaited his Lord to return from his stroll in the rose garden. Part of him, the warrior, was annoyed at him dallying with a woman at a time like this, but the other part, the friend, was overjoyed that he had finally taken an intrest in someone. Snorting he turned around again to keep pacing, up down, up down, 20 strides to a side he walked. Throughout this his thoughts boiled over with ideas, plans, and worries about the information Morsyth had just told him. This wasn't good, not at all in his mind. On the one hand, some people needed to lead the King's Army to hold off the hordes approaching them for a while. But another group would be needed to rescue this missing member, the child it was said. Yet, that still left another person missing and that could be very SERIOUS trouble and he HATED mysteries. Just then a messenger ran in saying the King was on his way. Sighing Randall ordered the boy to summon the others to meet there, in the King's Study, so they could discuss plans...

Aeneva stumbled and fell backwards onto the floor. She stared in stunned silence at the large strange being before her. The ogres had carried Garrett away when the being appeared from out of nowhere.

She backed away, her feet kicking frantically as she struggled back to her feet. She took one last look at the disappearing figure of Garrett and silently prayed to the goddess to protect the kind stranger. There was nothing else she could do.

The being looked from her and the disappearing ogres and spoke gruffly. Its eyes began to glow. Without hesitating, Aeneva spun around and ran back into the safety of the forest. The darkness enfolded her quickly as she disappeared once more.

(ooc) My thanks for allowing me (a newbie on these boards) to briefly join you all. I shall not stay to mess up the prophecy now that you have the required seven. It was not my intent to step on any toes. My utmost apologies to all the veterans here and to MoneyTalks. *bows humbly*

Sanity is much better to be the one who would attempt the failed rescue. I’m afraid my character is neither strong enough in magic, since she is limited to healing, nor will she be of much asset during combat since she is untrained and inexperienced with any weapons.

This is a wonderful story in the making, I shall be most eager to continue to read it.

Oh, and Aeneva simply means white winter in the Cheyenne language.
:)

My dear Jazzi... I hope I haven't inadvertently made you feel unwelcome... to clear up the picture a little... I adore your character... I love that someone is bringing in a person without mega-combat skills... I was tentatively imagining that perhaps your character would be the seventh... she is unique... and unusual yet easily over looked.

Please continue to post with us... you are indeed an asset to the story line... [warm smiles]

King Kelwyn...

Avallyn didn't catch all her said but she did here the words "Child in danger" and immediatly knew something was wrong.

Kelwyn was thrilled by that kiss. The feel of it lingered on his lips long after she walked ahead of him. If anything... the kiss left him feeling even more unsure about her own feelings towards him... but he decided that it was a good sign... a good beginning. His thoughts were interrupted by Morsyth with news about the child from the prophecy. He was in danger.

"Guards!" He hollared... they were beside him in seconds.

"Get Vixen, Karrack and Lothander... have them meet me in the throne room... it would seem that a rescue is in order."

He took Avallyn's hand and lead her to the throne room himself.

Vixen...

Darklord said:
"My gods, how much crap can happen in a single light forsaken day?" Karrack thought as Morsyth suddenly appeared yelling something about a child or man or something... This on top of Vixen's jumpiness over Lothander AND her upcoming change AND not bathing for a couple of days AND Lothander's subsequent exchange of secrets with her AND to top it all off, she was hitting on him again, not that he minded since she was a fine figure of a.. being. He closed his eyes to try to wipe away some of the headache that was forming.

Shaking his head he stood up in the pool towering over Vixen and Lothander as the water coursed over his heavily muscled and scarred body. He smiled slightly when he saw Vixen's eyes widen at the fact he was also naked like her. "Can't let you have all the fun, besides, wait till I'm full grown!" he said to her as he stepped from the pool and quickly dryed off and set about putting his equipment on. At last he stood on the edge of the pool with the trolls skull in his arm as he handed Vixen a towel as she stepped from the pool also.

Vixen laughed... a decidedly feminine sound that lingered within the echoing walls of the bathing rooms.

She was pleased to have finally seen all of Karrack in all his glory so to speak so she didn't mind his back to business attitude and accepted the towl and his smile gratefully.

She dried herself quickly and looked around for her clothes. She found her leathers and pulled on the pants scrunching up her nose at the dirt on them. She wished she'd thought to bring a change of clothes. She discarded her shirt which was beyond repair and slipped on her tight leather vest by itself. Her boots followed and then the small arsenal of knives she kept on her person where slipped into boots... between breasts and behind belts.

Finally finished she clasped the last knife... her favorite around her arm with a specially designed arm band.

The Kings guards arrived to escort them to the throne room where the King awaited them.

Vixen took the lead, her steps definitely more spritely now that she had eaten and bath. She tossed her silky mane of hair back and strode forward opening the throne room doors before the guards could do it for her.

She walked into the room... looked around appraising it... then fully entered approaching the King and the Lady Avallyn who now stood alongside Lord Randall.

*he stood near Vixen and Her friend, his eyes decidedly glinting beneath his dark bloodred hood, as he watched the lord and lady enter...He was silent and would remain silent unless spoken to, When they got into the open he knew exactly what to do, These fools knew nothing of real conflict. *but that had been years ago he reminded himself, shaking his head quietly, as he shifted uncomfotably to his other foot......Years and years ago.....suddenly they were on the throne talking.....He had lost it again, and shook his head harshly, slicing his arm lightly with a sharp bowie knife...and letting it bleed a little.....He needed to be on his guard.....now and forever as he listened for his orders*

Karrack

Karrack entered the throne room behind a very energized Vixen. There he saw Kelwyn and Avallyn standing very close together with Lord Randall arguing with them about something, probably the missing person to bring the group to 6 of the 7 needed. As they were announced Karrack quickly ran over the assests of the group and the possible choices that would need to be made. There we're only 5 of the heroes of the prophecy there and two missing. If you added Kelwyn and Randall it brought the group up too 9 people. A very tricky way to divide up into groups to fight an invasion and to make a rescue attempt.

He thought for a few more moments then spoke to Vixen in a quiet tone.. "I think we're going to break up into groups, it's the only sensible thing to do. The only problem being for me, is that I never go into a fight anymore without my partner, right? So we need to see if we can't make it so we end up together either way, hmm?" he asked her as Lord Randall finally nodded his head in a very self-satisfied way and turned to them along with the two rulers.

Lord Randall

As King Kelwyn and Queen Avallyn came storming into the throne room just ahead of the adventurers they were greeted by Lord Randall pacing the throne room from side to side in his campaigning armor. Looking up at them he simply said "We need to split up." and seeing their reactions he began to explain to them.

"If we do not split up, how are we to show the troops or the people of our Kingdom that there is any hope? They all know by now about the prophecy, nothing can be kept secret in a castle, anywhere, for any length of time. If the whole band of adventurers rides off into the woods after the missing member, many people will take it the wrong way and think they are escaping with their lives rather than face the enemy. If we do that, we will have no morale or any hope of beating the evil coming at us." he said. "If you do not think so, I will still lead your army highness against the enemy and give it my best, but I fear that without some heros for the people and men to see we will be destroyed." he said again to the disagreement of the King, and nodded in a very satisfied way when Lady Avallyn began to speak to King Kelwyn urgently.

Avallyn was surprised by everything happening so fast. So now they were seperate. Who would be and which group. Glancing at Vixen she knew she would be with Karrack. They were inseperable. She looked at Kelwyn and knew she wanted to be in his group but she would not say anything she would let him decide. She turned fully to face him "I think Lord Randall is right, we do need to split up, also I think it would be a good idea if Karrack and Vixen were in the same group. They seem to work well together and will probably be stronger if they are kept together rathe then apart, don't you agree?"

King Kelwyn

Kelwyn smiled down at Avallyn and squeezed her hand gently to show her he appreciated her opinion before nodding in agreement.

"I agree... both the Lady Avallyn and Lord Randall have valid points and I see no reason to disagree... Lord Randall... you will come with me, Lady Avallyn and Morsyth... Karrack, Vixen and Lothander may also form one group. Lord Randall... gather the men you trust... the best, we will have five of them with each group, I suggest we gather what we need and meet down at the stables within the hour"

"M'Lady Avallyn... a guard will go with you and your own to show you where the stables are... they will also show you to the kitchens should you need to replenish your supplies..." He bowed low over her and and kissed it lightly before striding off with Lord Randall still at his side. The two men talked rapidly and without effort. Clearly at ease with each other.

Vixen...

Vixen glanced up at Karrack at their grouping arrangements and smiled.

"Looks like neither of us have to worry this time big guy..." she winked cheekily.

"Shall we return to the kitchens and get supplies?"

Morsyth

The door opened and Morsyth entered. He looked around and came in. When he noticed the persons standing in two groups, he nodded and walked right in the middle of both groups. There he stayed and took a look at the others. He thought a moment and then walked over to the king and his group. He bowed with a smile and stayed beside the others.

ooc: Sorry, I was unable to post, cause the board didn't work and all my attempts haven't been posted. But I try further.

It worked this time. Great. :-D

Karrack

When Karrack heard the pairings of the people he heaved a sigh of relief, he wouldn't be seperated from Vixen. And he couldn't help but grin at Vixen's very snide remark about being not seperated. Nodding his agreement about supplies they left to gather some from the kitchens.

While walking he looked over at her and remarked. "You know, the way that jerkin fits you and your..... assests..... one could forget he's a good upstanding son of a king." he finished leering at her in jest. He then quickly dodged a savage kick aimed for his balls and laughing caught her up in his arms and swung her around and set her down at the kitchen door. "I fell for that the first time we meet Vix, I may be big, but I ain't stupid..." was as far as he got when Vixen's next trick caught him flat footed...

Lord Randall

IC:
When the King had finally given his verdict on how the groups were to be setup he had heaved a sigh of relief. Nodding to Lady Avallyn his thanks he turned and nodded again as Kelwyn told him the needs to be placed upon the army. As he and Kelwyn strode off down the throne room they discussed the possible groups to be sent with the rescue effort.

Lord Randall quickly came up with 5 men he thought the best for the assignment. "First person I would reccomend would be Knight Thalcor, he's fought more battles than most and is the best horseman in the army. Next I would suggest Knight Simmons, he's pretty young but he's done quite well so far and is more loyal than most these days. I don't think they should all be warriors though (he mused aloud) perhaps Cleric Kudare? He's a demon in a fight and is a top notch healer in a battle situation. We should also send along Yeoman Barnes, he's never missed a shot in battle and can put a long arrow through a trunk at 400 paces. Finally, I would reccomend one last person, but it will depend if he wants to come from retirement. I'd suggest Baron Falco, he was made a member of the Brotherhood of the Swan (kinda best of the best thing among knights here) and a Protector of Goddess Teilla. These are the five I would send with them."

As he finished he told a nearby page to sound the alarm to ready the Hawks and to then send a messenger to the nearest outposts to send as many men they could spare to a spot 20 leagues up the road from the town borders. As he finished he waited to hear his King's reply.

Garret's eyes fluttered open. Only a moment before it looked as if he were dead, but then, in a matter of moments. His entire body came to life. Garret opened his eyes, looking at his surroundings. A tent, a human tent. Had he been rescued?
He tried to get up, but he felt the restraints instantly. Leather straps bound him to the table. What little hope he had for freedom was gone now.
"He's awake."
The tent flaps shuffled, and what came through was a very old elf, followed by a drowl. Garret rolled his eyes, specifically looking the other way.
"He's just woken up."
The drowl nodded, and the elf made his way out. He laid his hands down on Garret's body. Hisbody felt cold all of the sudden.
"He was my brother you know." The words seemed to pierce his heart.
Garret wanted to make some smide remark, but he didn't feel it would help the situation much. His life was in too much danger as it is. Putting wood on the fire wouldn't change how he got burned.
"Killing a drowl is not an easy task. Most can outlast impending armies by themselves. And yet, you killed him with a single dagger. I must say, it is impressive."
The hands moved around slightly. It was creeping him out, he could feel the drowl trying to look inside him. Look into what was going on, what was happening, Garret didn't like that one bit.
"I've tried several hypnosis spells, but none of them have worked on you. You seem to have an aura like no other human I've ever seen."
Garret knew what he was searching for now. He wanted to break the spell, to somehow get inside. Garret turned abruptly, looking the monster right in the eyes.
"That's exactly what your brother said. I killed him right before he tried to kill me. He said I was part of some prohecy or maybe even more than one."
The drowl nodded, as if they were having a perfectrly normal conversation, "The ancient scriptures have told of many phropecies. Most have come true, I must admit though, I've never been able to change a phrophecy... until now."
Garret stared intently at the drowl, "How are you going to do that?"
"Well, one of two ways actually. First I want to try and get this spell off of you, somehow you can't really be inflicted by magic of any kind, almost like an anti magic pocket around you. There is an old spell that might help. It will take a day to do, so I'm going to ask you to lay as still as possible."
Garret raised his eyebrows, "You expect me to actually do that?"
"No, just a little humor. You don't even need these restraints. The spell has just been cast."
As he removed his hands Garret felt the sudden coldness cease. It was changed, by a warm feeling, creeping all over his body. The restraints fell off on their own. Garret leaped from the table, trying to get the feeling off of him. He cringed, it wouldn't leave.
"Get it out of me," he winced. It wasn't pain, pain actually hurt, this didn't feel like pain. It felt more like a violation. "It" was violating him, and that felt worse than any pain imaginable.
"Just relax. In a day if it doesn't work, I promise to get it out of you. That is, if you don't leave the camp."
Garret stopped, he looked down at himself. It was like a scratch he could itch. He didn't have much of a choice, he doubted if anyone could take off something put on by a drowl. He said it was an old spell. The chances of finding someone with that knowledge was nearly phenomical.
"What happens if it doesn't work in one day?"
"We just keep you here. According to our research all of the destined need to be together. As long as your apart from human contact, we're safe."
Others? What others? He was alone. Well, that one albino woman. She was the only person he had met since his quest began. How is it possible that she's part of his destiny?
"As for now, you should get some sleep. Torak has healed most of your wounds, but some of them, like the arrow needs more time. Get some rest."
He left.
Garret sat there, on the long wooden table. He looked down at his stomach. It was in there, growing, feeding, searching him. He felt sick inside, not right at all.
He leaned over to the side, throwing up.

Vixen...

Vixen grinned from her new position on top of Karrack's stomach. He lay heavily on his back. She'd done a nifty thing with her leg as he put her down and the back of his knees had given way. She'd landed neatly on top of him grinning away like a Chesire cat.

"Well... not stupid... in the common sense of the word... but certainly unintelligent enough to underestimate me perhaps?" She chuckled as he heaved her off him and stood up.

She rolled neatly standing next to him giving him an impish wink as she did so.

*meanwhile*

As Garret was puking over the side of the table...

Suddenly Vixen cluched her stomach... her face going green.

"Oh Lord..." she moaned. She sank to her knees and promptly puked up her meal. As it was a rather large meal this took several heaves to accomplish.

She felt slightly dizzy afterwards, and would have stayed on her knees if Karrack hadn't of picked up the trembling woman easily. She lent against him weakly.

"What the hell..." she scrunched up her nose at the putrid smell of the vomit before her.

"Goddess... I NEVER throw up... Ohhhhh yuck! I need a drink!" She shook her head as if to clear it and let Karrack lead her the rest of the way to the kitchens.

Vixen immediately grabbed a whole pitcher of ale and started guzzling it down to wash away the vile taste of her earlier meal regurgitated.

She finally put the pitcher down and glanced over at Karrack.

"That was weird... really weird... came over me all of a sudden..." She frowned.

King Kelwyn...

Kelwyn nodded in approval of Lord Randall's suggested knights.

"If Baron Falco gives you any problems... or grumbles too much about retirement... tell him it's a direct order from me..." Kelwyn grinned.

"Truth be told it will be good to ride with Falco again..." His smile wavered... " 'tis a pity it will be under such foul circumstances..."

"Randall... make sure my horse Storm is saddled and ready... I need to have a word with the Librarian before we depart... I shall met with you at the stables..."

The King walked hurriedly towards the Library where Lady Meriddeth and the Librarian sat talking in agitated whispers.

"Am I interrupting?" Kelwyn asked.
The prophetess looked up blindly... her sight severely limited.
"Majesty... we can't seem to agree on the interpretation.."
"It'll have to wait for now Meriddeth... the boy has been found... we must save him before the darkness takes him..."
"NO Majesty!" The librarian and the prophetess both spoke in union.
"It is a trap Majesty... we cannot allow this..."
"There will be no discussion... as it is he may be harmed already... we must find him..."
"Majesty... we must protest..."
"Just give me something I can work with... you cannot keep throwing nothing but obsticals at us... we need some hope... finding the boy will give the people cause for celebration and strengthened hope... surely there must be something there to indicate what we are up against?"
Merrideth sighed... "It is blurry Majesty... I fear... I fear it could be a force most unexpected that guides our enemies united against us..."
"Very well... continue searching... hopefully we will be back before long... you know how to send word to us..."

He turned abruptly and headed for the stables... his heart heavy.

Merrideth and the Librarian looked at each other sadly... fearing the worst.

Avallyn was disapointed she would not be with Kelwyn in his group. She had hoped he wished her by his side. Now she leaned against the stable wall contemplating all she had learned. She had not come here to join in a prophecy but she seemed to have no choice. She wrapped her arms around herself feeling a strange sense of being alone though she knew these people were friends. Sighing she tilted her head back and gazed at the stars making a silent wish that no one got hurt on this journey.

Aeneva

The moon shone brightly and cast a silvery sheen on everything it touched. Aeneva was perched on a branch, hidden from view as she watched the camp. She closed her eyes as she remembered her flight from the ogre attack. She had not gone very far when a gentle voice spoke in her mind. The message was simple, “Go back.” She had wrestled with her thoughts for a long time before turning around. She would try one more time.

Aeneva opened her eyes and sighed. Well, she was here but what could she do? The camp was crawling with ogres and a dark elf. The dark creature had an aura of evilness and danger around it but worse of all it carried the scent of death with it. She had watched it emerge from a small tent. Its eyes gleamed with a light of anticipation and glee.

She turned her attention to the tent. Garrett must be in there. It was the only tent with four guards stationed around it. She dropped silently to the ground and quickly darted to hide behind a tree. She had no idea how to get in without being seen. She pressed herself against the tree and silently prayed for a miracle, an inspiration, anything.
