The Let's Help Each other Get Healthier Thread!!!

Ugh, I have been so lazy as usual, though I do usually make 2 huge walks a week which I am hoping to add to. I am amazed I have lost anything in the past weeks as I have been on a binge of nibbling and at least 500gr of chocolate a week on top of that. I measured myself today and was pleased I am at least proportional at 46-36-46. Now to get back to being dedicated and get back to where I was before F's time...and hope he doesn't demand I put it back on!!

HM - I LOVE that site. It includes grocery shopping under their excercise list. I wish they had grocery shopping with a hyperactive child, but most places don't even have an entry for grocery shopping.

On the other hand, it boils down to my normal problem - I make all my foods from scratch, so I have no idea how to imput them. *grr*

One ingredient at a time..and estimate if you have to. i make most things from scratch too and that's what i'm doing.

They don't have a spot for candy corn. *grr* I'm not sure I have this much patience.

Is it just me or is lit slow?

Anyway, I FINALLY finished. I had to use their generic 'candy' for the like 8 pieces of candy corn I ate. They're guestimating it at over 300 calories - I doubt it. But with that guestimation I'm at a little over 500 calories today. :nana: I'm a third of the way there!

Okay so I weighed in and am now officially now back on Program.
Sigh.
It wasn't too bad I guess. Only 1.4 up, but it's been creeping up steadily before that, so...
I'm going to reset my counter.
Before I had trouble because I wasn't exercising. Then I was exercising, but wasn't on Program. Now with the two together things should go swimmingly, I hope.
I still haven't had any fast food and am working on the white sugar thing. I'm also cutting back on white flour but not eliminating it yet.
I have to go work out.
Gracie, I went and checked, and some varieties of Nutribar only have 1 g of dietary fibre per bar. That shouldn't be too much, should it? The ones I take have 2g.
The chiropractor thinks I do have arthritis in my back.
And, I can see some differences in my body from working out! Just small, but they're definitely there.

i did pretty well today... had a large plate of salad before having one grilled cheese sandwich (camp food, ugh!) and some pickles.

i stopped drinking soda in january as one of my ways to get healthier (though i admit it wasnt becuase i wanted to, it was becuase A made me) and yesturday he let me have a few sips of orange soda as a reward for good behavior. i love orange soda and havnt had any in 7 months. it made me feel like i really pleased him to allow me that.

Candy corn have 6 calories per piece.

Way to go, y'all!

I'm not going to attempt weight loss per se right now, just try to adjust my diet to include more things that are "good for me" and fewer that aren't. Once I get my blood sugar settled down and not looking like a hyperactive rollercoaster by doing that, *then* I'll "officially" look at trying to lose some weight.

Graceanne, I've been using the site for the last two years. When I have a dish that I make regularly, I enter all of the ingredients and amounts and enter them on a "future date page." Then I record them, and enter the values (total calories, fat/carb/protein breakdown and nutrients divided by # of servings) into a custom food. Seems like it's a lot of work up front, but if you make it often, it will pay off.

HottieMama, I agree with you - the site forces me to be accountable.

Update: 40 minutes walking; good on my eating. It's nice to be able to report into this thread.

:) Neon

p.s., pm or im me if you decide to do it and have any questions - will be in and out tonight, on a trip for the next 5 days...

With neonflux's idea I was able to get a better idea of what I ate. Plus since I only ate like 8 candy corn, that dropped my numbers, too. With dinner, and everything, my calories are at 943. *grr* I do not think I can eat 1500 calories a day. *gag*

Plus I added in everything I did, today. I burned about 500 or so calories. No wonder I'm so freaken tired all the time. *sigh*

I just realized I had something on their twice, so now I'm at 782.

Their is no way in HELL I can eat enough to lose weight.

Well I ate a bit too much today, but much less than I would have off Program.
I'll figure out the damage later. It's not too bad.
I also did 25 extra minutes cardio.

What about an extra Slim fast or two? Could you manage that?

I dunno. I'm gonna try and get one down before bed tonight, I just don't know if I can drink two. I'm already feeling overly-full, and a little green around the gills. Not to mention I've got heartburn like you would NOT believe.

I mean, I ate half a stuffed bell pepper today and a whole portion of italian meat loaf. How much else am I suppose to eat?

Maybe you need to focus on eating calorie dense foods.
Just a thought.
Sorry it's going so hard for you.

 (But what's new?)

Ok. Have you heard of the fast of famine thing? The human body has a survival thing that happens when you starve yourself.

Back in the times when famines were routine, the human body learned to slow it's metabolism when their's little or no food. That way you survive longer.

The last time I got sick I lost 70 lbs in two weeks. Then I put it back on PLUS because of the prednisone.

When I don't get enough food my metabolism all but stops. I HAVE to keep my caloric intake at AT LEAST 1000 calories (and I do better at 1500) to lose weight. Otherwise my body puts everythign I eat to my hips. For instance when I was eating about 500 calories a day I was gaining about 4 to 5 lbs a month. Now that I'm getting up toward a thousand a day (most days) I'm loosing about 4 lbs a week. If I can get up to 1500 I will lose weight faster cause (a) I will have the energy to do more, and (b) my metabolism will speed up.

I just don't think I can eat that much.

Oh, and I decided to include what I ate in the middle of the night last night, so I'm at 850.

I know it has to be hard with all of the food intolerances due to the Crohns. You really need to be getting in at least around 1200 calories (which is the "magic" number the nutritionist's recommend you don't drop under - but it varies depending on age/body type). If you can do 6 small meals or basically eating every 3 hours (3 meals and 2-3 snacks) you should hit the minimum calories. Basically because you have been eating so few calories for so long, your metabolism has set itself at the low point. So you need to shock your metabolism awake basically. You can do what alot of folks do which is calorie cycling (zig zagging). It means one day you do higher end of the caloric range you have for yourself and follow it by a lower calorie deficit day. It keeps the metabolism guessing.

I don't know about you but I struggle with heartburn when I take in too much sugar type foods (particularly on an empty stomach).

Well 1200 is a lot easier to consider than 1500.

I can't eat 6 times a day, it gives me stomach pains, and I gotta lay down. Plus it exhausts me. I'm hoping maybe if I work myself up? Like go from two meals to three and three to four.

And the sugar thing is very possible. My heartburn showed up after I ate a cookie while M was getting her eyebrows waxed. And I hadn't eaten if a few hours at that point, so I was probably on 'empty'. I also get heartburn when I have some bread with honey in the middle of the night.

Graceanne, I am wondering about what Brioche mentioned - going for calorie dense foods. How does your body do with fat? Thinking more of the healthier types - olive oil, avocados, olives (for some reason, I am guessing that nuts are not on the menu as they are high in fiber). :rose: Neon
