Hope the meds are working and your throat is feeling better. :)

The meds are working for the pain, but they're making me nauseus. I stopped taking them for now. I have a script for anti-nausea medicine, but haven't filled it yet.

So my throat hurts, and I'm fucking freezing.

ok, so i may have overdone it. im not gonna go to the gym today becuase i hurt so badly from forcing myself through activity after activity four days in a row that i cant climb stairs, let alone go running. i need a few days to recoup.

You're better off taking a break between workouts (1 or 2 days) or try doing something different (cardio one day, weights the next). I try and get to the gym 2-3 times a week and I either do cardio, weights, pilates or pump class.

My first pump class I had sore thighs for 3 days  So I took a break for a couple of days to let things settle (just did some gentle stretching) and then went and did 10 mins treadmill, 10 mins cycle, 15 mins cross trainer and 10 mins rowing. I've lost another pound this week :)

I always read that you're supposed to work out one day, then do somethign gentle like walking the next. Then work out, then yoga or something. Work out. . . you get the idea.

Are you on antibiotics too? If so they could be making you feel sick as well :( Master Gil gets upset tummy from certain types, one was so bad He had to stop taking it after only two days.

Try taking the meds with food if you can, it often helps :rose:

yeah, i forget which antibiotic it is, though. I can't swallow anything bigger than a noodle. Not without pain, at least. K bought me some soup today. He made noodles for dinner. *yay*

Bummer

Sorry to hear it is still so bad. You might want to ask the doctor for a different antibiotic if things don't improve tomorrow. That should be helping by now.

Hope it gets better soon.

I'm glad you're taking a break. I was kinda starting to worry that you were over doing it.

the way i figured, the weekend would be my break. no fromal excersize sat or sunday. and that works out fine in theory. and it worked out fine before my dance class started and i was going to the gym three days a week. and wil probably work fine in a little bit once i getused to being so acive for five days. but since this is the first week ive had dance, im not quite ready to be going five days a week yet.

Another way you can work it is different kids of excercise. For instance aerobic excercise on M, W, and F, and weight training on T and Th. Then the weekend off.

See, the way it was explained to me, is that when building muscle you do something that's hard on your muscle. That tears down the muscle. Your body goes to repair it, and ends up building it a bit more - but you gotta give your body a day to do the repair and build up.

That's why my track coach told me in highschool, at least.

gym m/w/f, dance t/th.... i cant really adjust what we do in dance, but at the gym i run (which i can vary for how sore i am) do abs, which i have to do every day anyway, and lift weight for my arms which isnt covered in dance.

Yup. When you work out especially if you lift weights you are tearing the muscles thus the need to repair them but instead of your body just repairing them to the same size as they were it makes them bigger and stronger.

Depending on how hard/much you lift your body needs anywhere from 24hrs to 1 week to recover.

In other words you're already doing all that, and I'm doing the bossy mother thing. Sorry.

Maybe you should lower your goals for now. Give yourself a little more time to reach your goal, and make the goal a bit lower.

Either way, you're doing a great job sticking with your excercise program. You're gonna be buff and gorgeous soon. *hugs*

Speaking of sticking with things - no slimfast today. I have three canker sores, which means I've had too much sugar, so I'm not gonna have any slimfasts till these freaken canker sores go away. I ate ok, considering how swollen my throat is. I had a bowl of soup for lunch, a bowl of soup for dinner and some noodles. Oh, and an ICEE. I've decied that whoever invented ICEE's probably had strep a lot. Necessity is the mother of invention, and all that. I wish I had something that I could crush ice with, so I could just make myself crushed ice. Frankly, drinking an ICEE with three canker sores isn't the worlds brightest thing, but it reduced the swelling in my throat to the point that I almost had my voice back. :D

Just remember when you run to check your heart rate as you do it and stay within your target heart rate.

The way I look at it is you are working your heart like any other muscle. If you wanted bigger biceps you wouldn't pick a dumbbell too light(in this case too low of a heart rate) or a dumbbell too heavy(heart rate too high). You want one that will give you a good workout(target heart rate).

It's also good to vary your heart rate keeping it within your target heart rate as you run. Kind of like jog/sprint/run/jog/run/sprint.

What I have found works for canker sores and throat issues is gargling and rinsing with salt water.

I'm doing that anyway, for the strep.

What I've found works, other than cutting all sweets out of my diet, is green tea. Once I was at my grandma's and I had seven canker sores, so I wasn't eating. Grandma offered me some tea, and I agree. What I noticed was the tea was making my canker sores tingle, and then go numb. Frankly, I was sold with just the numb part - I drank a whole pot of that tea. The next morning, when I woke up, six of my canker sores were gone, and that one went the next day. :nana:

I've been pretty lax lately. I'm about to spend a week in a swim suit probably on my period too, so I'll be cursing myself frequently.

Well I ve been pretty good still drinking 6-8 16.9 bottles of water a day , eating less than 1600 calories split into 5 meals.... and Im still sitting at the weight I was last week.. UGH Better do something I am getting frustrated.

Hi folks!
First of all, thanks to the threadgoers. I'm in the process of finally shedding the 100 pounds of "college" weight that I built up over my 10 years of college, grad school, etc., and (cheezy as it sounds to a self-assured individual such as myself), it makes all the difference to see other people getting encouraged and talking about their issues.

For my part, my wife and I are both on Weight Watchers, and it's proving a good system for us. I'm almost at my first 25-pound goal, which will be celebrated with a shiny new tattoo.

Anyway, sorry for the brief hijacking. Just wanted to say hi and squirm into the flow of the conversation soon.

This is a great topic.. wish i had seen it 105 lbs ago :)

but my wife and i are dieting and working out 3 or 4 times a week, and both of us are down over 100 lbs from our recorded heaviest weights in approx 1yr.

we both still have a bit of a way to go... and can always use more encouragement and we're always willing to talk to others and help with what we know and have experienced as well *smiles*

yeah.. what he said..

Today I was looking at my driver's license photo from a year ago..and another from 2 years ago.. and couldnt believe the change..

if I can do it.. anyone can...

Time for my bi-weekly weigh in...

186...i believe that's one pound lost. UGH..just UGH...

My other issues have been getting a bit better though. i am eating a lot better/healthier and "retaining" what i do eat. It's hard, and i won't sit here and pretend that i am not struggling...but i am doing it.

How is everyone else doing?

my roomates and i decided that going to the gym mon, wed, and fri is a bit much so mon and wed are definites and friday is optional. usually ill be opting to go, but on days where my dance class and the gym combied gets too much it will be nice to be able to take a break for a day.

i spent the past few days at home for the jewish holidays (hence the no posting for a few days) and since i couldnt go to the gym i worked out in my basement by stretching, push ups, situps, and doing my dance combinations. after an hour of that i was sufficiently excersized. plus now i havnt forgetten everything i learned in dance.

This week I am being bad but I feel pretty decent. I'm eating things that I normally wouldn't have around. It's vacation after all. Things like whole milk rather than skim.

Ahhh.

OTOH, I'm getting a lot of incidental exercise which in turn keeps my hungry.

I have most of the year to be good.

I wanna be bad.

Bump....

Where oh Where is everyone?????

Sir W?
Gracie?
mis?
brioche?

And where in the hell is MsNeon????

Well, I've plateaued for the last 3 months...not a change other than minor fluctuations during the week of around 3 pounds (I gain them, I lose them). My hubby will soon be under my weight if I don't find something to get me out of this rut :( I simply cannot break the 160 mark :(
