The moon

She popped in from another dimension looking for something to do, on her dragon. :)
A complex being like a god simply "popping" into existence is hard to believe. More plausible is a Universe that pops into existence in a highly chaotic state, then slowly becomes more ordered through natural processes acting over billions of years.

You are missing the concept of multiverse. Parallel planes of existence. We could be just one in an infinite number of universes. :)

He doesn't exist and never has.
Strictly speaking, BSG, that's a positive claim and actually puts the burden of proof on you for it.

I actually fully agree with your claim, and it's based upon logical deduction.

But like any other claim, absolute certainty isn't a viable position. Not suggesting you're making the claim with absolute certainty; just clarifying the position in the way I suspect you meant it.

The Universe is way older than 5000 years. Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago and trilobites lived in Earth's ocean milions of year before the dinosaurs.
But wait a minute, I did the math after reading R. Crumb's illustrated version of the Book of Genesis [the King James text-only version was too boring].

I concluded that the Universe cannot be any older than 10,000 years. And, God likely rode around on a dinosaur to survey his early work on planet Earth.

8000 years later, God's only begotten son Jesus was crucified to as a way to compensate for Eve's original sin and to provide the justification for the Second Amendment in the U.S. Constitution.

If good guys had guns back then, Jesus could've avoided being crucified altogether. And He could've dealt with Eve's sin by shooting a virgin.

Thus, today, gun ownership is a God-given right.

Can I hear an Amen?

God sacrificed himself, to himself, pretending it was an necessary loophole towards forgiveness for a universal system he built, despite being an infinite authority, power and judge over that system.

With the original sin being something completely beyond the comprehension of the two humans in the garden, with a forbidden tree this god knowing and deliberately placed, knowing what would happen (like throwing a razor sharp knife into an infant's crib and then blaming the infant when it cuts itself).

The story is absurd on so many levels (only a couple reasons I went into), it's a marvel that anyone could take it remotely seriously. 😄

I'm an epistemological pragmatist. Concepts that provide no explanatory value can be dismissed out of hand.

The idea of a supreme being explains nothing, and creates more questions than it answers.

So, I can confidently state there is no God, just like I can confidently state there is no teapot orbiting the sun between Earth and Mars.

If someone come forth with evidence to the contrary, I'll hear them out, but until then I'll live my life as though both God and teapot are imaginary.

*nods* Fully agreed. Practically word for word how I see it as well.

Fortunately I was not expecting anyone to take my Second Amendment myth seriously, Mr. SuckToy!

Don't stand too close. Rorycoati is about to be hit by lightning. :)

I know. Still mourning are we? :)
No, not at all.

Brother Rory is doing fine. He has completed the Lord's work on the PB, satisfied to observe other posters still obsessing about him.

Can I get another Amen?

It makes more sense in the original Hebrew. God could have made Adam and Eve incapable of sin. He could have made the Garden of Eden without the tree of knowledge.

But he wanted humans to have free will and a moral conscience. He wanted them to understand that they themselves had the power to heal the world and make it just and fair.

He knew that we would fall and He knew that we would learn from it. It wasn’t a test. It was a lesson. Humanity never needed a savior to redeem us. We’ve always had the power to redeem ourselves.

Then the Christians wrote their fan-fic and got the story all twisted around.

All the stories about gods are written by humans, for humans. I'm currently basking in the glory of our greatness. We've got it all figured out.

Your version is just as nonsensical as any other version. The god character is proposed to be all powerful and all knowing. If he wanted humans with free will, moral conscience and understanding, he could just create them that way by default.

God didn’t want toys or puppets. He wanted moral actors who could decide right or wrong for themselves. Or that’s the lesson I choose to take from Genesis. If there is a God He wants us to take responsibility for ourselves.
