The moon

The moon actually rotates.

Search Assist

Yes, the Moon does rotate, but it rotates at the same rate that it orbits the Earth, which is why we always see the same side facing us. This phenomenon is known as synchronous rotation.

👍
Synchronous rotation is a side-effect of tidal locking.

The Moon is tidally locked to Earth. Physics explains how it happened. The moon was initially rotating when it was formed by a massive collision billions of years ago, but over time the Earth’s tug on the “near” side was stronger (because it was closer) and that drag slowed the rotation to a stop.
A massive collision. Sounds like a theory to me. Once upon a time there was a big bang and voilĂ ! Lol. :)

A structurally a hollow moon can be modeled as two 2000-mile diameter domes stuck together.

No material exists to build a dome that big, even with 1/6 earth gravity. Positing a hollow moon quickly leads you off into an engineering fantasyland.
Have you any idea how large the universe is? The moon isn't even a speck of dust in comparison. :)

The big bang is still the thing. The collision was the result.
I wouldn’t go that far. The Big Bang occurred over 8 billion years before our solar system coalesced from interstellar dust that had been forged in the first generation of stars

The Big Bang is cool to talk about but it has nothing to do with the formation of the moon.

The collision was a result of the big bang.
Whether you wanted to go that far or not is your own thing.

Lol. Nope.

Probably work up a flow chart and see what came first....it will help.

You're like a broken Nickleback album constantly skipping the lyrics from Something in Your Mouth:

You're so much cooler
When you never pull it out
Cause you look so much cuter
With something in your mouth

Lol. :)

Sure it does. There was no moon before the big bang. :)

Well, technically

The Big Bang was the start of everything. In that sense it is the cause of everything, but that’s not very useful for explaining more recent or local events.

Why did the dinosaurs go extinct? The Big Bang!
How did the moon form? The Big Bang!
Where do babies come from? The Big Bang!

Mindless reductionism is useless.

If you believe in the bang, then everything that now is, comes from it, especially if there was nothing before it. :)

The Big bang caused the collection and collision of materials that led to the creation of the planets and their satellites

You can walk down the different collisions over time if you want to get specific, but the reason everything was colliding and moving around was that.

In a context of the universe, it was more relatable to the moon forming then relating to babies being born and dinosaurs going extinct because it's a geological event rather than a biological event

In the context of the universe the Big Bang had exactly the same effect on the extinction of the dinosaurs and the birth of babies as it had on the formation of the moon.

Let’s talk about what the Big Bang was. It was not “everything colliding and moving around”. It was the creation and metric expansion of space-time. Initially the universe was filled with a cloud of sub-atomic particles —a plasma soup. Over billions of years they coalesced into atoms of light elements like hydrogen and helium. We can still see that plasma cloud behind the most distant stars —that’s the cosmic microwave background.

Over more billions of years the light atoms coalesced into enormous stars that began to shine from nuclear fusion. Over billions of more years the biggest original stars went supernova scattering heavier elements through the universe.

Our solar system formed about 5 billion years from a rotating cloud of this stardust.

During its formation the proto-earth collided with another proto-planet about the size of Mars. The result was the Earth-Moon system.

A little bit after that, the dinosaurs evolved and were killed by an asteroid. Soon after in cosmic terms, humans evolved, and babies started being born.

You left out the part where there were giants and dragons. :)

The Big bang geologically caused all of the collisions that created the planets and natural satellites. It had a more direct effect on that than it had on whether the dinosaurs could survive because of atmospheric changes caused by a meteor or on the biological evolution that led to babies being born.

Argue on if you need...it's a dumb argument.

Giants and dragons were early attempts to explain things like volcanoes and dinosaur fossils. Ancient humans weren’t stupid, they just didn’t have the benefit of modern frameworks like geology or archeology

A lot can happen in 4.54 billion years. :)

You just don’t understand what the Big Bang was. There was no solid matter for millions of years after the Big Bang.
