He has been touted for several years as the Republican's "expert" on all things nu-kew-lear. Obama tried buttering him up with promising nu-kew-lear related pork to his home state, but Kyl tipped his hand too early and smugly announced the treaty as DOA. Obama and the Democrats ran a high-risk, high-reward around Kyl....and they won.

The fact that an unprecedented (in the past two years) 11 Republicans crossed party lines to verify the treaty was a huge hit to Kyl's carefully cultivated reputation with the pundit class.

Now he's regarded as "damaged goods" by the Beltway columnists.

In any event, it's a tremendous foreign policy victory for America, and a tremendous loss for the Party-first, Country-second crowd (Graham, Kyl, McConnell, Vettebigot, AJ).
