The Official Authors' Hangout Halloween 2022 Contest Support Thread

But I doubt many people use hagiology.
It's a good word, and I'm sure ogg is the only person on Lit using it
Maybe we should have a writers challenge - Use the word hagiology correctly in a limerick

I tend to comment on every story I read. So if you have not seen a comment from me, then I have not gotten to it yet.

(Note - I can comment on the story via the comment box. However, for some reason ... yesterday, Lit started sending me a notification that they thought I was spamming whenever I tried to send a pvt message to an author on their story. I have no idea why, and am trying to get the issue resolved. I think perhaps there was 1 author that I tried to send 2 pvt messages in a row, as I wanted to tell the person one more thing about their story ...perhaps a double pvt to them made the Lit message thingy think I was sending spam?)
Thank you so much DarkRaven13. You were more than kind with your comments against my story.

Next step is to get the 25 votes needed to qualify (currently 23 and I hope a couple of those will get wiped in the sweep). Still time I guess, but I'm happy so far with the reception.

You're welcome. I liked reading it. I won't say too much about it here ... because I don't want to give away anything. (That is also partly why I send pvt messages ... so I can talk about things in the story that would not give parts of it away to future readers.)

A whole bunch of new stories loaded last night. Must have been a lot of weekend submissions. Up to around 100 stories now.

I think that's great. I know I need to get to a few more stories read from those on here as well that just loaded!

Does Lit have odd contests? I think there is a forum that tosses out writing contests too?

I'm waiting for one that says something like:

- Write an erotic story about a pirate who meets Katniss Everdeen
- Incorporate a scene where a Pepsi can is rolling down the stairs
- No time travel is allowed, however elevators or escalators are viable transport devices
- I like trees, so there needs to be talking weeping willow tree

I think I would suck at making up writing contest.

There’s an “authors challenge” thread.

There's a sticky at the top of this forum that lists the Author Organised Challenges, but you need Laurel's blessing for those.
I guess there's no reason you couldn't start a "Just for shits and giggles" challenge here where people just post a link in the thread. Unfortunately, Katniss can't take part as I believe she was 16 at the time of the reaping...

Oh ... I need to modify my post! Though in reality, I need to perhaps slow my reading ...and start writing ...

I want to sponsor an author's challenge based on the HP Lovecraft formula
1-pick a relative who vanished or recently died
2-which living relative will be narrating the tale
3-Which book in the Cthulhu mythos is referenced? My choice would be Unaussprechlichen Kulten
4
Which of the elder gods are involved?
5-how does your character meet his end?

That's the HPL write by numbers method.

That's what I'm talkin' bout

I've probably read a couple back in high school, but I can't say I really remember them. I tended more towards the Isaac Asimov Scifi type stories.

There seem to be enough Lovecraft fans here to do something interesting along the lines of Chloe's Micky Spillane challenge.

Edit - Just thinking. If the "Amorous Goods" challenge doesn't get a lot of entries, maybe do alternate years around this time?

6. Amorphous, Madness, Cyclopean, Gibbering: use at least one of these words (Or a form the word) in each paragraph
7. Someone must faint. Often.
8. Any cat must have a very offensive name. Never mind. Don’t go there. No cats. Unless it’s a cat that isn’t really a cat any more, no longer even of this world, it’s mould-ridden, foetid form an abhorrent travesty on the feline shape. And nameless.

For those who haven’t read HP Lovecraft but are considering it: do so, soon, but don’t read a bunch of his stories in a row. Like a lot of us, he can get very repetitive in both plot and word choice. Though his repetitive word choices are largely unique to him.
