I have a mate who has spent 25 years working out who financed the civilian development of Oz from the penal colony, and where those people got their money . . . much of it came from Jamaica and the slave trade . . . some came from the Russian trade.

I've always enjoyed history, and became quite absorbed in it while spending three years doing genealogy research on my family. Extensive reading on the American Civil War, the Methodist-Episcopal ministry in Michigan (one of my Irish ancestors was a traveling minister... a circuit rider), The history of the two counties in Michigan that I maintain websites for at a free genealogy co-op on the net, and a myriad of reading about the history of specific localities in England where the families were from. So, yes, I'm an official history addict. Of course, I love American history too.

Do you have "The History Channel" on cable TV over there?

I also have every National Geographic Magazine since 1962 in my library. I still read them... not straight history, but combined... oh heck, you know what this magazine is.

Are you serious... they don't teach Oz history in schools? I can't fathom that at all. What a waste of young minds that could evolve into historical writers of the future....
