The Who am I game

Sergei Rachmaninov ?

I'm happy to see someone is paying attention to this thread...as I have clearly failed.

And thank you Chauderlos, for the Royal bump.

Unfortunately, whywouldi, wrong answer. But welcome to the game!

So I have a few clues that might help...

In the 1930's, he experimented with works that dealt with social issues of that period.

Composed a well known American opera. Although opera might not be considered his genre.

One of the poor monkeys that were sent into outer space?

Nope. She was much better off. Her experiment was still considered unethical.

I'd say it's Gua, the chimp the Kelloggs used in their experiment studying language aqcuisition. They brought up Gua in their own family providing her the same stimuli as their own son, as they wanted to see if Gua would learn to speak. Gua didn't learn to speak, but instead her non-humanlike behavior endangered Donald's (if I remember the name correctly) normal development as a child and they had to give up the experiment.
What was noticed during the experiment, thou, was that baby chimps have far more developed social skills than human children. I find that endlessly fascinating.

Yes, I have studied biolinguistics. :)

Oh, I have to add... Gua did learn to recognize some 100 words/phrases if my memory serves me right. But the chimps and other primates cannot learn to speak, as they can't control their speech organs with the precision needed for humanlike speech.

Your memory is really good :).

Congrats. :rose:

It was an awesome experiment. Gua learned a lot of human behaviour. She gave a kiss to ask for forgiveness when she had made a mistake. She ate with a spoon and she understood the human language better than Donald did.

Winthrop Kellogg is described as quite cold and reserved, though. He seemed to see his child mainly as a control subject for his research. He wrote: “The differences between the skulls can be audibly detected by tapping them with the bowl of a spoon or with some similar object. The sound made by Donald’s head is somewhat in the nature of a dull thud, while that obtained from Gua’s is harsher, like the crack of a mallet upon a wooden croquet or bowling ball.”

*sigh* My riddle languished for days...weeks, even.

Now four riddles in one day?!!

I think I will retire to the Royal Chambers for a massage...
