Oh, you caught that? Cool. The Woolworth store in Linden, NJ really is on N. Wood and the Motel 6 really is on Rt 18 in New Brunswick. Never been to either of them but I googled the addresses

Still trying to polish the Pulitzer piece I never finished off last year.

With all the variations on RVC's that come from different categories and warp the contests, couldn't we just have one cat, 'contest' for the scrabble. It would put non-erotic on the same basis as incest.

Just a thought.

There's a meanness running in the voting this year that wasn't present in last year's winter contest. I have three more stories prepared, but don't know if I'll bother to post them to this site.

The reason for categories is for the benefit of readers. Some people don't like to read about non-consent or BDSM or incest or Gay or Lesbian, so these readers are, in effect, warned about the content of such stories. And, of course, other readers especially like to read romances or other warm fuzzy stories, and they are benefited too. I post in all categories, but I will never submit an L/W story in a contest, unless I am making a deliberate attempt for the Last Place (tm) prize.

This story struck a very personal chord with me. Several years ago I spent every day for 11 weeks going to see my beloved wife in intensive care. I was there the night she died and believe me you hit the emotions perfectly. In fact ,I was in tears by the time I finished it. Thank you.

Are we talking calender winter here? Or does "seasonal winter", to coin a term, count too? You know... let us say that dark and cold time after harvest but before planting.

In other words, does Thanksgiving count?

Yes, thanks. It's been raining pretty steadily for two days. But I live at the top of a ridge (overlooking Monticello) and we're in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, so all that water is running down into Richmond.

I think a Thanksgiving piece is just fine. In fact, when I saw the story title (I think it was yours--I haven't gone back to check), I thought it was a fresh approach to the contest.

IMHO it would be early seasonal winter. After all, the contest ends before the beginning of calendar winter. That being the case, I see nothing wrong with a story about Thanksgiving Day, or even Veteran's Day.

There's usually a fair smattering of Thanksgiving and New Years stories in every Winter contest. Even though it's never been officially mentioned, it's always been unofficially included. The standard has pretty much always been Thanksgiving, Christmas ( & all the others that overlap ) and New Years.

The last time I checked, you couldn't reach the story list from the home page. You can from the story index page, but not from the home page.
