I'll have to go back and read the discussion.
I've been hearing a lot lately that 'cunt' has a friendly banter meaning in the UK and some other English language places. In the states where I grew up it has solely one exact meaning: a crude term for female genitals. So using it is almost always derogatory, with about the only exception being the 'heightened roleplay during sex / foreplay'. You'd really never use it in a friendly way with someone you were not sexually active with.
Of course we're now in the era where the US is not only no longer a cultural trend setter for the world, true for some decades now, but also culturally and morally repugnant to most of the world. So I don't expect anyone to take linguistic influence from us anymore.
But I do wonder if 'cunt' just has a completely different meaning in the rest of the world, like is it a reference to microwave popcorn or something?
