I'm really, really, really liking this photo:

This is a first released photo, and I'm thinking so far, so good.

Like many comics fans, I'm pretty much a purist when it comes to the on-screen portrayal of the heroes/villains. Marvel has taken heed to this in their movie renditions of character's costumes (thanks Stan!). Electra, DareDevil, Spider-Man, Hulk, the Fantastic Four, etc. have all made a pretty faithful effort to stay true to the original costume designs (with the exception of the X-Men series, but I totally understand Hugh Jackman's refusal to wear yellow spandex). A few additions here and there, such as the "overlayed" webbing on Spider-Man's outfit really enhanced the costume I feel. If you look at the posts below the photo of Thor in the article, there are many who are unhappy about the look of the outfit. Personally, I feel the character we see in the movie should be as close as possible to the character we see in the comics.

I wish the DC movies had done the same. I'm still pretty sore about what they did to Kal-El's uniform (it's NOT a costume!!!!) in Superman Returns. The Bat suit from Begins and The Dark Knight was way, way awesome, but I would have actually preferred to see the dark gray/black armor from the books. I can only hope they don't seriously damage Green Lantern's uniform in the upcoming Ryan Reynolds movie. Please don't mess up any more of my favorite characters.

(IF they ever do a Martian Manhunter flick.....)
