Universal Background Check for purchasing a gun

Universal Background Checks - for or against?

how about each (civilian, i suppose) person having the 'right' to own the maximum of 1 rifle and 1 hand gun, with a limited capacity of, say, 6 rounds? 10 would be more than enough for the sorts of situations given as examples of why a person wants to carry a gun. that's not taking away the right to bear arms. who needs more than one of each?

I have quite a few rifles. Most of which I inhereted from my father. I have a .22, I have a 30-30 for deer hunting, a 30-06 which is an old Army rifle, and an old relic rifle. I have a few shotguns, all different caliber. Do you really have a problem with me having these. I can only shoot one at a time.

Fewer people will have access to assault weapons and more effort can go to going after the criminals. Lame excuses because you just don't care if people are dying. With luck you'll be the one in the wrong place next time. Darwinism in action.

I'd be the one to drag your sorry ass out of harm's way after you pissed yourself and fainted.

You think bans and regulations save lives? Lives you really care about? Fewer people should have access to fentanyl and heroin, with all your laws. Tell it to the mothers of all the drug ODs.

Current projections by the CDC place last year’s loss of life due to drug overdose well above that of 2016 – a year in which overdose deaths also outnumbered those by guns and cars.

In 2016, there were approximately:

40,000 motor vehicle-related deaths
39,000 people firearm-related deaths
64,000 people drug overdose-related deaths

Question for the criminals don't care crowd.... then why have laws for anything? Why have laws against murder, rape, theft? Why have regulations for driving or insurance? Why have any laws or regulations at all if we are using the logic "criminals don't care"?

The left and the Democrats want to confiscate all guns from private hands in America, but typically they lie about their totalitarian motives. They are domestic enemies of law abiding Americans.

Proposing yet ANOTHER LAW to prohibit what is already prohibited is stupid. Laws don't exist to stop people from committing a crime. Laws exist to PUNISH people afterward.

You want to punish everyone before they break the law.

Adrina, your consummate totalitarian thinker, is at war with the law abiding gun owner because they might commit a crime in the future, after all for the most part they are traditional thinking American males.

So why register vehicles or have insurance?

You tried to answer while being a fuckhead. Just answer the question and drop the attitude.

If criminals ignore laws, why have any?

Yaay, more agencies and taxes for a false sense of security!!

BND is a fucking pussy.

Laws exist to make rational people pause and carefully consider the consequences before taking the action they have in mind. Those specific consequences stop many people from proceeding.

Does the government registration of all vehicles in the United States, the licensing and testing of all drivers, the government supervised production of all vehicles, government demanded safety features mandated for all vehicles in the United States, the government supervision of all roads in the United States, the government enforcement of all vehicular activity in the United states, prevent some 40,000 Americans to be killed on the friggin' highways of the country?:rolleyes:

The insane however doesn't two shits about the law.

It's like she's trying to get to some point she doesn't have the minerals to come out and make directly.

Common trait among the left.

To have a uniform way of punishing them after they break said laws.

Then why have them at all?

This is the question. If you can't answer, a simple "I don't know" will suffice.

(One could also ask, how high that number would be without those laws and regulations as an FYI.)

What laws would you write then that would stop all these shootings??

Obviously, to hold responsible INDIVIDUALS who break laws. Duh.

1. Registration allows the police to trace the vehicle after it's stolen.

2. Insurance is a civil protection in the case of an accident so that the vehicle owner/driver can afford the liability/costs of the damages caused by the accident. (here's an interesting thing I bet you never considered - if YOU never "cause" the accident, do you really "need" insurance to cover damages that weren't caused by YOU?)

3. No one is trying to ban cars so talking about a ban on guns while trying to equate them to car registration is ridiculous.

4. People drive cars illegally all the time. No license, registration, insurance, DUI, recklessly, negligently, and so on and on and on. What has that got to do with all the others who drive safely and sanely?

The ones that bans all guns.

Just like the one that bans all cars because of a few drivers who don't register them or have insurance. Oh wait...

That's fine.

But, what about the irrational ones? You know, the ones who take a gun and go shoot up a Walmart.

Or are you saying they're "rational" too?

Oh I figure as much I just wonder if she'll come out and actually say it. :D

She won't. She never does. All she'll do is flip her hair and call us morons or something similar and then claim we aren't worth debating. Sixteen posts later she'll finally quit "not debating" with us.

40,000 dead is far more atrocious than the number of people killed by mass shooters but you don't hear the left calling for a ban on cars and they know that further government regulatory action will be no more effective than the existing regulation vis a vis highway deaths.

We already have plenty of gun laws, though.

For instance: a convicted felon gets caught with a gun, they go to jail. No one is against that.
